  • why not a bldc or a brush motor, more power to weight and they are quieter

  • @fairyheli2 Because bldc or brushed motors have permanent magnets that under heavy acceleration (high current) the opposite magnetic field will de-magnetize the permanent magnets little by little lowering their efficiency in steps until the motors will have to be replaced. The AC Induction motor is very resilient and it will last very long time and also survive high current peaks without problems.

  • @TrajkovskiNet is this a high frequency inverter drive?

  • @fairyheli2 We have tested high frequency inverter drives and found that MOSFET losses due to high frequency are greater than the vibration losses of the AC induction motor, so we developed a low frequency inverter driver which is more efficient but requires high quality motor bearings because of increased vibrations.

  • @TrajkovskiNet what frequencies does this use typically? I want to build an induction motor propulsion unit for a bicycle, and maybe a go kart as well. I am quite new to electronics and electric vehicles

  • lol reverse

  • What kind of range can you do with the 12Ah's ?

I have an electric scooter myself, although it is a factory model :)

It has 38Ah, a 2kw motor, and I can do about 30-40 kms on that - weighs a lot though - 138 kg in total

    /K

  • @klas2k - With 12Ah Lead-Acids now we have only 10-15km range.

  • @TrajkovskiNet : Ok, but then you have a lower weight at least.

Still pretty good for a home built electroscooter :D

    /K

  • Play "Daisy"

  • Could have more resolution with the drive frequency which would make it sound much more cool!

    Sounds like a class 323

  • @linuxbot3000 - After some tests the frequency was chosen to balance between switching losses of the transistors and the motor mechanical (vibration) losses. At the end, the sound of the scooter become almost exact depiction of the sci-fi movies :)

  • Well done - is there a web-page on the build?

  • @CorticalVortex - The only page with some description is the EValbum page. Also, my friend filmed some stages of the build and uploaded them to YouTube, it was fun! I have updated the video description to contain the needed links since no links are allowed in the comments.

  • Very bad English accent.

  • @kefsound Well, it's more of a Slavic accent, and they speak perfectly good English, but thanks for playing.

    Nice work guys!

  • Musical bike nice.

  • Soon there will be more batteries and greater voltage!

  • 6kw hahah :D

  • @deloran19

the 6kw is the peak, the real power of the motor is 2kw

  • I'm glad that I'm the first who will comment this thing. If you watch the science fiction movies how future cars sound.. well.. they ware right :)

Nice background though, it gives great contrast between high and low tech :)

    Great work guys!
