  • how long did that take im beeb working on a peace if 1 almost a year and its only the size of a sheet of paper

  • @lilwalkinglegs I think it was a winter or two watching tv lol

  • Thats cool I did`nt realize you were into making mid evil armour .

  • @MrMrtiki I was trying too break into juosting at the time lol. It cost alot of money so I started making my own armor

  • @ShawnCFarm Years ago I started making a family crest and suit of armour our family is Scottish though it would be cool to have one standing in the corner -but we had a water line break above where I stored the pieces I made and they rusted so bad had to throw them out they were`nt tempered yet .

  • @MrMrtiki start over. I can trace my family name back to the ten centry before it changes from another name. You might already have a family chrest if you look online

  • @ShawnCFarm I have our family tree it shows the crest and coat of arms very cool really but I don`t have the time to start that all over again -i`ll just imagine my Bobcat is a coat of arms LOL just as heavy .

  • @ShawnCFarm Do you know where to look to see if theres one .

  • @ShawnCFarm I would try e-bay or there is another armor website but I can't remember what the name of it is

  • I was thinking more of selling mine, I want to make it worth the time.. Would you pay 1500$ for a whole hand-made suit?

  • @gcforlive2 Not me thats why I made one lol. Other might pay. Check out some of the armor sites

  • The coif doesnt seem even, and Ive made this chest piece 6/1 on the abs and back with 4/1 sleeves it's pretty decent.. BTW, how much do you think is a whole suit worth?

  • @gcforlive2 Not sure what it would cost to buy one, I think it was alot of money back when I made this one.

  • Wicked man! I had a 4x6 inch swatch on my keys from when I made some chainmail, but while helpin a buddy load a scrap truck..POOF I lost it and my keys either in gravel or the field. <: P I was so cheesed! I used industrial bail wire.(about coathanger guage) It used to be my kids favourite thing to play with when they were little. lol ; ) *thumbs up* How many hours/days would ya guesstamate ya got into all that?

  • @theGHETTOMAN1 It took me all one winter to do it lol. could be 80 to 120 hours right there

  • Oh yeah, 1 more thing, if you do decide to put feet on it, make sure they have open bottoms, don't make them like socks, this way, you can use leather thonging or shoe lace to tie it to the bottom of your footwear.

  • the chainmail legs are called chaussers

  • @YouGotQuickScoped Thanks

  • you di d a really good job dude im in the middle of a six in 1 suit right now and hav a way 2 go but as soon as its done i'll post a vid and u can tell me wat u think but great job dude

  • @BlemishedOcean Thanks, I wish I had time to make more out of something lighter lol. I thought 4 in 1 was a pain I can't wait to see your 6 in 1

  • @ShawnCFarm phew its deffinetly a pain i tell ya ^_^ but i'll post it as soon as its finished...or a halfway post

  • @ShawnCFarm figured id let you know that i stopped makin my 6in1 for now but ill pick it back up...since then ive made a 4in1 vest 1 million bracelets...lol...and a 4in1 coif ill post it within the week and show you how it was intended to wear

  • @BlemishedOcean 6 in ones looks to hard to do lol. I'd like to make more chainmail someday but out of something lighter

  • @ShawnCFarm hey if u wanna c my chainmail this is my mail channel...i am posting a video now...this is Blemishedocean btw

  • @ArchangelVsWorld its 14 fencing wire. Not the best thing to use but it was cheap.

  • prettty cool, must have taken forever

  • @Ackarattack It took all one winter lol

  • what pattern 4-1 or 6-1

  • @oblivionboy1 Its a 4 in one

  • lol! why didnt you wear it??

  • @HardstyleShuffler98 Not sure, maybe I'll make another video soon ridding horseback in it

  • Where did you get the helmet?!

  • @failboatkidsrsdie Made it from a pic I saw on the net.

  • great work man! i tried once to make chain mail... but school messed it up:P

  • Thanks. I don't think I'd make another one lol. Takes to much time.

  • I disagree with your comment about the sword not being a good job. If you made all that, including the sword, yourself, then you did a mighty damn good job of it. Be proud of your accomplishments, brother! I salute your dedication.

  • Thanks but I'll never have to much time again.

  • I can't make everyone happy. If you didn't like it why'd you watch it, or wast your time and mine by leaveing dum comments. By the look at how many videos that you have on your fav list you spend why more time on this then I do. So what do you call fun? Blowing stuff up, well I'v done that to.

  • Yup. But by looking at your videos that you have made you have a much fuller life then I LOL. Oh wait you don't have any.

  • Have you managed to complete the hauberk(?)?

Are you thinking of doing chausses?

Do you have any other kit/parts?

    Anywho, awesome job! :D

  • No plans on completing the hauberk any past my waist. Chausses are what you see on the table, they don't have feet on them yet.

  • lol ah... dude i wanna see you spend 250 hours doing this.. if you did i would be amazed

  • Not sure how long it took, but it was too long. I would never do it again. Well one winter anyway on and off

  • You caught me. Yup a virgin.

  • yo bud

you got a chainmail condom you can sell me

  • WOW that is cool!

  • Let me tell you something, according to the medieval sources (Arabic) the shield was considered good whenever the diameter circle was smaller, And they usually wear a double shield for The Knights, I tried to create a very strong shield with very small diameter ,But this project was not completed for several reasons, including medical reasons..!!

  • can i use coat hangers? i get them for free

  • You can, and some of the very first stuff I messed around with is what I used. But it will rust and the coating will rub/peal off. You can even make it out of copper wire but its not as strong.

  • hi, im young and just learning how to make chainmail. I managed to make the mantle for a coif, but idk how to make the top? any advise?

  • I just used and old T-shit to start of as a patteren. just remember to make it abit lose on you or you will never get it on. There are lots of sites on the web that you can get patterens off of. Thanks for watching

  • I couldn't see clearly, are they flattend and riveted rings?

  • Nope I cheated , they are 14gauge with I think its 10mm or 3/8 inside die .

  • Nice. I understood you said 70 pounds at 1:23, but it's 17, right :-p?

You could finish the tuni with leather, this seems very uncomfortable to me. It also would give your back some support, which should make it easier to carry.

  • I think its around 70lbs but can't remember. Lets just say its heavy LOL

  • Then you mean the total, with the complete tunic? Hey i just noticed, the arms are made in te opposite direction of the body, does that move easily? I saw that type before on movies but didn't understand why. That way you don't use the direction in which chainmail is most flexible.

  • Nope they are hanging the same way. You have to look close

  • They do? With oposite direction i mean when you put the arms straight, not next to the body but in T-shape. Doens't the direction of the rings changes at the shoulders?

  • Hmmmm . I had to go check it myself. The rings all hang the same way if I hang my arms to my side. They act like a curtain so that it can expand and contract with my movement. I'll try and do another vid of it with it on so you can see what I'm talking about. Thanks for the comment bro.

  • I understand ;-). With my chainmail I made my arms in te sam direction as the body (so it extends to the sides, like yourbody part does). If I hold my arms down, next to my body the rings haven't got the same direction. With the lines running horizontaly on my body en verticaly on my arms. Do you get what I mean?

  • I got ya. I have seen them made that way before. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do as there are a few ways to do it lol.

  • Ofcourse there are ;-) was just wondering what the advantages of this type were ;-).

  • I find that it fits better and hangs around my arms better, but then again I do not have one made the other way to compare it to. When I was making it I thought it would be better to keep the rings hanging the same way when my arms where at my side so to speak.

  • You can also cut on the weight of the legs. I used cloth for the upper part of my leg, which is covered by my tunic anyway.

  • what gauge rings and how big?

  • 14 gauge fencing wire you can buy at any farm store/hardware. The inside id is ether 10mm or 3/8 can't remember. If I had to do it again I would use a smaller gauge wire with smaller id rings to keep the weight down. Or use aluminum wire.

  • i can get used to the weight of it on the ground but when riding with it on at a gallop it kills my lower back. I allmost fell of once with my lance because of the weight on my lower back. Will have to work up to it again as I have not riden with it on in a few years.

  • cool! Aw, just start wearing it.... you'll get used to the weight. then you can finish. :-)
