the solo could be a bit more careful with her gliding as it tends to make her go momentarily off-pitch then back again. with all due humility, though, the choir does the song with a lot more character and feeling than the ajc choir version(i'm from the ajc choir, and btw the sopranos and altos went flat for the first few bars). on the whole though, i think the choir did a good job. i kinda like the actions too =p
When I was 13 years old, i joined the St. Scholastica's High School Glee Club. That same year I learned to sing the soprano 1 part. You cannot imagine the gallons of sweat I broke out during practice and everytime we girls sang it in front of an audience. Thank goodness there were 3 of us soprano 1 girls, haha! Nevertheless, this song is amazing!
This one's one of the finest arrangements by a Filipino Musical genius, the late Elmo Makil. Prof Makil is a Tinguian scion from the Tinguian-speaking town of Galimuyod, Ilocos Sur. In this song, he pays tribute to the galantry and bravery of the Tinguian warriors who are celebrating their victory from a tribal war.
The Tinguian people are found in upland communities of La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Abra. They trace their roots from the early Kankanaeys from the Cordillera mountains who migrated to the lowlands during the pre-Hispanic era. Gabriela Silang, tracing her roots from the mountains of Pidigan, Abra, is a classic example of a brave Tiguian warrior princess who lead her people against the tyrannical Spaniards.
i actually miss this song hope our choir would sing this again... i still remember ate marinel singing the obligato part... and kay kuya michael ng upcc happy birthday nga pala... sorry di kita nabati ng personal... good luck upcc...
it is the conductor's interpretation. meron bang batas na ang pagdadasal ay lagi lang taimtim? kaya nga art yan, each to his own. kanya-kanyang style lang yan. i've heard more terrible choir singing and performances here in youtube.
the descant is a mother praying and meehma was right, she sounds boastful. i think it would be better if she sang it a little melodramatic, more of a background chant.
its actually a victory song for the itneg ribe up north... the slow part... still have to research on that... what i know is that almost all of the tribes up north (kalinga, igorot, bendean, ifugao) always have that chant in almost every tribal chants during their ragragsakan ( feast or festival or celebration)
e song is a war chant rite? issit a kind of ritual where they they do e dance around a fire? e slow part wat does it mean? my fren told me it is actually a mother saying a prayer for the safety of her child

KANYA-KANYANG DYNAMICS LANG YAN. hehe.
Maybe the piece itself isn't really that appealing to many. It's a victory CHANT after all. ^_^
