When I play with Max, I let them take my two bases but they always buy infantry, thus giving the AI extra funds to buy tanks and vehicles on the other base. How do I persuade the AI to make vehicle units near my base?
@PoetryRocksLogic Your mistake is probably that you're destroying the enemy infantry (or giving them the opportunity to join). If they have too few infantry/mechs at a time, they'll build more.
@DragonFogel I let the infantry live and stay unharmed and AI build aa's and artillery (more frequently). But then they stopped and went back to creating mechs and infantry.
Sometimes the AI infantry would attack my infantry (only when they are on the plains/fields) thus losing HP. Could this be the reason why the AI made 5-6 infantry at my base?
@PoetryRocksLogic I'm not sure about the influx of infantry, but they rarely attack in AW1 unless the enemy CO's power is active, even against infantry, transports, or indirects.
As for the rockets on the last turn, if the AI doesn't have rockets, has a Mid Tank, and has the funds after rebuilding higher priority units (infantry or APCs), then it will build rockets almost every time.
I was a complete pussy at this and other games like this back when I was younger. I should really try playing them again. I never picked up on the enemy preferentially targeting APCs, for instance - because I never used them! Seriously my god
This has to be the most amazing AW video I've ever seen...it's old but few AW players really know the significance of the War Room Completion project. And the perfect strategies required to make it happen.
By the way, what you really should crack is Rivals AC ; ) I have yet to see any REAL advice about that mission even from the best.
Yes, because of that, it's incredibly difficult to get the 999 here unless you use Sami. With added APC and T-Copter movement, she can capture the HQ in exactly 12 days. It's still tricky, but it's a *lot* easier than this crazy method of mine.
So basically continually using saving states until you get a 6 roll on every dice is the way to S rank. How strategic...I'd rather play the way the game is meant to be.
You can also use emulators and just save the frame right before every action. Like you can save right before a jet attacks and wait until it does the max damage. It'd be much faster and none the more tactical.
I have this score on cart, with no cheats of any kind. I *still* did a lot of saving and reloading to pull that off.
The advantage an emulator gives me is that I effectively have multiple save slots, which makes experimenting a lot easier.
It doesn't make the game any less strategic; you still have to figure out which enemy moves you can work with, and which attacks absolutely must do the most damage.
Grit: When you reach Mission 4, pick Max. Then beat the Campaign.
Drake: When you get to the first mission against him, pick Andy for the next four missions. (Up until Andy Times Two.) Then go on to beat the Campaign.
Nell: Beat Advance Campaign. (Warning: This is very, very difficult. And you do NOT want Eagle as an ally on The Final Battle, because then you'll have to do Rivals AC, which is insanely difficult.)
I should note that once it's *built*, as far as I can tell it will always move to the same place. The same goes for the Mid Tank built on the turn after, which will sometimes decide to park on a city in Olaf's territory instead of moving west.
Ideally, you want a save the day after the copter is built where it's going to move south - one of many reasons why savestates are a big time-saver in doing this.
How did u damage that md tank with your infantry? for me, it always says 0% damage, and its only possible with sami and if it has 1hp, even then its rare..
sh.. i always thought it would be bad if the enemy would capture a starting base of yours. but actually it can be great, because then you can easily kill everything he builds and then he loses lots of money... and less units to battle where you are.
It's not something you want to do all the time, but in a few cases it can really speed up the win. Since you only have 12 days to get perfect Speed on this map, it's pretty much a necessity for getting 999 without Sami.
Another map where it's useful is The Final Battle. Let Sturm take the airport near Andy; towards the end, he'll often build bombers from there and you can easily destroy them, wasting most of his funds.
for TFB!, you may lose speed pts for that, cause it takes more days for him to take that airport. you can finish the map much faster.. without him taking the airport
Quite the opposite. There's enough time to let him reach the airport without it slowing down the win. Then once he has it, he builds less in his territory due to all the funds he's pumping into the bombers, so you can finish him off faster.
I'm not suggesting you hang back until he has the airport. I'm suggesting you strategically block off cities while you advance so that the infantry gets to that airport. At most, this means you have one or two units not moving optimally for a day or two - that's not going to slow down the advance much. Then the final push into his territory goes faster and has fewer risks.
It's *much* easier to get a 999 this way. A faster strategy might exist, but it wouldn't be as reliable.
I'm not sure which city you're referring to, or what exactly you're suggesting. If you mean the city near the airport, I ignored it so I could get the airport sooner and build a fighter.
I don't *need* the fighter to finish the map, (I did the map with Drake using the same basic strategy with no fighter, since his are very weak) but it gives me more options. Most notably, if Olaf builds an air unit near his HQ at the end, I can take it out with the fighter.
In this Video !! He was using brilliant strategy !! But i think it'd be the best if you just use Artlry's and 2 Mech's so we wont want to face MdTank or worse : MegaTank !!! Don't you argree ??? (I was playing AW4 not AW1)
wow! That was kinda nice, at first I thought you were crazy because you let the enemy capture your starting bases, but that was just part of your plan!
And the whole point of this video is that Sonja is the worst choice for this map, (she has no strengths that are applicable to the War Room in AW1, and an annoying weakness) but it's still possible to get 999.
In fact, on the AW1 version of the map, it was long thought impossible to get a perfect score without Sami due to the 12-day limit for Speed.
Maybe, if I can figure out how to get better picture quality. I was working on a video of Kanbei on this map before, but found myself getting frustrated with the recording process. I might have been having bad luck with the run as well, I don't remember.
nice video, I've been trying to get this, but now i know the right approach. But, I still think you lucked out with SOnja :P, if any of those units had even 1 damage of bad luck... especially the infantry vs mech at the end where it was rounded up, then you would've lost it all... but, good video ☺
Well, this wasn't all in one shot, I did a bunch of savestates and spliced them together to make a smoother (and shorter) video. And let me tell you, bad luck was the single biggest reason I needed those savestates. =P
You can usually tell when I loaded state by discontinuities in the music. I'm not trying to hide it, but showing a hundred reloads would make for a boring video. =P
I can't understand why you let the enemy capture one of your bases, the only reason I can think of is that your getting the enemy to funnel funds into a futile area?
That's exactly it. Olaf builds at my bases, and then I immediately destroy the units he builds. This way, I don't have to get anywhere near his HQ to finish the rout in time. You lose points if you take more than 12 days.
Your strategy was merely better.

I managed to get an S-rank a week or so ago. I got 970. Thanks for the advice.

Another question, on the last day, does it require luck and chance for the AI to build the rockets, under the circumstances in the video?

I'm still a beginner to this game and I love it.
I found this when searching for an Advenced Campaign playthrough. I can't find one though, Do you know if there even is one online?
I didn't search your channel so far. I'm going to do that now, so if there is a AC playthrough you don't need to answer my question :P

is this game worth buying? i have Dual Strike and Days of ruin for DS but i've never played the Advance wars games for gba.
docduo 3 years ago
If you want a challenge, then yes!
It's the hardest campaign and about on par with the AWDoR war room for getting perfect scores.
Not to mention that it's got some cute and quirky charm that was lost in the later games.
XenesisXenon 3 years ago
well, it didn't lose the "Cute and Quirkiness" until DoR.
I'm not too good at hard campaign, i'm stuck on level 23 on dual strike, (on normal campain), but it is still a fun game.

do you like dual strike mire then ruin? because i think dual is better. just want to know your meaning
