  • How do you tell if a sun conure is a female or male?

  • @MeAndMyBirdRio you realy cant only by DNA testing

  • @daman91196 I know but do you know because I don't want to spend to much money on doctors that tell the gender?

  • @MeAndMyBirdRio ya you realy cant tell without it

  • @daman91196 Do you know any other way??

  • @MeAndMyBirdRio THERE IS NOT!!!! lol

  • @daman91196 So you don't know

    well okay bye

  • I love that suction cup perch!! Did tou make it yourself?

  • @StephHuang nope, got it from petco/petsmart (i dont remember which one)! it's really handy - I stick it on any smooth surface like mirrors, car windows, even tv screens :)

  • Hi,

If you have some time, would you mind messaging me? We recently came across a Sun Conure that is two years old, and we were thinking about adopting it. We have African Greys, but I really would like to ask someone who has experience with this type of bird some questions. Yours is really smart...<3

    Thanks!

  • @jessandog

I also have a tame sun conure if I can help.

  • @wvualumni08 I need to know how noisy a sun can be, I live in an apartment and i do not want my neigboors to get mad at me, I know that everything depends on the birds personality but anyways, are they really noise during day long, or it is more for few minuts and they stop? Please tell me!

  • @mari82441

Well, in the case of me and my sun conure (Truman) we have it pretty lucky in our apartment. Truman screams mostly in the morning, or late evening, and usually when I come into the door. Most any other time he does not scream, or so my neighbors are not complaining if he is while I'm away. My conure is an independent type of personality, whith means he likes to be left alone most of the time. Screaming is no real issue with him and I hope that helps.

  • @wvualumni08 Really? He screams? Our new sun conure Osito is really calm. She hasn't made that much noise. Right now she is sitting on my shoulder walking all over me :)

  • @mari82441

Oh, and to get him to stop screaming, I usually let him out of the cage and he stops almost instantly.

  • what did u feed her in your fingers

  • Awesome

  • Wow awesome

  • Can you guys help me? I have a sun conure that I got yesterday and he already will get on my shoulder and pull at my hair and such, but he doesn't trust my hands at all. He doesn't like sitting on my finger and he will 'bite' my finger if I annoy him. He was hand fed and is still a young conure. How can I get him to trust my hand?

  • @marcusvwvuspa dont worry i had 1 for the first day and i would bite my finger if i tried to take it off. heres what to do: when its on your shoulder, find away t take himoff without your hands, (i use the couch) then pick him up with your finger, praise him, then put your other finger so he can step up to tat one, then praise, repeat this process and he will gain your trust:) check out my videos if you dont belive im an expert

  • That is the coolest thing! I have one but she doesn't know that trick. thanks for the footage. Cute!

  • Hi, how did you go about training sonnie the trick ie; Step by step holding the ball and dropping it. I have just bought a 8months old Sun conure (Sunny) and i would like to teach it tricks. It seems to be quiet clever it has taken 1 day to gain its trust as it was very nippy, now i can scratch under it's wings, pat it's back ect.

  • GEO3535, if your bird isn't hand fed, it's not going to be like these birds you see.

But that doesn't mean you can't train him.

In your NORMAL voice, talk to him

    coach with him

tell him "I just want to be friends"

slower movements will help as well

do not scream or go OW when bitten

    they like the reaction

    so they'll bite more.

  • what r u feedin the bird as a treat.... i also hav a sun conure n i nyd to teach it tricks

  • imk going to have a sun conure in a few years when my grandma passes away because its hers, and cleo (the sun conure) doesnt do any tricks XD but she can talk a little. she can say hello sweetheart, sweatpea and prettybird

  • @grantika445 lol wating for ur gandmother to diy lol lol lol lol hahahah so funny

  • @grantika445 Waiting for your grandmother to die...thats about as epic as it gets xD

  • oh thats so cute! its like a baby saying it's first word!!!!!!!

  • smart bird!

  • How did u train urs. I can't get mine to do it

  • My little Raven is 17 yrs old and I got her when she was 2 mos old. she is the sweetest thing but she can burst your eardrums. make sure you feed them a varied diet and commit to one on one time every day. Not just for a few months but for the rest of your lives, these little sweethearts live for a long time. My sweet saucy girl is #1, and please clip wings, it does not hurt and will save you from heart ache.

  • I have a Green Cheeked conure it was 600$ at petsmart. I fell in love with it and my mom called my brothers to come and see. His name is Paco. He's really sweet and I enjoy being around him. [=

  • th5%

  • So cute. :) I got a Sun Conure yesterday from Petsmart (I told my mom it was only $99 and the cage was onsale for $21 because I knew she wouldn't let me get her if I told her she was really $699 and the cage was $188). She's only two months old and her wings are pre clipped (can't wait for them to grow back) and she doesn't have any former training so

  • You should have gone to a breeder first. Retail stores sell them for way over than what a breeder will sell you one for.

    I'm getting one for 200$

  • I know but I don't have a breeder anywhere near me and she was just so adorable. I have been to a few stores with them at lower prices, but you can't put a price on quality.

  • @mikeperetz That's how I felt when I saw a Jenday conure at Petsmart, but I didn't have the $450 to spend right there xD

So then I found out about Sun Conures and found a breeder nearby. :3

  • very pretty bird

  • Thank you very much for all the info you posted in your comments. I just got a sun conure and converted my computer desk into a play pen. Your trick ideas and tips are very helpful.

  • oh how cute!

  • hey i have a green cheek wat costs more

  • YAYYYYYY Holly - very cute

  • Yay Holly! Conures rock!

  • how do you train it to do that?

  • nice

  • Hey...what do you feed your sun conure after it preforms tricks?

  • Just read all the comments, thanks for telling how you trained her.

  • Comment removed

  • our sun conure is totally in love with my mom and little brother but is a total b*tch to everyone else!

that's ok though I still spoil him and give him treats even though he hates me.

  • Very well done!

  • thanks!

  • plz put a vidio on to teach me how to teach my bird that trick

  • are her wings cliped???

  • yes, they are

  • can you cuddle and touch her wings without her biting u?

  • yep, except when I do something she doesn't particularly like, such as putting her in her cage when she doesn't feel like it yet :)

  • i've had my conure for almost two years do you think he has my trust by now or is he always going to bite me? i also think that by touching hes wings i hart him i also think thats one of the reasons. how long have you had you conure?

  • if he doesn't trust you and you've had him for 2 years already, you might want to check if you're doing anything wrong. I've had mine for 3 years, but have had her trust since I got her. :)

  • i forgot to tell you that i got him from a pet store that had way to many animals and i dont think they took him out of his cage to often,i also REMEMBER they had Macaw and they kept on sprating it with water. do you think i will ever get his full trust???

  • @GEO3535 hi ok look i have ring necks but is u want to tame a bird u need to were some glaves for saffty ok lol and than hold it but not very tite and than put it upside down and than opend ur hand than it will flip on to ur hand and look at u like wth wts going on lol than u put ur hand neks to her face then it will hop up on ur hand than keep doing that and dount use glave all the time and u better cut its winggs ok so it wont fly good luke sory for my poor English lol

  • @hazeb2195 bad news my sun conure flew away!

  • @GEO3535 what those that mean im tryin to get one bird

  • i have a sun conure named Dhalia

  • excellent! super cute :)

and good on you for giving her a treat that's not only a favorite of hers but also healthy, unlike some people who give their birds inappropriate foods *grr*

  • wow that funny! ^j^

  • good job! what kind of treat did u reward her with? im trying to figure out my green cheek's favorite food so i can reward him for his good doings =]

  • thanks! I just give her sunflower seeds cut up into little pieces so that she can consume them easily :) sunflower seeds are a usual favorite as well as spray millet,as I have observed.

  • devonkid41290, I think. Most sun conures are 9-12 inches long from the tip of the head to the tip of the tail.

  • excellent Holly, two pointer

  • Dude that's cool! My quaker has that perch, and loves those balls!

  • how big are sun conures??

  • i think from head to the tail feather they dont get bigger than 9 or 10 inches.

    but i could be wrong.

  • Im getting a Green cheeked conure in a couple weeks

and I heard that they should not have a (sunflower) seed based diet and that they should be fed a pelleted diet. I was wondering if thats true.

I was also hoping you could give me some tips on raising a conure.

oh and also do they need a nesting box to sleep in or are they just fine without

because my grandmother's bird wont sleep unless she has her nesting box.

  • yup, it wouldn't be advisable to leave put them on a seed diet as it is highly fattening without any nutrients at all. That's why I only use it for training purposes, and I even cut the seed into tiny pieces. My conure prefers to sleep in a birdie hut... it's kind of a hanging tent where they can crawl in and snuggle for the night. Don't let them spend too much time in their cage, they can be real noisy and nippy if you do. Goodluck :)

  • Thank you.

I actually got a senegal parrot 5 days ago.

he cant really use his right foot because hes missin some toes the petshop said he was born without it. so i was wondering if it would be a problem when i get my green-cheeked conure. they'll be sharing a large bird cage. and what brand do you feed your bird?

  • One problem that i saw in your message that they will be sharing the same cage. I would not reccomend that. If they are and need to share cages i would reccomend u introduce them slowly like both of their cages next to each other, if you dont want a injured bird. Your conure probally will not mind his "foot problem". I feed my bird a thing called nutriberries and dried fruit, fresh veggies, fresh fruit, and types of seed. a optianal food is nuts, but i would highley reccomend these still. GoodLuck!

  • haha, my Sun Conure Tookie Tookie sleeps with me most of the time :P He cuddles right up to my face or chest and won't sleep anywhere else! Of course, when he's too busy nibbling on me and giving me kisses, and I really want to sleep, his next favorite thing to cuddle with is my boyfriend's Quaker Zoomie lol - not even kidding, they're in love!

  • that's just adorable :)

  • lol so cute...

  • I have 5 birds and i know what birds are supposed to have. Their diet can included seeds and pellets but you dont want that to be it's only diet. I give my birds seed and a thing called nutriberries in her cage. i also giver her dried fruit and fresh fruits and vegtables. Many birds are different, so you can try a nesting box or with her cage you can make a place that is like a nesting box. Try anything out with your bird and remember to always give your bird positive reinforcement. Have fun!!!!

  • can you put some step by step vids so i can teach my Quacker parakeet some more tricks

    thanks

    birdgurl123

  • The first time I gave her the ball, she flew away! :) I just had her hold the ball and eventually she'd drop it after holding it for some time, and then i would catch the ball with the cup. Then I'd give her a treat. After doing that for awhile, I moved the cup a little farther away and if she dropped the ball and it didn't go inside the cup, I'd give the ball back to her without a treat. She eventually associated the sound of the ball hitting the cup as the "trick" she had to do to get a treat:)

  • oh thanks

  • I see you wamt to train your bird. Barbra Heindrick is a awesome bird trainer... you should look her up!

  • Sweet

  • what is the treat you give her? We have been trying to find something small that we can use to train our Sun, but he's a bit picky.

  • I just break a sunflower seed into 2 or even 3 pieces :)

  • Congratulations, you are such a great teacher for your Sun.

  • thanks :)
