  • GET THE DRUGS OUT

  • That copper is right at 9:38, not everyone took e, or anything else.

I often went with just my camera, and boy do I have pictures that could ruin careers now!

  • man those cops, thank god for sane people

  • how things have changed.the big businesses have cottoned on to the marketing and advetising possibilities.if that was the case back then you wouldnt have had all the opposotion.i mean all the "festivals" are basically raves just renamed, you can go to glasto dance tent and look at the crowd completely fucked up.it pioneers like theses guys that paved the way for the modern gathering.

  • drug pushers loooooooooooool I don't remember needing any pushing, sooo funny

  • That's one righteous old cop at ~ 9:00 .

  • "Drug pushers are out and about".. haaaha..

  • Modern culture was shite in '89, that's why Rave culture happened because of a cultural climate i.e. unemployment, new music and new drugs. People were fed up of the stuffy yuppy attitude, designer suits and Stock Aitken and Waterman led Pop music.

Rave culture could happen again any time we want it to because the cultural climate is right. Raves were banned and moved to clubs because the government thought it could make money from alcohol tax. No brainer they should have legalised MDMA

  • @Dolsign From personal experience the house movement went down the shitter after 1989. Yeah I got sick and tired of designer suits and SAW too, by the same token I got tired of how the underground scene turned itself in to a commercial shit-fest. The site of people wearing face masks and waving glo-sticks signalled the end of it for me. Kiss FM were part of the problem, thankfully alternative house kept itself alive during the nineties - the hardcore break-beat formula hasn't aged well at all.

  • Kraftwerk is not noise - what is the dj talking about???

  • Alan Pape is sound.

  • hahahahahahaha ahhhh nowadays this is like very club..very nice to see the culture and the way people took it back then

  • I happen to think there were plenty of drug pushers that made these events happen Dozey arse's........E= Happy Times. F****ng Bozos!!! This culture was House Music and MDMA (E) whatever you called it. That was the mix, nothing else!!

  • I happen to enjoy the scene as much as I did since the late 80's, too many winers who say it used to be better and now its crap. The only thing I can think of that is missing is the freshness factor, music is produced way better, of course now there is more people who think they can produce good music. It seems most people just grow out of it and say it sucks now, I happen to love it still, no complaints here. Good film!

  • Time to play some Underworld and understand that Iggy Pop isn't whats cool anymore

  • 9:01 holy shit, a pig who makes sense? he must have been fired shortly after this.

  • Seriously whats worse? A rave with no attitude and good vibes or every town centre in the uk every weekend now, with drunken fights, stabbings and feral kids running wild?

  • thank you 4 this, i remember this, i had it on vid on watched it a lot, loved the tunes, and that blonde lass, Dammmmmm

and the robot dancers, smokey joe, mc b jam (from wear fm)

    BIG UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

  • I WAS THEY, I JUST DON´T REMEMBER.

  • @samilliw1 I STILL AM THEY.

  • What is it with the "we know what's best for you" attitude?

  • throwing my first rave with a few djs in a basement, hope to achive the same energy as a see in this video :)

  • @Scherer321 you will.

  • It makes me laugh these people syaing about drugs at events like these, of cause there are drugs around but are they so naive to think that no one at live aid or big events like that were of their heads. great film Boris

  • I used to visit some back in the early 90's but I wonder are there any raves these days in the UK or are happenings in the fields today all official festival things and legal commercial stuffs ?

  • @bissia there are still pocket of raves goin on in the country mate. I think Norfolk is the illegal rave capital these days these days get your self down there, Check out Brainz kan on myspace.

  • @bissia They are still very much going on both in the country and in the cities (London and Bristol defo). A quick google should cure your curiosity. But yeah, still very much going on and well attended. Its all very messy these days though lol

  • Is Smokey Joes mixer the one that DJ Jazzy Jeff helped Gemini to design? It looks kind of rubbish.

  • does anyone remember a tune that was out around 93. i heard it on a tall paul tape. it began with a sample taken from an early drama/film, made for tv, about rave culture. the sample says about an end of the millenium rave[fiddlers dream the end of the millenium]. he goes on to describe the various tents and then at 12 oclock you pull this string and all the tents lift up . if anyone knows what the fuck i,m on about let me know

  • cool vid mate

  • 89-95 great times and it was fantastic to be in your late teens/early twenties then. Never once saw any trouble at raves. A copper at the time told me he preferred policing raves over town centres full of drunks anyday as all the people were loved up and were no trouble!

I feel sorry for youngsters today, what have the poor bastards got other than P. Fucking Diddy and eating plant food.

  • @Smiffster2006

You've summed it up perfectly matey!

  • Comment removed

  • @danser01 : "eating plant food", that is a fookin classic. Miaow.

Like anyone used to "push" them on me. I used to seek them out. Did that make me a drug "puller"???

    haha

  • @kolakube123 dude that's the funniest shift I have heard in quite a while. Props

  • @SirCalvingunner

Just being honest mate. I can actually remember dealers being called pushers back then too. haha, great days back then.

  • watch out everyone the kids are dancing their asses off and having one hell of a time

  • It's great you guys still appreciate these times. It was a fantastic film to make, but I wasn't responsible for the voiceover, it was added later by the BBC to suit a middle aged audience. I made this film in 1992 - the police were dead genuine and I could only find that one woman who objected. Good times!

    (I'm the filmmaker, Boris Mcgooligan.)

  • @mcgooligan Thanks for the post, ill change the date and add a link to your user channel!

  • @mcgooligan AWESOME! glad to see this 18 years after you made it... and people around the world are viewing it. Thanks for documenting history!

    - Mike (California, USA)

  • @mcgooligan Amazing early insight into what's now such a crowded scene.

  • @mcgooligan Do you have the citation for this? Date aired... etc? I would love that info as I am including this in my MA thesis.

  • @mcgooligan

Memories mate. Great Documentary on BBC 2 if i remember right. Thanx for sharing it, i could'nt believe it when i stumbled across it.

  • @welshhibby

you are so right man, these days they're using electro house and this electropop shit and nu rave and calling it rave. And calling these electronic clubs and concerts with high prices raves. Bullshit. Raves are free and fun.

  • decent copper @ 9.00ish, more of them would be a very good thing. now if 20 people meet up with a common interest (like photography for instance) they run the risk of being stopped/searched, you cant even attend a demo now without the riot squad ketlting all & sundry untill some one dies . oh wait, that happened, rip m8. democracy is dying. get off your arse as mr lydon once said. peacefully

  • what's that take me to the top tune at the end?
