Congratulations to Felicity's parents. You must have invested so much time and love on her plus I think she is extremely talented. I hope you can show us a video on how she is doing now.
somebody could show her what to do!!! e.t.c. he wrote "arms up"!!! somebody could show her hoe to move her arms up this moment, but we just cant she him or her on the video!!!
This girl reminds me of my sister. She is smart as well and she was an honour roll student all through high school and musically gifted as well. She was reading books at 3 years old. This girl is probably doing extremely well in school. If a parent spends time with their kids reading to them all the time. They will pick it up. My mom did with my sister. It's not that this child is smarter. It's that her parents take the time to teach her as mine did with my sister.
simply regurgitation. you are making a smart baby, but one that cannot think for itself is not smart at all...a baby must make sense of the world and then once aquiring that knowledge, should begin to try and comprehend all that happens around them...assist in this creative beginning as you will...but feeding information into a young persons brain may make them think they know what everything is....when it may not be
The brains of young children aren't yet developed enough to read without it costing them in the organization of their brain. The areas involved in language and reading aren't fully connected until age 7 or 8. When teaching children to do tasks which their brains aren't yet developed to do via the normal pathways, the brain will stumble upon other, less efficient ways to accomplish the tasks & can lead to later learning disabilities, including visual-processing deficits. tinyurl . com / 2fp9ob2
@erthemama Your comment about brain organization for reading has no research base whatsoever. Too much TV screen time, which everyone should be against, is not the same as joyful joint media engagement between a parent and a child who are playing word games is short durations or enjoying a read aloud with soft-ware driven technology. J. Richard Gentry, Author of Raising Confident Readers: How to Teach Your Child to Read and Write—From Baby to Age 7 (Da Capo, 2010). Baby reading is great!
this video inspired me to do my best with my child's education. He's now about 24 months and reading 4 letter words, mainly bodyparts, animals and tv-personalities.
It's trial and error for me but big fun for him, just 10 min. a day then he looses hisintression. Counting goes a lot easier.
amazingggggggggggggggggg I LOVE THIS VIDEO as well as the 2nd 1!!! When I have a baby that's how he or she is going to be reading...Hopefully earlier :)
that could look impresive but, if all parent would put a significant effort every day into their child like this asian guy, smart babies would be a common thing.
@lulumother That's something harder to do than it seems. When you do things with an intention, but you don't really know if ur right in doing it, it shows. I mean, do you know ur right? Just act naturally, as things occur. Show yourself, that's what should be normal. I think... I think it's important to show kids the way the world works. Yeah.
your baby is soo smart congrats all u who leave stupid ass comments are neglegent its a baby u stupid fuks do the world a favor and eat battery acid:)
It's not that she's super smart just that some one taught her those words and actions and she pcs learnt them but by memory because babies have very good memories
God bless you and her, you are a great teacher I wish you would have thought my teachers how to teach me :-), I will teach my baby same way because I will be a dad by march 2011
Sad that she has to please her dad rather than be joyfully inner- directed. Babies can perform impressively. But this baby is missing out on developing vastly more valuable higher learning skills, skills that she would develop naturally, through play. Don't be fooled by these companies that want you to spend hundreds of dollars wasting your children's time memorizing like chimpanzees can do, rather than imagining, reasoning, exploring, problem solving...
Are you suggesting that this child does not get to develop naturally through play because her parents practice reading exercises with her? How is Felicity missing out on anything? I'm sure she leaves a very normal baby life and still plays the way any other typical child does. I don't see anything wrong with what is going on in this video. She seems genuinely interested in what her and her father are engaged in.
@janetlansbury How very sad that I have never had children and even I know that ANY child loves to learn wether it be thru an actual lesson like Felicity is doing with her father or on her own. Babies are curious by nature and the more thier minds are fed then happier they are. @7711731 Your just being nasty and learn to spell please...sad the babe is smarter then you...@Brillbaby She is beautiful and smart better keep an eye on her when she is older, she is gonna be a double threat :)
Way to go!!! You really found a good way to let her express her potential!! Do you do any other activities with her that focus on maybe mathematical or music skills. Just wondering because I love finding new ideas on how to stimulate my daughters mind too.

if you publish a video tomorrow, showing her words in script or different types of handwriting, i will accept she knows how to read. right now it is just an associative process of inures, just if you show her a car or something else. Right now her learning is not about knowledge, but as training, just as you would do to a pet. Eager to see the video tomorrow and accept that i was wrong

Aww :( The part where it says, "videos, flash card, and so on" It's good to be invested, but don't forget to let her be a kid :( At 1 year old if she doesn't want to be tested and wants to crawl around and play she should... A little baby is supposed to explore the world and taste things and touch things, not spend any time learning any complex things at all. This is better than parents who don't care about their kids, but I don't know about beneficial :(
NOW HOLD ON JUST A SECOND HERE! This whole reading at 13 months really isn't that good for your child, at least in the fucked up world we live in. I have this friend who was reading young like this too. Once he got into school, he new all of this stuff, so school was utterly worthless for him. Instead of playing with friends, he would brag to parents about how smart he was. He ended up getting home schooled for one year.
lol in a way you would think everythime your baby leans back is because it wants to do something different, in a out of the box perscpective when your baby kicks the pad away im sure its bored, to a kid it would think the more it does you eventually stop :F lol or if thats not the case atleast your baby will do good in school :O
I do not believe this is child abuse. I think her parents are thinking of their child to let her learn to read. Babies learn to read just as naturally as they learn to speak , and it is not child abuse to teach them to speak.

Mriran....u r completely wrong... The child must teach and learn when they are small they can more smart and bright...I am reallly proud this baby make so smart....i love it this vedio...
And you would not be the first to think so! :) That babies don't like to learn and need to be forced is Myth #2. The truth is, babies love to learn, especially the younger they are. See end of the Baby Felicity Reading Compilation video and the BrillBaby site for more.
@brillbaby babies absorbe new information like a sponge and are curious about everything, this is one smart and adorable baby, some babies learn faster than others its all about weather they are ready developmentally and some do have genius qualities and are ready at a very early age to learn new concepts and ideas, A very ready child you have there :-)
aaawwee! what a little cutie pie.. that is one very smart baby.. and it looks like she is really enjoying the game.. babies love when grownups interact and play with them. i bet she turns out to be one happy kid after all this bonding time with her dad
let the baby be a baby.. play with toys and have fun. Reading should pop up in life later.... I do not have as many good memories about reading as i have about playing and messing around
yeah thats right but if she really want to she would do it you know if she doesn't like it well the kid will cry you know but this is a genius kid so she know what she wanted to do...
Look-Say as this baby demonstrates is best introduced before phonics because once phonics are introduced as strategic method for learning new words, phonics upsets belief that spellings of many new words encountered will continue to break all phonetic rules and must therefore be memorized. Better to learn spelling is arbitrary as experience with Look-Say will prove over and over than to be conned by phonics into believing there is a rational plan for spelling English words that is phonetic.
@LosetheStone16 ....it's way better to teach phonics as a general rule, then teach exceptions. This is more so because, even in a phonetically murky language like English, most of the words follow rules.
come to think of it...learning spoken language is actually more complex than learning to recognize written words. Maybe we should all start teaching children how to read first before teaching them to speak!
She's smart and adorable, but not because she's asian. I have lived in asia for almost a decade, and I haven't seen more intelligence here than in the west. That is all beside the point, though. This baby is really sweet.
Its all the dish they eat

@brillbaby babies absorbe new information like a sponge and are curious about everything, this is one smart and adorable baby, some babies learn faster than others its all about weather they are ready developmentally and some do have genius qualities and are ready at a very early age to learn new concepts and ideas, A very ready child you have there :-)

let them play with their toys when they're smart and rich in life
hechosdcolon 2 years ago
let the baby be a baby.. play with toys and have fun. Reading should pop up in life later.... I do not have as many good memories about reading as i have about playing and messing around

Maybe we should all start teaching children how to read first before teaching them to speak!
adorable kid, btw!

Asian, what a surprise :) That's one genious baby
sirLEVITSKY 2 years ago
She's smart and adorable, but not because she's asian. I have lived in asia for almost a decade, and I haven't seen more intelligence here than in the west. That is all beside the point, though. This baby is really sweet.

I have too (not for a decade). I have come to the same conclusion.
