for everybody saying people should have left earlier needs to shut their mouths. we left central ohio at 9am,got to florence kentucky around noon, ate at cracker barrel, then headed to the race track around 1:30. it took us 7 hours to go 24 miles from that point!!!!! by the time we sat down in our seats, there were 90 laps to go. and i have been to 4 different races prior to this without anything close to the clusterfuck we encountered headin to kentucky.
I left Louisville at 10:00am...was parked and tailgating at 12:30pm sharp. How in the world did 20,000 people think that they were going to drive in and get parked with out any traffic problems. At any big event with over 100.000 attending you always leave early and stay late. They have only themselves to blame.
Thanks dude, for posting this. We'll see if Nascar can afford to loose 20k new fans?
After talking-up Nascar races live to my son, this was his first race. They made the race but had to park in a ditch. Race was OK, another Kyle Bush Blow-out. But it took 8.5 hours to get home,(6a.m.), when it should have taken 2.5 hours' Burton Smith is responsible, he screwed-up Texas's opening and now he wants to race the last race in Las Vegas, in the snow, I guess. Genius ?
Sympathies go out to those truckers caught up in that mess. They don't make any money when they're sitting in traffic like that, and it's not like they can just make up the miles afterwords - they work on a set clock and can't go over so many hours of driving per day.
Me and my dad came from Dayton Ohio, and left our house at 2:30 and we got to The Florence Y'all tower at about 3:15 then we got to 71 and all hell broke loose..sat in traffic for 5 hours!!!...missed half of The race because they were not letting us park in spaces that weren't even taken up..what a Cluster Fuck!!
Thanks to this guy for documenting this mess. We sat in that mess, but turned around at about 45 min before the race. It took us 2 hours to go 9 miles. When we saw that we had another 9 miles to go, we turned around because it was no use. That was the best decision we ever made.
By the time this video was shot, we were at a restaurant drinking beers and watching the race on TV.
I've been going to the Indycar race since they opened in 2000 and it's ALWAYS been bad. That 1st yr it took us 4 hours to leave the parking lot! Indycar gets 40-50k and it's always a hassle to get to the track unless you get there WAAAAY early. Every year the track says they'll work to fix it and they never do...they will never get the traffic problem fixed. Its a shame cause its actually a nice track, they for some reason have NO CLUE how to manage the traffic issue...and they never will.
My kid brother lives in a group home in Sparta, right off the main exit to the KY Speedway. I visited him last week and told him there'd be NO WAY I'd visit him THIS weekend (the weekend of the race.) I knew it was going to be bad - I had no idea it was THIS BAD. Thanks for posting.
it took us 3 hours to go the last 3 miles to the track. at one point we were only moving one tenth of a mile every 15 minutes. it was rediculously stupid!
WOW! I like your video, good perspective. We left Covington around 10:00am and got out of the vehicle at 11:30am. It seemed like they were parking people one car at a time. The late night traffic was hell too. Left around 2:30am when it appeared traffic was dying...but nope...several incidents on the highway (and the ^$#^&% left lane that suddenly ends) made for a rather intense drive home. Got back to Covington at 4:40am. Thanks for posting the vid
yeah this fucking sucked. we left out of Franklin, just south of Dayton, OH at noon and didn't get to our seats until they were firing the engines. and i thought the Nationwide race traffic was bad two years ago..HAH! unless they fix the traffic flow and parking issues, i won't be back. those new 40,000 seats are going to look good empty next year. sorry to everyone who couldnt get into the race
hey xdriver99x thanks for being the guy that has to analyze this video, I was traveling about 80 to 90mph cause every cop in the area ws at the track, that traffic was 3 miles further after the video stopped, but thanks for analyzing this!!
They need to do what Loudon did. Crossover lanes to the other side of the highway. Fix the exit ramp to allow more traffic flow, and then create multiple lanes for the road going in like Loudon does to Rt. 106 (standard 2 lane road with breakdown lane on either side, they set up both lanes plus a breakdown lane for incoming traffic and the one other breakdown lane for outbound).
Everyone turned around when they realized that Busch was winning

they didn't miss anything. it was a typical boring cookie cutter race.

This has been flagged as spam show
and the sad thing is there were no places to do a u-turn at even if they knew they weren't gonna make the race.

no problem, speed. I travel thru there alot. I was told it was backed up to the 71/75 split which is almost another 5 miles.

The bus at 00:02 with TURNER on the side was my bus. 6 hours for 20 miles is horrible. Nice taping.

I was in that mess West bound and it was the same way. We got to the track just to miss the green flag but at least we got there.

3:34 in video you are 5 miles from the track. (hwy 127) @ 6:09 in video you are 12 miles from the track

Well, how far did it go? The traffic jam was still going at the end of the video.

Ironic. SMI must have brought Atlanta's traffic with them to Sparta, along with their race.

This was 20 minutes into the race! I was backed up for 18 miles. Made it to our seats just in time for green. After 9 1/2 hours on the road.
