Looks good. Just wondering how often you rotate your stock. I see a lot of items that will expire or get stale withing a few years or even months. What's your system for keeping everything fresh? Last question, how much do you spend monthly stocking up? Thanks for the video.
It's a shame that the majority of that medicine will be expired long before you need it. This is why I don't stock up heavily on medicine, or food that I know we don't eat on a regular basis. I know some of the survival foods have a 30 year shelf life, but most regular food is only a couple years.
I stock well on things we use every day and rotate.
My storage consists largely of whole wheat berries, brown rice, rolled oats, variety of dried beans, canned tomatoes, powdered milk, dried peas & corn, flour, pasta, variety of nuts, every spice under the sun, coconut oil, cocoa powder, palm shortening, some white sugar & sucanat (unrefined cane sugar), honey, variety of dried fruits. All our meat is in the freezer, which is bad. Getting a pressure canner soon to start canning meats. Been working 3 yrs to eliminate processed foods from our diet
What else do you grow in your garden? Do you dehydrate? Dehydrate as much fruits & veggies as you can. It takes up a fraction of the storage space AND it's 100x's more nutritious than canned. The canned fruit has been cooked to death & then soaked in high fructose corn syrup. For all canned products they tend to start with the older/poorer quality produce as well.
It's great you have a years supply of food that can probably strecth to 2 years,but what do you do when all the food runs out?God help us if this country gets hit hard with something that we can't come back from..What would you then?Are you prepared for the long term.see im preping for my parents who think im loosing my mind but still support me anyway,and im doing the same thing for my brother an me,now my crazy religous sister thinks that everything can be fixed with a prayer?is another case.
Excellent planning. One important point to emphasize, be sure to rotate stock. Whenever you go shopping for the stuff you use daily, put THOSE items in storage and take something from the shelf. This keeps the expiration dates in check. It's also a good idea to move the shelves away from the wall so you can put the new stuff in back and use the older stuff from the front.
Before you condemn he's planning and storing what his family will need and use..as any one knows with kids, the most vitamin packed stuff is worthless if they wont eat it, Normality is king when keeping kids calm.

I think people should stop bitching, this is a fantastic idea we live in a day and age where anything could happen, i always believe in being prepared for anything, it saves last minute crowds and panic in the supermarkets if something happens (storms, epidemics, power failures and anything else) we all know shelf life etc is a requirement by law, most foods, drinks are perfectly fine after the sell by date, can foods lasts for years what do you think they had the in the war times

Don't think hording is gonna help much if there really is another world war, everyone will be dead EVERYONE. We have to power to destroy ourselves in less than an hour, if it really does kick of, your stock of food will be extremely radioactive, same as your house, if its still there at all... I think the better question is how much cough syrup one family can use! That would be a 10 - 15 yr or more supply for us. I'm hard pressed to go through one bottle before the expiration date even though I have no problem using it after the date.

@Exitizen Not really, hes storing stuff that his family eats daily so they can be rotated out instead of just storing dry food(food is where you get a lot of your water). And the snacks? Bear in mind that he has children, and the snacks will help to keep them calm and happy in a scary situation. Also storing stuff that you usually eat instead of dry food also helps to raise morale; provides some degree of "normalcy." You can't underestimate the psychology of survival.

Word of advice before you go around killing in the name of survival, is that if you do survive, you still have to live with your conscience. And surviving only to loose your soul and humanity, is a life you may not want to live.
I noticed your bags of flour and rice on the shelf......I highly reccomend that you get large mylar bags and pour the flour/rice in them, and seal up with oxygen absorbers. Or, you can just use food grade 5 gallon buckets with a good sealing top, and add oxygen absorbers. I was lazy and did not get around to doing one 25lb bag of flour and in a few months it got clumpy from the little humidity in my cool storage area. Also had salt containers get hard.

You are supposed to consume your stock and refresh it almost constantly... And no one should consume all these chips/snacks and sugar drinks on daily basis.

good vid. I buy a couple mini propane bottles every month for my camp stove. in a disaster situation, gas lines(as well as elec.) will likely be shut down. those little propane bottles last quite a while and sometimes sporting goods stores have them on sale.
That stuff will eventually go bad, yes. Most canned goods are good for two or three years. The goal of food storage like what you see in this video is to simply be prepared. The key is to store what you normally eat, and rotate it out over time, or donate annually to a food bank prior to reaching the expiration date! Very little of that is what you really want to have as a real SHTF prepper. It's an adequate pantry for a family with bad eating habits, but this is bad for SHTF.

@Cathianne1 There is a concept that you should familiarize your self with, we call it "36 hours 'till animal." It is to remind us that a human, when deprived of water or food for 36 ours they become an animal. You should not ignore this truth and don't think that you are above it. Personally I would rather wait out a disaster in my basement eating spaghettios than have to live with the things I would otherwise do in an "animal" state of mind.

Food hoarding makes sense but, keep in mind, you don't want EVERYONE around you knowing you have a stash.
If things go south, not only will people want you to share your stash, if things get bad enough, people will kill you for what you have and they don't have.

My storage consists largely of whole wheat berries, brown rice, rolled oats, variety of dried beans, canned tomatoes, powdered milk, dried peas & corn, flour, pasta, variety of nuts, every spice under the sun, coconut oil, cocoa powder, palm shortening, some white sugar & sucanat (unrefined cane sugar), honey, variety of dried fruits. All our meat is in the freezer, which is bad. Getting a pressure canner soon to start canning meats. Been working 3 yrs to eliminate processed foods from our diet

What else do you grow in your garden? Do you dehydrate? Dehydrate as much fruits & veggies as you can. It takes up a fraction of the storage space AND it's 100x's more nutritious than canned. The canned fruit has been cooked to death & then soaked in high fructose corn syrup. For all canned products they tend to start with the older/poorer quality produce as well.

Excellent planning. One important point to emphasize, be sure to rotate stock. Whenever you go shopping for the stuff you use daily, put THOSE items in storage and take something from the shelf. This keeps the expiration dates in check. It's also a good idea to move the shelves away from the wall so you can put the new stuff in back and use the older stuff from the front.

Bear in mind that he has children, and the snacks will help to keep them calm and happy in a scary situation. I noticed your bags of flour and rice on the shelf......I highly reccomend that you get large mylar bags and pour the flour/rice in them, and seal up with oxygen absorbers. Or, you can just use food grade 5 gallon buckets with a good sealing top, and add oxygen absorbers. I was lazy and did not get around to doing one 25lb bag of flour and in a few months it got clumpy from the little humidity in my cool storage area. Also had salt containers get hard.

good vid. I buy a couple mini propane bottles every month for my camp stove. in a disaster situation, gas lines(as well as elec.) will likely be shut down. those little propane bottles last quite a while and sometimes sporting goods stores have them on sale.

That stuff will eventually go bad, yes. Most canned goods are good for two or three years. The goal of food storage like what you see in this video is to simply be prepared. The key is to store what you normally eat, and rotate it out over time, or donate annually to a food bank prior to reaching the expiration date! If you store a year worth of food, don't you guys think it would come in handy if:
- Hurricane with extended power & fuel outages
- Ice storm
- Job Loss

@37dls i have opened tins 10 years past best date that have been ok or at least tasted ok and not made me ill...once i even opened a 22 year past sell buy date Christmas pudding at a dead old woman's house clearance that looked and smelled as good as the day it was made when i opened it.. i didnt eat it but it looked and smelled great

Actually Christmas cake can go decades, my grandmother wouldn't let us eat hers until it was over 5 years old min.
I remember stories of 15 year old cake when I was a kid, and this was home made with no preservatives.
Never ate a store bought on though....

@Cathianne1 There is a concept that you should familiarize your self with, we call it "36 hours 'till animal." It is to remind us that a human, when deprived of water or food for 36 ours they become an animal. You should not ignore this truth and don't think that you are above it. Personally I would rather wait out a disaster in my basement eating spaghettios than have to live with the things I would otherwise do in an "animal" state of mind.

Food hoarding makes sense but, keep in mind, you don't want EVERYONE around you knowing you have a stash.
If things go south, not only will people want you to share your stash, if things get bad enough, people will kill you for what you have and they don't have.
Just the nature of the beast.
So try to stay thin and at least look famished if o-boy-ma stays in longer.
