I also like Nour but find that she has the usual non-native barriers : yes, she is playing with some emotions but unable to play drama for example. And the key word is that she is "playing" and not showing natural emotions...
Actually her fame is well deserved. It didn't happen overnight and she worked hard for it. She's an actress and has starred in films, soap operas, stage plays etc.. she's also well educated(masters in philosophy), so her talents and qualifications consist of more than just moving her body. She's not just a dancer, but a talented artist and entertainer.
I understand what you're saying. I never said that native automatically equals better, I'm still trying to answer your question to why she is famous because it seems to me like you don't get it, either that or you're pretending that you don't. Obviously you dislike Dina and like better the way Nour dances/emotes and that's your right. But there's this preconception that exist amongst most Egyptians that Russian dancers in general are cold and lack emotion.
No matter how hard she tries they'll be thinking in their heads "she just doesn't get it". They prefer the balady. Because to them that is the REAL thing, the Russian import is not. There is a language and cultural barrier, you need to cross that barrier first to understand why they think this way.
As for Nour "knowing the song's lyrics", so does Dina. She doesn't need translation since its her mother tongue, and she's familiar with all the folkloric songs she dances to from her childhood as her familly originally is from upper Egypt.
You probably don't know this, but there's a very famous slang phrase Egyptians use as a reaction when they see foreign dancers, they say "el baladi yokal" meaning "balady wins". But usually they are polite and don't say this to someone's face.
I'm going to say that Nour is definately one of the best Russian belly dancers out there, she's not vulgar and she dances good. But she still doesn't compare to Egyptians, no way!
Where in my comment did I imply that celebrity status=talent?! You asked why she's famous, and I answered. As for Egyptian feeling "whatever that is" let me tell you that it's everything. A moving body without soul, no matter how beautiful and elegant, is not enough in Egyptian dance. Dina gets 5 stars since she was born to the culture and she's an actress too so she can get very emotional.
Nour is a good dancer BUT 1) She doesn't have her own style. Dina's style is very innovative and she has contributed something new to Egyptian dance. 2)Nour lacks the Egyptian feeling. It is almost impossible to understand this if you don't belong to that culture.
3)Dina is an entertainer. She can sing, dance, she does soap operas and KNOWS how to interact with an audience. A good dancer will become known in the dance world. But it takes alot more to reach Dina's celebrity status. She has that crazy Egyptian sense of humor which even the dancers from neighboring Arab countries lack, let alone a Russian born dancer.

Anyway I don't understand your point of comparing a Russian dancer to a native. In the end this IS an Egyptian cultural dance, right?
