  • Woah woah woah woah. I thought basic training was only 8 weeks not 4 years!

  • @Taima826 Its an academy not basic, basic is if you want to become enlisted, they graduate as officers.

  • All these orders being barked out by higher ranking, and not one "Simon says" was called?? So much for leadership!!

  • 00:43 his sideburns are out of regs?!

  • chevrons > brass

  • im 12 i have to wait a few more years until i go to the air force

  • And now they're seniors....see? It was all worth it :D

  • any body who want to join the academy should concider the BOY SCOUTS for some leadership training

    try to make eagle

  • @MrLaxman08 BOY SCOUTS??? You do know the Aux. of the Air Force, Civil Air Patrol is ment for that. I am in it and you actually wear the Blues Uniform and BDU. You do drill and all that it is ment to prepare you for the Air Force or other military.

  • @USAFcrazy13 boy scouts isn't that bad of a program. it teaches youth to become leaders no matter how close they are to those they are leading. and, its not only good for the usafa, but for all colleges. i do admit, the spatz metal does seem to be a bit more honoring, but by the time you get the spatz metal, your almost too old to get into the usafa

  • @RaczcarProductions I know cadets that got the Spaatz Awrad when they were 16 that isn't too old for the USAFA,. Civil Air Patrol is good for colleges too. We are Military based. I went to a training week for CAP and I was on a Military Base. We did the training the Military was doing. I was in a Combat Readiness Training Center. I hung a around Air Force Master Sergeants. We ate what they did, We shot the guns they shoot, we did the same drill they do.

  • @TheNextG3nGaming I went to the CAP to join, but it was like a really, really, really gay boy scouts in some dilapidated basement of a ghetto police station. I hope that doesn't reflect the whole system, lol. And I'd have to shave and cut my hair, and that ain't happening lol.

  • this is nothing like reception at BCT, but then again these cadets are being trained by other cadets and not NCOs who have combat deployments under their belts

  • @iflickuoff NCOs oversee the training.

  • So I'm a freahman in highschool and wanting to go into the airforce.is there any thing I could so this early to help me get into the academy? Thanks

  • @zman251 Take as many honors and AP classes as you can, join clubs and sport teams, and do alot of volunteering. The three things that they're going to look at is your academics, your physical abilities, and your leadrship potentials. Leadership is the most important, so make sure you are involve with any activites that promotes you to become a leader, but dont forget about your grades and physical abiities. This is a very competitive school, it's a good thing that you're thinking about it now.

  • The Academy prefers to take only the high achievers from high school, but having read eDodo, I don't regret being denied the opportunity. Enlisting in the Air Force was a much better decision. Otherwise, ROTC would have been the way to go. The Zoo is a fucked-up place.

  • @Agent1W I wouldn't go that far...it's different for sure, but it has produced some extremely quality people and airmen. There's no denying that.

  • anyone here know the minumum required GPA to get into the AF??

  • @XDMWeaponCollector The average GPA for the people who get into the Air Force Academy was a 3.8

  • @cooljen93 so basically all As and 1 B??

  • @XDMWeaponCollector Keep those grades up like that as high as you can, also do some extracuricular activities like holding office for student government, ROTC, sports, those will all help you.

  • Wow so you need a recomendation in order to get into any military flight program?

  • @dafame09 Nah dude you need a reccommendation (spelling?) to be appointed to a service academy. There are certain things that you have to do in order to be pilot eligible but you can do ROTC and still be a pilot. Statistically over 75% of a graduating class at a service academy is pilot qualified to it doesn't hurt to attend one.

  • the academy is your best option. god watch over you

  • USAFA ACADEMY CO SPRINGS CO USA

  • All people hoping to go to the academy i must warn you that its best not to commit to anything. For example, don't say I'm gonna be a fighter pilot becasue those are the people who usually dont get accepted or wash out.Its absolutely fine to have a goal to go to the academy but dont commit yourself to anything because things do change. I know several people who just went into the academy and said im gonna do the best i can and they ended up being a C-130 pilot and recieving the rank of major.

  • @cornhusker20 You say that, like being a c-130 pilot and a Major in the USAF is nothing big....... lol

  • it varies theirs air force rotc that helps u get in or get a 4 yr and get in that way. i choose enlisted first and workin on my 4 yr and crossover only because im getting more experience deploying and earning my rank and itll help me with ots easily

  • @LazieShadow Hope you know that as of right now OTS is closed because the AF is so over manned. I got out last summer through a commissioning program.... I would do that ebfore you commit yourself to going to OTS.

  • I am so going!

  • Comment removed

  • 22% of them are minorities? LOL Air Farce is proud of that.

Too easy anyway. They have it nice. Best Western "Training".

  • Kinda glad i didnt make it in there...already have a year enlisted and in a few after i get my degree i will go OTC so i can have some enlisted experiance...it helps

  • @guitarherolover and then he woulda had your ass kicked out of the USAFA before you even got there. Your exactlythe person they DONT want so you wouldn't make it anyways.

  • duuuude i wulda told that bus guy to suck ma dikkkk

  • oh, and @GunsOfThePhoenix you don't need to, but they pay for everything and its one of the best colleges there is. btw @bigpimp1976 i forgot to add that, your junior and senior year are the most important years to get your shit together. I believe from what ive read you start the whole application process atc around 2nd semester of junior year? your going to need letters of recomendation, etc.

  • @sieve5 me too, @bigpimp1976, get the best grades you can, take the most advanced classes you can (they will take the difficulty of the class into account with your GPA), be physically fit, participate in sports and other activities, volunteer. and dont get into trouble.

  • Man i'd be happy if i could get into any of the military academies.

USAFA isn't my top priority, because i'm not as open to flight positions given i wear glasses, but i'd be pretty damn happy if i made it. I'm working harder to get into West Point. naturally i'm more Army than AF because of Army JROTC and my general environment, but regardless of what people say about the USAFA as being pussy, they're really not.

haters gonna hate, getting into an Academy is an honor, regardless of which one.

  • @Sharod101 FINALLY!!! Someone who shows some respect to the cadets.

  • If you want to go the the USAFA, Join Civil Air Patrol, and go to Encampment. It will be a good experience, and you will be a lot better off than the guy just walking in off the street. you will already have the basic idea of what you are about to go through. Plus, if you get your mitchell award (C/2ndLt) you will go in as an E-3 right off the bat if you enlist. and if you have any idea of the difference in pay grade going in as an E-3, than you know it's worth it.

  • I am Civil Air Patrol Cadet Master Sergeant Penman. My main goal is to get into this Academy. It's going to be tough, it's going to be hard, but anyone who strives at what they do is going to make it.

  • @CAPFANCADET I am U.S. Air Force Cadet Col. Stafford, i too would like to join this academy, whats your class. maybe we will attend together.

  • @CAPFANCADET what grade are you in? when will you apply to the academy????

  • @15academy I am in 8th grade, and looking forward to going to the Academy. Do you have any suggestions that would help? I hear Civil Air Patrol is a big bonus, and looks good on the resume.

  • @dagreatone3765

but at the end of the day, your job is to support "those turds" whether you like them or not. Atleast a few years down the road when they outrank you and fly combat sorties. I say that because i'm one of those "turds."

  • when i get out of high school im going straight on that bus

  • OMG , OMG , OMG , OMG , Sccarryyyy !

  • dam his sister hot haha

  • i'm gonna go there if it's the last thing i do.

  • same

  • Do you have to go to this academy or any other in order to be a U.S. airforce pilot?Im only 13 and I just want to accomplish my dream of flying a f-22 raptor. I can't wait till I'll be able to fly! What requirements do you need in order to pass this academy? God blees anyone who helps me.

  • You have 3 options to be a pilot: go to the Air Force Academy and graduate, thereby becoming a 2nd lieutenant in the air force, become a part of Air Force ROTC in college, or go to Officer Candidate School after college.

Check out the academy website (academyadmissions) for more information. I also want to fly, and I hope you get in.

  • @VelosiT AM CAPTAIN am taking more course to learn more of F22

  • @bigpimp1976 as long as you have it in your head that thats what you want to accomplish nobody is going to stop you from accomplishing your dream kid....my dream is to join the Marines and be a bloodcrazed jarhead fighting down in the desserts and im getting closer everyday to doing that....maybe one day im going to be calling in for airsupport and your going to be one of the guys dropping bombs on our hostiles ...the sky is the limit kid

  • @poxflaza LOL literally...

  • @bigpimp1976 5 GCE'S A-C 2 ALEVELS [i dno wt u call them in american -soorryy]

  • @bigpimp1976 just saying, by the time you get old enough for the airforce, don't you think they might have upgraded to better jets? and to answer your question, no you do not need to go to the academy to be an airforce pilot.

  • @bigpimp1976 to be honest, you probably won't fly the F-22, because there isn't a high demand for fighter pilots. However, no you dont have to attend the Air Force academy, in order to become a pilot. to attend you need probably a 3.2GPA to get in, but preferably as close to 4.0GPA as you can get. To graduate you just need to pass and make it through.

  • @bigpimp1976 if you wanna fly, contact my page, i'll tell you exactly what you need to do.

to answer your question, no, anyone with a 4 year degree can do it. but you have to have a perfect resume and physical to get in, and even at that, you have to prove your perfect. I have a friend whos father flew Tomcats, and he was lucky to be in the top 1% of his class, because they were the only ones who made it.

i cant fly fighters but that don't mean i can't help. i'm also more army than AF at heart

  • @bigpimp1976 No, you just have to become an officer, by going to college and then going to officer training school.

You should have good grades, and do community service.

  • @bigpimp1976 You can go to the U.S. Air Force academy or go to AFROTC to become an officer because only officers can fly. But there are a small percentage of pilots in the Air Force so that means, it's going to be tough, and they'll only pick the best out of the best. In my AFROTC detachment, we got two pilot candidates who earned their commission this year.

  • @bigpimp1976 You don't need to go through the academy to become a pilot but, if you do you have a 90% chance of becoming one.

  • @bigpimp1976 keep aiming for it mate. your one of many

  • @bigpimp1976 in order to be a pilot you have to be an officer, and one way you can do that is go through the academy, OCS if you enlist, and ROTC. Get good grades, and staying out trouble are also helpful, among other things, dont get too tall ( you may not fit). F-16 pilot down the street from me where i used to live was "Wedge" and he was 6'1. I am trying myself to get into the Coast Guard Academy to become a Jayhawk or Dolphin pilot

  • @bigpimp1976 It's not a requirement to come to the Academy, but it is a damn fine commissioning source. I am currently a cadet. I'll tell you, it is tough, but very much worth it in the end.

  • @terr547 I have a question, im a freshman in High school, planning on going here, is everyday like waking up in the mroning like early and doing Basic training or what? My dad is in the AF, security forces, and i wanna keep it runnin in my family

  • @J0HNS0N21 No, every day is not like that. Freshman year here at the Academy is very difficult though in that it is something similar. You have to get up and call minutes for the other three classes, and you have to follow several very stringent standards. Though, I must warn you, it is VERY hard here all four years-- the academics more than anything else. Make sure you are preparing yourself with that. Make sure you are preparing yourself physically too.

  • @terr547 Well i play football and basketball so im phiscally fit but wanted to know how it was. IM cosidering going to the academy.

  • @bigpimp1976 in order to become a USAF pilot you have to go to a 4 year college and get a degree in Science. Then you "can" be a Commissioned Officer and then if you are lucky you might get to go to flight school. If you do go to this school stay in school and keep your grades perfect. A good organization that can help you get in is the Civil Air Patrol. Join that.

  • @bigpimp1976 you have to go through 4 years of college and get a degree in engineering or something else that i can't remember

  • @wakeup748 does not have to be engineering, can be any degree.

  • @bigpimp1976 no, you dont have to go to the academy to be a pilot. you just have to get commissioned as an officer, which you will need a college degree. Then you have to get accepted as a pilot, which few are.

  • @bigpimp1976 HEY, iM 13 ALSO AND iVE ALWAYS DREAM OF FLYING IN THE AIRFORCE I WANT TO FLY A F35 JS...GOD BLESS TO YOU AND I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK

  • @bigpimp1976 I want to fly the F-22. From what I know, you just have to be a officer, but your chances are slightly raised if you are from the acadmey.

  • @bigpimp1976 Same here, just do a Google search for the requirements, also check the Air Force website and the Academy website.

  • @bigpimp1976 well seeing as how the f22 is discontinued, by the time you're old enough to be a pilot, assuming you dont fail which you most likely will, there will be different planes you will be assigned to

  • @bigpimp1976 first you need to have a gpa average of 3.85 or higher to get in here and you have to accept the fact that you are required to serve in the airforce and that if you want to "accomplish my dream of flying a f-22 raptor" you will probably end up killing people. Many people marvel at the idea of flying a fighter jet but conveniently forget that they are designed to kill.

  • @bigpimp1976 You can get your bachelors and go to OTS. Officer Training School. It's 12 weeks long and you come out 2nd Lt. It's basically an officer's boot camp.

  • @bigpimp1976

u dont have to but it definetly helps and there are seaveral things

you can do like getting a good GPA in highschool and my recomendation get high school credits NOW in middle school. Also get involved in sports and organizations like civil air patrol or other airforce cadet programs

  • @bigpimp1976 Ok I'm 16. I don't know alot of the Air Force ROTC. I'm just a Civil Air Patrol Cadet. But I can tell you this, If you want to join this academy first of all you need a 4 year degree in the university, you need a high school graduation diploma and need to be in the best shape of yourr life. To pass this training you must do 62 push ups in 1 minute (60 secs) Hope this helps, God bless you

  • @JuelzZantana Um, no. You're going to the Academy to OBTAIN your 4 year degree. The rest is correct.

  • @bigpimp1976 To get into the academy, you need a recommendation from either your state Senator, the Vice President, or the President. Once you get that, you need to meet the physical standards (can be found online). If you do get in, it's a regular 4-year college with special military classes. Otherwise, you can attend a 4-year college of your choice and apply of OTS (Officer Training School) after you successfully obtain your BA.

  • @trinityrenee The Air Force Academy is offering a Pre-Junior Program. It just raises your chances on making into the USAFA.

  • @trinityrenee I also heard that you need to be active in your school/community? is that right?

  • @snipingace34 yep JROTC

  • @soujahwolves But I'm not in a jrotc. I'm in a regular high school. lol sophmore

  • @snipingace34 This is true. This is how they decide if you get into USAFA:

    GPA and SAT= 80%

    Sports/Fitness=20%

    Community involvement/clubs/extracurricular=20%

So, you don't technically have to be involved, but it would majorly hurt you if you weren't.

  • @trinityrenee is easier to get accepted if you in the JROTC

  • @trinityrenee Yeah, I know this is ten months late, but to those of you reading this: You can also receive a recommendation from the representative (House of Representatives) of your district. This is probably your best bet due to the fact that there is less competition.

  • @morganm5201 I wasn't able to get a recommendation from my Congressman. I had hoped to attend the USAF Academy and major in Harmonic Convergence and Astrology. Apparently the Academy does not appreciate students finding oneness with The Universe. Hopefully, I'll find a University that will offer me a Yoga Scholarship.

  • hey, Can you still apply for USAFA after HS? Please help me to answer this question...

  • @bigpimp1976 you have to exell in school, (excellent grades, extracirriculer activities like calculua, you have to be well rounded, and physically fit, sorry for spelling im in a rush

  • @bigpimp1976 your best bet is to get into the academy but any college with rotc techinically will take you to become an officer. you have to be an officer to fly. do your best know so that you can hopefully get into the air force academy

  • @bigpimp1976 You need balls made out of titanium, you have to be in good shape, you need to be damned smart, and be ready for a living hell in the first parts of it. Good luck in accomplishing your dream. I'd love to fly an F-22, but I don't think I'd have the same drive to do it as you. Maybe you can give me a ride if they make a 2-seater, lol.

  • @bigpimp1976

you dont need to go to the academy to fly a raptor

you just need to be good at flying

  • @bigpimp1976 you dont have to, you can do ROTC in college, but you have a much better chance of getting a pilot slot going through the Academy

  • @bigpimp1976 man i am also 13 and i have been doing some research to be a pilot you have to go to the air force academy or any of there air force colleges and to get in you have to join the JROTC to get recomened and when you first get accepted you havhe to take this 6 week physical training course. then you in and they teach you how to fly it is very fun hope to see you there

  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with going the ROTC route, enlisted to officer, or staying enlisted. Enlisted folks are the backbone of the military!

Not everyone can serve in the same capacity. Everyone is not cutout for military service -- the discipline, comittment, service before self. It's not about a paycheck.

  • The Pay Is Only Better Than The Civilian Counterpart before you hit E-6 in most fields and some even before that.

  • Wow, there's a lot of bad information here and generalizations. If you work hard (enlisted or officers, academy grad or non-academy grad) you can be successful in the AF. If you are a whiner and make excuses, you won't be. It's pretty simple.

Some academy grads are great, some are full of cr*p, waste their opportunity & after a few years get out. Some determine quickly they are NOT career military material. They were only in it for the pilot's license or education.

  • im glad im in Air Force ROTC- lol don't know if i could put up with that 24/7

  • The F-22 was discontinued, you'll probably fly some version of the F-15 or a less costly version of the F-22. That's why it was discontinued, to expensive and unnecessary. Maybe you'll fly some secret alien crap.

  • I also heard that the government was thinking of upgrading the F-35 as well...I don't know if that's true but sounds good.

  • Don't really know what you're talking about....but nearly every piece of equipment in the military is constantly undergoing improvments, changes and upgrades, even the ones that aren't operational yet, such as the F-35

  • well i mean that i heard they were upgrading them and thinking of replacing some other planes with it...don't know if that's true but that's what i heard.

  • @kel30j should be the F15 16 f22

  • 2012 is the end of the world, thats a waste of time

  • fox 21 news? Isnt that here in colorado springs?

  • yes

  • ACADEMY=OMEGA FUN tough at times but FUN

  • can you tell me more please? I'm applying this year, would like to know as much as possible!

  • future leaders and generals? lolz

we already have enough clowns running the show

  • Im a member of the class of 2013, and boy do i remember that day. Inprocessing was intense.

  • fox news sucks lol i am an academy hopeful

  • me too! are you applying for fall of 2010?

  • no im going into high school next year so i think ill be (hopefully) going in in 2014 i think. Good luck there!

  • what do you mean those days dont last?

  • trust me man. i KNOW i am going to get in.

  • they are good pilots because they have to land on a moving runway on the ocean, but that doesnt make them the best.

  • ill be one of those guys one day. your looking at the comment of a future F-22 pilot.

  • my mom was an F-22 pilot but trust me those days don't last long.

  • Have fun IF you get there, your cadre will beat the cockiness out of you...I can promise that. And on top of that your going to be an F-22 pilot? Good luck, seriously.

  • two more years until the academy. class of '15 baby!!

    C/Col Alex Hirtle

    CA-944 Group Commander.

  • Have you seen any new cadets bc i new this one guy with a last name of Kraynak, he was in my Civil Air Patrol Squadron.

  • how do you know you're going to get in?

  • so basically to get in I need to be some type of minority a women or have the highest GPA possible? lol nice so much for moral fiber.

  • That's the news for you!

  • That's not true at all. The majority of people here are normal white males. If you were successful in high school you have a fair shot at getting in.

  • @spitphire2

Don't forget if you are a son or daughter of a career military personnel. Those guys are well sought for by the academies and military schools alike.

  • yup me too! its been my dream

  • my one goal in life is to wind up on that bus

  • same here!

  • same here

  • Me too hopefully!

  • @sieve5 4 days

  • @sieve5 I hope you do.

  • @sieve5 not hard...

  • Jimmy's sister is hot!

  • she needs new eyebrows.

  • I could agree that your basic was a little more degrading but you realize that after you basic you actually are treated as somewhat of a human being. The AFA cadets have to put up with four years of the Academy's shit.

  • Hmm....not quite as harrowing as the TIs at Lackland for a first day. I guess it's cause cadets can pretty much just get up and leave no questions asked?

  • my dad was in the academy and when there yelling it doesent seem that bad because im probably used to it, im a boy scout and almost an eagle scout

  • yeah you're probably not used to it. unless you've been through basic a few times, it still kinda gets to you. if nothing else, it's really annoying. and being a boyscout, even an eagle scout, don't mean diddly squat. though it has gotten noticeably easier throughout the years... arguably.

  • Ya I agree, if you are in shape and not a shitbird it will not be hard, but it is the bullshit you have to put up with that screws with people.

  • what do u mean write rotation

  • He means it ain't gonna happen more than likely. IF(huge if) you become a pilot at all, you will probably be flying a heavy, not a "cool" 22. Sorry to bust the bubble, but you need to get your head out of the clouds.

  • i don't need to hear crap from you so shut up!!!!!!!!!!

  • wish me luck i wanna join and i dropped outta highschool

  • Lol... I WILL CHUCK GALLONS of luck at you son! Not in my Air Force!

  • .......

  • my dad went to VMI. You are bitches. JK, seriously. My friend goes to citadel. good place. in a bad way

  • my dad went to vmi to and im going to the air force to be a f-22 raptor pilot cool

  • You realize that you probably won't be an f22 pilot, right, we only have 135 in the air force and the competition is unbelievable. Also you have to get in the right rotation.

  • look my dad taught cadets for so many years so i probaly know more than you ok dude u dont need to mess up a 11 year olds dream ok ok good are you appart of the air force or something cuz dude its my dream to go to colorado springs academy but i can go to one in germany or something ok wow your cool hm ya wow

  • srry dude i was mad at the time its just i really want to be a pilot so bad dude please give me some advice and im sorry about that last message

  • Well you most likely will need to go to the academy and do extremely well, and then be at the top of your class in flight school (they get the first picks). The problem is is that this is very hard to do. Also because of the end of the cold war and budget cuts it is just hard to get fighter slots. With only 135 F22's there is not much chance of getting one of them. Also you need to graduate when there is some open slots (old pilots retiring, or transferring).
