Brice told his team of climbers to climb past David Sharp, but in 2001 two members of one of Brices own expidition had to be rescued from a higher point on the mountain at the 3rd step. And 1 week later an Australian climber was rescued from the same spot that David Sharp was left to die.
Anyone who plans to climb Everest does so in the full knowledge that it's entirely possible they might die in the process. The people you refer to who were rescued were incredibly fortunate no doubt, but without knowing the conditions, or the severity of their need for rescue you can't possibly compare them with David Sharpe. It's a tragedy that David died, but it was a risk he accepted when he set out to summit.
On a different day, and under different conditions David may never have been in the position he found himself in. Maybe it would have been possible for someone to attempt a rescue - it's something we're unlikely to ever know. From what i've seen and read, there's no way anyone from Russell's team could have saved him. I'm sure that's something he regrets daily - have you looked at how many friends/colleagues he has lost over the course of his life? It's a risk you take IMO.
@kelvinpapp I agree that everyone knows the risks, and poor David was perhaps foolish making an attemp for the summit as late as he did, and yes the conditions were very severe. But "if only" they had stopped long enough to wait for the parties following, then perhaps a combined effort of 40 climbers could have got David off. Brices' team seemed more concerned about getting a disabled climber on the summit and gaining huge publicity for his own companys expiditions than attempting a rescue.....
@kelvinpapp (cont..) this is my own oppinion, and I know that not all of the party were happy to climb on. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I suspect that should the same thing happen again they may choose differently, afterall Everest will be there for a long time, but poor David has just one chance. My own concience would not let me leave him and that's why I struggle to understand how they could. Would David have made it off? he made it 8hrs after they saw him. Saddest Everest story ever!

@hthedog I think that's unfair.
