Glasgow back in the day was full of raves in a big way from Dessert Storms to others down Ayr-shire s EARTHQUACKER + THE REZERRECTIONS ,all big - money spinners so it would me first in the que this time around.
Relapsed (Intense Mix) Urban Hype. Yes, Urban Hype! You heard me right. Best tune they released. Well compared to that pile of shit "Trip to trumpton" anyhow.
i don't listen to house much, but i appreciate house music, because if this genre didn't exist, techno and trance wouldn't exist. they have some roots of house. trance takes the melodic elements of house, techno takes the basic beats of house, but techno is an intelligent genre with complex beats, spiced with more electro funk hi hats and snare drums unlike the simple beats of house. i love it all anyway.
how things have changed.the big businesses have cottoned on to the marketing and advetising possibilities.if that was the case back then you wouldnt have had all the opposotion.i mean all the "festivals" are basically raves just renamed, you can go to glasto dance tent and look at the crowd completely fucked up.it pioneers like theses guys that paved the way for the modern gathering.
Modern culture was shite in '89, that's why Rave culture happened because of a cultural climate i.e. unemployment, new music and new drugs. People were fed up of the stuffy yuppy attitude, designer suits and Stock Aitken and Waterman led Pop music.
Rave culture could happen again any time we want it to because the cultural climate is right. Raves were banned and moved to clubs because the government thought it could make money from alcohol tax. No brainer they should have legalised MDMA
@Dolsign From personal experience the house movement went down the shitter after 1989. Yeah I got sick and tired of designer suits and SAW too, by the same token I got tired of how the underground scene turned itself in to a commercial shit-fest. The site of people wearing face masks and waving glo-sticks signalled the end of it for me. Kiss FM were part of the problem, thankfully alternative house kept itself alive during the nineties - the hardcore break-beat formula hasn't aged well at all.
... and taxed that instead. The only legal reason that can really stop Rave culture from happening again is trespassing on private property and the Criminal Justice Bill.
The Act specifically defines "music" to include "sounds wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats." Dubstep creates a loop hole in this law as the beats are often non repetitive. If the land is respected and cleaned up afterwards there should be no real issues with trespassing.
I happen to think there were plenty of drug pushers that made these events happen Dozey arse's........E= Happy Times. F****ng Bozos!!! This culture was House Music and MDMA (E) whatever you called it. That was the mix, nothing else!!
I happen to enjoy the scene as much as I did since the late 80's, too many winers who say it used to be better and now its crap. The only thing I can think of that is missing is the freshness factor, music is produced way better, of course now there is more people who think they can produce good music. It seems most people just grow out of it and say it sucks now, I happen to love it still, no complaints here. Good film!
Seriously whats worse? A rave with no attitude and good vibes or every town centre in the uk every weekend now, with drunken fights, stabbings and feral kids running wild?
Remember taping this on vhs when i was 13 years old.How it helped change my life for ever! Many times 2 of the tunes in this documentary have come into my mind while im fucked and i alw ays say im going to find em so lets get on it.Theres one with the robots dancing in the 3rd clip and then theres the last tune meditation.Dont make tunes like these any more or partys and lets face it the people also seem to be a dying breed too.Bring back the snowballs, disco biscuits, pearls, love doves etc.
It makes me laugh these people syaing about drugs at events like these, of cause there are drugs around but are they so naive to think that no one at live aid or big events like that were of their heads. great film Boris
