  • My gage does this, but the action is reversed! When i accelerate forward, the pressure rises; when I reverse or sit, the pressure drops. What do you mean by "knocking?"

  • So if it is covered in oil it's because the sending unit is leaking. I'm in California and paid $61.96 out the door from Jeep. Do not buy an aftermarket one heard too many bad things about them. If you do it yourself take off the oil filter and make sure you have a 27mm deep socket to remove the sensor. good luck guys

  • @ BRogers84 & Starbuds420, Mine did the same thing 2 days ago. The oil; pressure sending unit was leaking where they glue the electrical connector to the brass fitting. Good way to find out if urs is leaking is to see if your Oil filter has oil on it. The sensor is right above the oil filter

  • I have the same problem as starbud. Have u done anything to try and fix it?

  • My 2000 Jeep Cherokee Laredo V6 is doing the exact opposite. Drops when idleing and raises back up during acceleration ... Think mines the same problem? No engine sounds, seems to be driving just fine.

  • @Starbuds420 Our 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee is doing the exact same as yours. Just yesterday I heard a "ding" to alert me to check the console; only then did I see "check gauges" lit up and recognized the pressure registered "zero" when idling at a stop sign. Am taking it in on Friday for a diagnosis check. The mechanic guessed it was most likely the oil sensor, but after reading these posts, I'm wondering about it all. Do you have any updates since your post?

  • @victoriouswarrior78 It was the oil pressure sensor. You can get the part and replace it easy if you know where its at and what you are doing. I just dropped mine off and got it replace plus a complete oil change for 170$ if you wanna know what your lookin at.

  • @Starbuds420 this is what mine is doing, but it's a 2000 4.7L v8 just like the video. Any luck with yours?

  • @koabal85 Yes, it was my oil pressure sensor.

  • how did you kno that it was the sensor..? wouldnt you have assumed it were the pump..?

  • @bose3207 If it was the oil pump the engine would have been knocking and eventually blow up, but it ran perfect so i knew it was the oil pressure sensor.

  • @3gencamaroguy thanks alot man... in process of changing my oil pump

  • @jr19711 we have 3 of these jeeps in the family, they have been very good vehicles, although the front power windows regulators went on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee but i got 2 new ones off ebay for $70 shipped. They have been very reliable comfortable powerfull jeeps.

  • i had the same problem, the chrysler sending unit fixed the problem.

  • Would love to know if the official Chrysler sending unit fixed the problem

I have switched the sending unit out twice and flushed the galley ( got oil everywhere ) multiple times.. But I am still having this issue. Did anyone know if the actual Chrysler sending unit works?

  • @NephilimLS1 Yes, the Chrysler sending unit fixed the problem, after market sending units do not work. read the description box and other comments, they will also answer you question. take care.

  • I fixed mine! Just like you said - changed the crappy aftermarket sender with a factory unit and magically...it works perfectly! I guess sometimes its worth the difference - however thsi time there really wasn't much of a price difference! Thanks for your video post as it helped me get my problem fixed!

  • It's wiring or the connector on the sender. I've repaired this issue on vehicles before. The G-Force is making it go Non-Comm

  • @Baltow00f or the torquing of the engine

  • @Baltow00f what did you do to fix the problem?

  • @3gencamaroguy It was a bad connection in the harness. Used a mulex extractor and replaced the pin. Find the intermittent connection.

  • @Baltow00f i changed the oil pressure sensor and it fixed the problem, thanks for the input.

  • These motors were known for a design flaw causing the heads to cook oil and create sludge, plugging the passages, filter, screen, etc. I would pull the valve covers off and inspect the valvetrain for sludge. Seafoam treatment might help. Hopefully the knock doesn't mean too much damage.

  • @mtnman1984 the engine doesn't have a knock, it runs perfect. even when the oil pressure gauge reads 0, hooked up a mechanical oil pressure guage and it reads perfect oil pressure. Its ether the oil pressure swich or faulty wireing.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't think its the gauge. The BCM transfers information via the CAN-BUS system and is relaying information from the sender. I don't think its the BCM, so that only leaves wiring or the sender itself. I will let you know if the factory sender fixes the issue. The problem does diminish after a while. I did some testing on the weekend, and it seems when the vehicle is 1500-2500rpm it drops, but when you release the gas pedal the gauges goes back up. The motor is perfectly quiet. Frustrating.

  • @mpdiecast hello agian, i just picked up a factory oil pressure swich from chrysler for $50, i am going to install it the next time i do the oil change. I hope this fixes the problem.

  • @mpdiecast i installed the chrysler sending unit today and it seemed to fix the problem. I hope this works for you. take care.

  • @3gencamaroguy Excellent! I am going to try that too. I just haven't had a chance to do it yet...Post if anything changes..and thanks for updating.

  • @mpdiecast no problem man, the oil pressure gauge is working perfectly :)

  • I have the EXACT same problem. 2000 Jeep GC 4.7L. The sender was seeping through the connector. Changed sender. Still there. Swapped out another sender. Still there. Cleaned connector again. Still there. Checked oil pressure with a mechanical gauge - pressure OK. Searched on the internet..no solution other than people say use a genuine Chrysler sender only...I may try that..it's annoying.

  • @mpdiecast hmmm, do you think it could be the gauge acting up? if the factory Chrysler sender does not work then it must be the gauge. does it go away after a while? Message me back if the chrysler factory sensor fixes the problem. thank you.
