@jazuji volcanically? as far as we can tell, no, it's not. but we don't know where its methane is coming from...so either we're wrong, or there's bacteria there. or, there's some chemical process going on which we haven't discovered is even possible at all, yet. but astronomers agree that mars volcanically "died" millions of years ago...so unless you're talking about some kind of gaia concept on mars, then you're not exactly well-briefed...
Mars is about half the size of Earth, and only about 1/10th its weight . Mars also has seasons like Earth, but it's a whole lot colder there even during the summer. Mars also has volcanoes and mountains like Earth, but Mars' are much larger. In fact, Mars is home to the biggest mountain in the entire solar sytem. Olympus Mons stands more than 16 miles (26 km) high created via tectonic plates movement and plates dont move unless a liquid core is present there lies the density difference also.
@jazuji Dude Olympus Mons was created millions of years ago when there was tectonic plate movement, and a magnetosphere. Then the core hardened and the magnetic field disappeared which is why there is no volcanism. It does have seasons but it barely even has any atmosphere, but volcanic activity was what he was referring to when he said it was dead. It doesn't recycle materials the way Earth does
@The3rdPlateau And now we come to a conclusion that there was volcanic activity once in the past of Mars and you have found yourself in an endless circle of scientific speculation : if there are atoms there is movement and if a stellar body has movement it has geological activity, that means there is a temperature variation combined with pressure changes depending on depth and pockets so it is far more likely that mars still has a lot of activity than to say there is none.
Also there is an atmosphere and there are pictures of it so what else is there, oh yeah the magnetosphere!! Lol that is my favorite couse you see any object in space has it but it depends on the composition of the planet and as i see it Mars magnetosphere is there too but weaker than Earths.
@The3rdPlateau Also in addition to the fact that every fraking stellar body in our and prolly anz solar system or in empty space has a lot of sunlight coming to it a lack of atmosphere would suggest a larger dose of heat hitting the surface of Mars especially if you look how close it is to the sun and lets say Jupiter that has a vast range of temperatures.
@The3rdPlateau The outermost layers are exposed to the near absolute zero temperatures of space, while the core of the planet has high temperatures because of the intense pressure of the entire planet bearing down at it. At the cloud tops, the temperature of Jupiter is thought to be -145 degrees C. As you descend into the planet, temperatures increase. When the pressure of the atmosphere is about 10 times what we have on Earth, the temperatures are roughly room temperature about 20 degrees C.
I hope that will help you in any further conversation with me or anyone else not briefed, :) The average recorded temperature on Mars is -63° C (-81° F) with a maximum temperature of 20° C (68° F) and a minimum of -140° C (-220° F).The average recorded temperature on Mars is -63° C (-81° F) with a maximum temperature of 20° C (68° F) and a minimum of -140° C (-220° F).
Barometric pressure varies at each landing site on a semiannual basis. these are hard data and you can check it.
@The3rdPlateau Although the Viking landers carried a seismometer, which could have given some definitive information about the state of the Martian core, the device was not well coupled to the surface and suffered from vibrations caused by the winds. Surface features indicate that seismic activity related to plate tectonics is minimal, although volcanic activity was clearly present in the last billion years, as shown by the giant dormant volcano Olympus Mons and others.
@jazuji lol whatever man, atoms move minimally within solid rock, or any solid for that matter. to call mars "seismically active" would be a mistake, just because it doesn't exist in absolute zero doesn't mean it isn't solid. you even said it yourself, Olympus Mons is dormant, as are Ascraeus Mons, Pavonis Mons, and Arsia Mons. There is no geological movement, let alone enough to cause it to be volcanically active. Which, again, is what Brian was talking about when he said Mars was dead.
@The3rdPlateau Is it just me or are we talking about something so far away and unexplored that we cant even get there, well alive at least? Lets talk about something else and leve Mars seemingly dead or alive, like you said, whatever XD. *Discretely changing subjects :So you getting some lately and why not hehe.
@The3rdPlateau oh cmon man that was not fair, i was joking :P, and man i would like to be eight again, that was some time for me, lots of friends and no cares, we were all over the neibghorhood back than.
@jazuji you know, this new layout for video comments is really lame. the two top rated comments appear on top, followed by the video responses, followed by the rest of the comments? why not just show all of the comments together, in the order they were posted...and then show video responses below that. anyways, meditating often takes me back to that childhood state of mind. so does lsd, under the right circumstances that is =P
@The3rdPlateau i mdont use light drugs such as crack or lsd, i use mmorpg or rts games XD, that takes me back to the famed and never forgotten times of civilization 1 and dune 1 & 2, c&c1 and 2, red alert, fallout 1 and 2.......... the list goes on. Man i think orion 2 is one of the best games ever
@jazuji ok ok ok ok, crack is not a light drug. crack is a hard drug. lsd, on the other hand, is a psychedelic drug which makes it nonaddictive and actually rather productive to use if you're trying to kick an addiction, because it encourages a sober lifestyle. now, i think the half-life series are the best games ever. f.e.a.r. was pretty good but the sequal was only okay, and now the third one is coming out...& alma is pregnant O.o
@The3rdPlateau who is Alma? Half life 1 was da best fps ever, cant beat that, never. the only fps that ever came close to it was half life 2 XD!! and LSD is a drug for itself that is true.
@jazuji ohhhh fuck yeah, i love the whole idea of being, like, instead of some genetically engineered super-soldier....a theoretical physicist. who picks up a shotgun and gets shit DONE. & alma is the creepy little girl from f.e.a.r. whom is kinda reminiscent of the little girl from the ring. && i can't wait for half-life2 episode 3, damn valve & their withholding information =P
@The3rdPlateau well i know that Alma allright, fucking horror shooters!! Hate em! Cant sleep afterwards and i hear you about witholding info, those blizzard guys are killing me with Starcraft2 !!!!!!!!! Banzaiiiiii!!
@The3rdPlateau Lol man, i got kids and a wife so i really dont see the thrill in any horror shooter while i have a real life triller and horror at the same time! XD

Mars is alive and anyone who still thinks otherwise is not exactly well informed or as they say "briefed"

@jazuji & also, any celestial body with an axial tilt has seasons, so that isn't saying much.

@jazuji okay okay, THAT is respectable. as long as we're clear the it has no volcanism.
