I bought this as my first and to this day, only boom box. It still works fine. It is plenty loud, as I never turn it up over 2 out of 6 on the volume slider. I like the manual EQ. Just remember to take the batteries out if storing for a while so you don't ruin it.
@theddj well you need a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack on a splitter wire to a pair of 'rca' phono jacks and plug the little end into your cd player and the other '2' jacks into the back of this and then - like I said make this deck think it's playing a cassette without a cassette in it! OK ? this unit is NOT really made for this function. I think that Maganovx added this feature without much future thought as to how these would be desired to be used with them dinkyipid thingy's. Cassette's 4EVER
OMG, Soooo many memories growing up in the 80's with this...I miss you D8300! Time to hit up eBay....
It brought Hip-Hop to me via the College radio stations which I taped on school nights at three in the morning just to get something fresh(which was like every day back then). I had to sit in a strange position with my arm raised acting as an antenna, let's see the kids of today do that with their ipods!
Aaaand it brought Hip-Hop to anyone within 100ft as well! Thanks for the vid!
I love how your D8443 is peaking out behind the D8300. Finding a D8443 on ebay for $50 with only one dial needing fixed is one of my proudest finds, I'm now watching a D8300. Magnavox had a goood thing going, because when you get a boombox, it's reall all about the speakers, and they do a unique presentation!
I did see your older video of you frantically running through your house...I envy all the storage space you have! :^) I have to admit I am attached to the D8443...it has a classic '80s look and sound. I like the Bose table radios, but the earlier ones with all the buttons on the unit attracted me most...now everything is relegated to the remote control to save expense. I've never heard a Bose system. I'll have to someday.
This was great. The D8300 has a really unique shape (have never seen one before). It's EQ sliders appear to actually be switches? And the D8443...now THAT'S one of my all-time favorites. The two I've tested were very differently aligned on MW band...one was quite hot, the other only did well with local AM stations. I want to buy one, but many on eBay are showing up with dead cassette decks. I'm looking forward to your video of the 8443!
The 8443 dont waste your time getting one its simply underpowered, Looks great but not enough oomph to drive the speaker's the way that you would think that this should sound like. Supposedly 3 amp's in this. If you want big sound big bass get something else, not this one. D8300 I dont like too well as there is not much stereo seperation in it as it is basically a angled panel with as much surface area of speakers tossed in. The EQ's are Sliders not switch's This one Will Get LOUD not bassy.
Actually the D8443 is excellent for me, I'm not a high-volume listener...just room-filling audio is fine for me. I've spent some hours with the 8443, as my uncle gave one to my brother. I can tune around for hours on this boombox. The two things stopping me now are not enough room for one, and the issue of possible cassette deck failure. I like the metal speaker grille, and the silver controls, as well as the extensive frequency scale...oh and the gradual stereo fade-in is extremely cool!
Room filling hmmm Get the Bose AW1 that's deceivingly roomfilling but not as flashy as the Magnavox ... Now I do have another Magnavox that has the stereo fade-in control that works so much better than this d8443 does imho another time I'll get it out and make a video of it ... did you see the ... well somebody left a comment about yet another OLD video that I had up here so tonight I rushed through ( with a much better video camera ) another update of ALL that I have here :-) more up to date!
