My favourite genre is jazz, my favourite band The Doors, neither has anything to do with Procol Harum....but Whiter Shade Of Pale is my favourite song for ever and ever. Beautiful.
Otra de las mejores canciones del siglo 20th. con las cuales me deleitaba en mi adolescencia, y estoy muy orgulloso de pertenecer a esa generación, aunque ahora sea un viejo para algunos.

@ToneDeafecation Love the crack about the G string. And yes I agree it is a great song, just the fact that we are listening to it nearly half a century later proves that. Even if we are getting too old to appreciate the G string.
@petersuperstar1 ...That other tune is of course the well known...Hair on a G string(great for flossing)..which we'll only stop appreciating when we die.
I seriously love this song. Its possibly the best I've come in contact with. Mum and I used to sing this in the car on the way to school, then we stopped... I read the perks of being a wallflower, and my love for this came back.
Hello Frankie, you have my respect, any Service man and use women have my respect. Hope you have a long life, but if you had too go from hear couldnt have picked a better song to go out with.x

@gimmigiois..Hey Lorenzo..deep question..not enough room to answer here. But consider the poetry of the times and the psychic waters into which it was born. The biggest drug was freedom (along with all the other good stuff). I see a parallel with S.T.Coleridges"Rime of the Ancient Mariner" (opium-induced?) mythology and allegory of its times, just like"Whiter Shade of Pale". Study of one could lead to understanding of the other.
I've just come back from Menorca where a 3 piece band & singer made a reasonable fist of it, they didn't try to match the original just played it straight, good enough to remind you that you hadn't heard it in a while.
I was 9 when this was first released I can remember waiting for a bus back from the beach with my Mum, brother &sister late on a sunday afternoon just a great chill out song.
@cloudjia Since you seem to be so stuck on peace, here is a song of ultimate peace, which I am sure you have heard many times. I am hooked on it right now and my day starts with this anthem everyday.
Of all the millions of songs ever written or going to be written, this and Moody Blues' Whiter Shades of Pale are the best. Yes, not excluding the Beatles and Elvis, though it is hard to say it.
I want to thank cloudjia, mags981, lkirsner, and others. I am 36, and listened to music of the 50's and 60's with my sister. Maybe it was because my parents listened to this music, or maybe it was becuase this music has a universal appeal, I dont know; either way, I am endeared to it. Some times I wish life could go back to the way it was "before". I am jealous of the 60's generation. You lived life so full, had so much hope, so much energy...we have nothing but parady and cynisim.I feel cheated
Oh Grandma's I am right with you with the memories and the peace we so hoped for. How we protested against the war and how the vets coming home thought we were protesting against them. How sad it was they didn't understand how much we loved them and wanted them home and safe. Here we are once again, praying for our troops and wishing peace that never came. I remember where I was, what I was doing. This is my all time favorite song.
For a song that remains as fresh as it was played the first time...it must reach and capture the soul of the listener, this song does it and does it well, truly an evergreen!
I went to a concert in the park last night and they played this.........did a journyman like job. Man did the memories of my youth come flooding back.
@cloudjia Hi! Absolutely nothing you wrote was boring, actually I loved your story . You really helped me to remember the date, because I fell in love with this song when I was in my teens, as soon as it hit the charts. I traveled a lot back then, as this one special tune and in particular, became a universal favorite...cool way of meeting other fellow travelers too, over a great song! Thanks so much for the memories...music is magic!
this songs makes me wish i was born in a different time....my parents grew up during the 60s and for some reason i feel a strong connection with this song especially... when I hear this song I certainly "turn a whiter shade of pale". Thanks Mom and Dad.
My favourite genre is jazz, my favourite band The Doors, neither has anything to do with Procol Harum....but Whiter Shade Of Pale is my favourite song for ever and ever. Beautiful.

For some odd reason, when I was a very young child (I was born in Jan. 1967 - only a few short months before this song was released) I always felt like crying when I heard this song on the radio. It always sounded so sad to me, almost as if it were part of some kind of memorial service. Maybe because the organ gives it such a majestic religiosity. A song one doesn't easily forget, unlike what is rammed down people's throats nowadays!!

the French love this...they almost ruined a summer holiday of mine by wearing it out in every available juke box... despite the the fact none of 'em understood a damn word of the song... but neither did any native English speaker! Still don't...

@cloudjia Good Lord, Has dementia set it? God forbid! You are damn right it was Nights in White Satin. Well, I am 60 too.
As for Elvis, I have named my son after him. I daresay Elvis was and still is part of me.
Nice to meet someone with the same thoughts that I have

If music be the food of love
then laughter is its queen
and likewise if behind is in front
then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
and attacked the ocean bed

@cloudjia Hi! Absolutely nothing you wrote was boring, actually I loved your story . You really helped me to remember the date, because I fell in love with this song when I was in my teens, as soon as it hit the charts. I traveled a lot back then, as this one special tune and in particular, became a universal favorite...cool way of meeting other fellow travelers too, over a great song! Thanks so much for the memories...music is magic!
