In all seriousness, while Vaelastrasz required a high amount of skill and coordination, he also required insane gear. There's no way you could have beat him without it, just based off of the DPS, healing and tanking requirements of the time. If Vaelastrasz was beaten by skill and skill then he wouldn't have been such a guild killing boss.

The reason everything depends on gearscores and achievements now, is because epics are handed to players. In vanilla, having full epic gear in a raid was a godsend. Now you can't even get into a raid if you don't have top gear. It's not like the raids even require absolute perfection, gear wise.

1. I never said that LK 25 HC is easy.
2. Just for all of you that can remember when in vanilla ppl where fighting for a place in 40 man raid. You had to prove your self to get a spot back then. Now is hard to get 25 or even 10 decent players.
3. Yes I have a guild. I would not be able to down LK and Halion 25 HC with pug. I heard it could be done (before cata) on some servers. Well not on mine.

I ran zul Aman yesterday and it was epic fun. My guild is doing black wing lair tonite. Once u hit 80 it's fun to go back and do lower raids. IN MY OPINION bc was better. Even tho wotlk didn't Totaly screw the game over like some say.
Ah yes...the pre-tbc crowd. Gotta love it when people start crying about how much it has changed since then. I'm pre-tbc, but I seem to be the only one I know who loves the new content and isn't afraid of change. Makes stuff new and exciting imo. Nilla-heads make me think of my grandmother =]
It's just I seem to be the only one of my WoW generation who enjoys seeing new content and actually appreciates what Blizzard is trying to do with the game. Some things I may be "meh" about, but there's no point in commenting on the fail of new features that haven't been released yet :P Very "wait-and-see", y'know?
@thatguy4christ hey i hated how tough it was to get gear in vanilla wow and BC and i loathed the long grinds pvp was the best part of the game which was just sad WOTLK especially after TOC release was at reasonable difficulty and i would hate for it to go back to the impossible levels like that of vanilla and BC

Making raids more accessible is a good thing, and while you often have players in pickup groups who don't know what they're doing, I've heard stories of fights so difficult that guilds broke up due to not being able to get past them, and people who aren't able to go on the raids they need to get the equipment they need. (Even with skill, gear is necessary for raids).
@Mortiphasm It was true that some bosses (even some trash) broke up guilds in classic. As a raider I crave that kind of difficulty though. Perhaps its elitist, but I remember the days when just the graphic of the gear you wore was a testament to your skill as a raider. Now there's things like gearscore and achievements which show little about the raider's actual skill.

Yes, that is called evolving and changing. While I agree with the farming part to an extent, that also happened pre-WOTLK as well, or are you seriously saying that farming for resistance gear is not farming junk? Honestly?
I find pvp more balanced than it has ever been in the game. WOTLK also made raiding more accessible, which was a wise decision since it opened that part of game to more people. Ulduar is, in my opinion, one of the best raids in the game for example.
Personally, I'm not doing Icecrown for the gear, but only to down Lich King. Gear, however, is a prerequisite to down him. Most of my guildies do it for the same reason.
All mmorpgs have always been gear focused. That does not exclude Warcraft. Outgearing your opponents gives you an advantage but it isn't an automatic win. Please, if we're talking about vanilla PVP take off your rose tinted nostalgia goggles. Vanilla pvp wasn't balanced at all.
Funny how you are linking hard mode to how hard the game is. When my guild couldn't down a hardmode they simply ran the instances on all normal bosses till theyoutgeared the fight.
If all fights would be hard to begin with you had no other choice than too down the boss with the gear you had.
But hard mode is the current end game content. Don't get me wrong, I would personally like an instance that instead of having ridiculous hardmodes it would be wtf!difficult in itself. However, what you said was clearly bullshit ("It took me 4 days to clear new content now"). I simply used the achivement to call your BS out. Clearing the current content would mean you had downed LK hardmodes which Paragon described as a "ruthless and unforgiving fight". Have you even attempted it?

Damn pre-tbc was so mutch better than BC or Wotlk. :( I didn't ding 60, instead I dinged 45 with my warlock before tbc was released. I remember those days when World PvP was a fun part of the game.

That is not because the fights are gear dependable (even though I'm not saying some of them are), but simply because of the availability of GS and achievements that make it possible for the community to track your progress, albeit in a very bad way. For example, Lich King is all about execution and no matter how great gear and buff you have you can't brute force that encounter.

@xsmopsis Blackwing Lair wasn't that difficult for the most part, except for Razorgore; if you don't know how to destroy the eggs, you can't win, since if you kill him without destroying the eggs, he will kill the entire raid instantly and respawn. Vaelastrasz was supposedly much harder when he first came out, but with better gear, he's fairly easy, and so is even Nefarian. You still need to dispell Chromaggus' debuffs to survive, though.
@Mortiphasm I think BWL highlighted certain classes for certain bosses. Razorgore and Vael highlighted the tanks. I remember teaching guilds the tank rotation for Vael time and time again to the point where I knew it by heart and probably to this day could do the rotation. Chromaggus was a bit of a cockblock raid damage wise but it became managable. Nef when we first experienced him, your success depended on the constructs you got. If one week you got green and blue you felt like giving up
@xellgarath It depends on the fight. Some fights, like Patchwerk, are mainly gear checks, but many of those need at least basic understanding of the fight in order to get past them. Others, like Sindragosa, require you to understand the mechanics of the fight, but better gear can allow for more leeway, and a certain standard is needed to triumph.
@xellgarath It's easier to gear for fights, so some people go in without having gone into raids very much, and thus don't know for the fights. However, this also meant that otherwise competent raiders would often have difficulty getting into runs for the gear they needed, and thus be excluded from higher-end raids.

i don't know why most of the WoW players choose horde for their fraction when you get in mind most of them are - cows living in a pasture!

The other once orcs big greeny monsters which even aren't from this world, trolls big Cannibals!! the most looking good race on the side of hte horde are the blood elfs which i think their place ain't on the side of the horde! Roll Ally if you like some civilization!!
Draenei are from the same planet as the orcs, Draenor. Gnomes are only with the alliance because they had to flee from low level troggs. Dwarves are respectable, I like them. Humans, same as dwarves. Night Elves, I never thought of them as a race to choose sides at all.
Civilization is not necessarily the act of being non-barbaric ya know. And the orcs have changed their ways, and fought the corruption from the Demon's Chalice.
Gnomes are nothing more then footballs with arms, dwarves are pretty cool (BEER!) Nothing against Nelf's, Humans are just too goody goody guys and Draenei sound cool.

actually gnomes were always with the alliance, they had their own city that's all, Draenei are NOT from Draenor but from Argus ( check your lore )

Velen and he's followers are from Argus, but fled from it, when Kil'Jaeden offered them power in exchange for their loyalty and joining the Burning Legion. They fled to Draenor. Then when Draenor exploded becoming Outland, they came to Azeroth.

tell that to jaina and uther.....and thrall for starters...both factions are at war because of 1. fear and differences from BOTH sides (look at garrosh hellscream nowadays), and 2. the burning legion and scourge both enjoy playing them out vs eachother. It seems so. I find it funny that so many people have their nostalgia goggles on and argue points that were even weaker during vanilla. Not to mention the fact that most of the whiners have not cleared the current existing content. They just whine for the sake of whining. Pretty sad, is it not?

@AceyBlade ...Nillaheads piss me off. -.- I didn't start playing the game until BC, anyway. It was off and on at a friend's house up until BC came out. I went and bought it for his account, and we both played. From then on, I was hooked.
Of course, I realized I was just mooching off of him...so I turned to private servers.
But you have to admit::::no private server can stack up against retail. It's so much more fun, and it gets better with every patch.

That is not because the fights are gear dependable (even though I'm not saying some of them are), but simply because of the availability of GS and achievements that make it possible for the community to track your progress, albeit in a very bad way. For example, Lich King is all about execution and no matter how great gear and buff you have you can't brute force that encounter.

@xellgarath lol. ya you definitely hit the nail on the head. its so funny how wotlk raiders feel pro for doing their lil achievements when molten core was harder than ICC. i still find it baffling how idiots could wipe in wotlk when it was so damned easy compared to vanilla and bc (pre nerf patch). imba as it was it was definitely the best experience especially in regard to the lore. i miss world pvp!

@xsmopsis Blackwing Lair wasn't that difficult for the most part, except for Razorgore; if you don't know how to destroy the eggs, you can't win, since if you kill him without destroying the eggs, he will kill the entire raid instantly and respawn. Vaelastrasz was supposedly much harder when he first came out, but with better gear, he's fairly easy, and so is even Nefarian. You still need to dispell Chromaggus' debuffs to survive, though.

@Mortiphasm I think BWL highlighted certain classes for certain bosses. Razorgore and Vael highlighted the tanks. I remember teaching guilds the tank rotation for Vael time and time again to the point where I knew it by heart and probably to this day could do the rotation. Chromaggus was a bit of a cockblock raid damage wise but it became managable. Nef when we first experienced him, your success depended on the constructs you got. If one week you got green and blue you felt like giving up

@xellgarath It depends on the fight. Some fights, like Patchwerk, are mainly gear checks, but many of those need at least basic understanding of the fight in order to get past them. Others, like Sindragosa, require you to understand the mechanics of the fight, but better gear can allow for more leeway, and a certain standard is needed to triumph.

@xellgarath It's easier to gear for fights, so some people go in without having gone into raids very much, and thus don't know for the fights. However, this also meant that otherwise competent raiders would often have difficulty getting into runs for the gear they needed, and thus be excluded from higher-end raids.

i don't know why most of the WoW players choose horde for their fraction when you get in mind most of them are - cows living in a pasture!

The other once orcs big greeny monsters which even aren't from this world, trolls big Cannibals!! the most looking good race on the side of hte horde are the blood elfs which i think their place ain't on the side of the horde! Draenei are from the same planet as the orcs, Draenor. Gnomes are only with the alliance because they had to flee from low level troggs. Dwarves are respectable, I like them. Humans, same as dwarves. Night Elves, I never thought of them as a race to choose sides at all.
Civilization is not necessarily the act of being non-barbaric ya know. And the orcs have changed their ways, and fought the corruption from the Demon's Chalice.

actually gnomes were always with the alliance, they had their own city that's all, Draenei are NOT from Draenor but from Argus ( check your lore )

Velen and he's followers are from Argus, but fled from it, when Kil'Jaeden offered them power in exchange for their loyalty and joining the Burning Legion. They fled to Draenor. Then when Draenor exploded becoming Outland, they came to Azeroth.

right ok let me sum this up for you , 1 paladin can idd solo onixya , however neffy has alot more Hp and some deeper raid tactics. The above statement CAN and cannot be true , Gear/skill would play a major issue. as messing up tactics in BWL wont get u past the 1st room.
