@Yooniverzal The color grading I did was definitely dramatic, I am sure that if I had a camera with a better dynamic range then the result would look much more appealing. The footage I had was shot on a consumer camera, my editing capabilities were quite limited. Still though, this was just practice, and I've improved since this video was done.
hello nyvs, i got a big problem regarding my videos. always when i export my video with e.g. 10 mbits/s, my video looks washed out. what should i do in order to keep my colors alive? i now added a gamma shift set to 1,10. is this smart? thanks a lot, philippe
@PhilippeFreestyle I would export the video at a higher bit rate if possible, maybe 15mbits/s or a little more. Play around with the compressions as well, some types of compression will negatively impact color output.
@soundkick Every clip has a unique color correct filter even they all have the same color scheme, different clips have different adjustment requirements. I copy the filter I applied in one clip to the next one and customize it to fit that clip.
@1994JamesBond I used the limit effect and selected the sky, then darkened/ colored it. For the rest I just added contrast and gave the footage a green coloring.
It took some work, but after using the limit effect in final cut pro, I darkened the sky and colorized it, and gave the rest of the footage a gritty greenish color by adjusting the sliders in the three-way color correction filter. I had to darken the blacks and lighten the whites to add contrast, and I lightened the mids to give the footage more brightness.
@gberthume At the time I was working on a lower-end macbook, color did not support its graphics card, I had to resort to Final Cut. I was aware of this before I purchased the software though; a few months later I purchased my new iMac
@chaotictax Very impressive grading for using Final Cut's built in color correction....
By the way, I am a fairly accomplished musician, and an amateur film composer, so I would love to score any shorts/films that you produce, I have Logic Pro and Symphony orchestra instruments, so I can produce fully-orchestrated digital scores for your films, if your interested. I have done 4 shorts, and one 30-minute feature. If your interested, I'll sned you my email address via youtube mail. :)

how did you separately select the sky?
southpaw1991 1 year ago
@southpaw1991 I used the "limit effect" tool to select the white sky, then darkened and added color to it by adjusting the sliders.

is it better to correct each clip once at a time or put all the scenes together and then correct the color all at once?

LOTS and lots of filters, I'm working on a more in-depth tutorial, subscribe and you'll be one of the first to know :)
If you want a quick list then here...
Three way color-corrector...
Darkened blacks
Lightened mids
Lightened highlights
Shifted Mids slider towards green
Shifted highlights towards orange
Used "limit effect" to darken the sky by limiting the range to that specific luma, then colored it an orangey color.
MUCH, much more, but too many to write
