These pools will attract water insects, many species of frog, and turtles, all good signs of a healthy ecosystem. And you may see a snake hidden in the boulders, depending on where you live, although it's rare.
I love native plants and the pretty columbine, black-eyed Susan and echinacea made my day. Lovely pool. I think I need a special permit to build a "pool" in my area, but I"m going to try to get away with one. I'm starting on a pond first. I guess the only hazard would be possible bacterial buildup... I think you only need calculus in order to create the pool. I think anyone can make one, at least a shallow one...As long as the "filter" area is constructed properly and there's a pump.
We are a group of aquatic biologists for those in North America interested in swimming pondswith beaches & streams that look like actual natural ponds and lakes.
Just have to say, that looks marvellous. We're in Nova Scotia, and I'm considering doing something similar (though admittedly on a smaller scale). Our soil is dense clay, and we have lots of rainfall. Do you think I might be able to do without a liner?
for the person who said it did not look clean: it is sad that we are so divorced for nature that a clear - living body of water looks dirty to some of us!
Ive been in the swimming pool business for over 35 yrs-This is an upcoming thing-And it appears that the Romans probably used the same system to "sanitize" their pools 2500 yrs ago- So stick to your guns- It looks good to me and better than the salt sanitizing systems-polluting our streams with salt backwash-lol
@NicaKrnKid Yes, they are very clean. Nature does all the work, no chlorine or other chemicals. Natural plant filtration, bacteria, and other wildlife.
@NicaKrnKid Nothing gross about it. What's gross is dosing your water with chlorine and other harmful chemicals and then immersing yourself in it. That's far more disgusting than swimming in naturally cleaned water. It's both cleaner and safer than conventional pools full of poison. Funny this reality has taught you that swimming in NATURAL water is gross, but bathing in a chemical soup is OK. Wow.
@NicaKrnKid I've swam in all kinds of things, but what does that have to do with anything? Natural swimming pools are clean, safe alternatives to swimming in chemical soup. If you're not convinced, keep swimming in the chemical soup. You don't need to worry about chlorine, it's in your drinking water too, along with fluoride and all kinds of pharmaceuticals. Your masters know best, the chemical soup is good for you. Carry on.
@NicaKrnKid Yes, that is in SOME regular ponds. This is not a regular pond, it's a natural swimming pond. It is aerated, circulated, and filtered. The only thing in a natural swimming pond is harmless good bacteria. I know you don't understand nature's balance, or even understand nature at all because of your programming. I'm not trying to change your mind. Swim in the chlorine.
@NicaKrnKid Depends on the pond. Some ponds are more like puddles. Poorly aerated, full of bad bacteria and algae. Some are well aerated or have live water, good plant life for filtration, and can be much cleaner.
@NicaKrnKid Nature doesn't care about clean water? What the fuck are you talking about? Your the idiot asking all the questions reserved for three year old children, and you're telling ME I don't understand nature? Get the fuck out of here, you fucking moron. Go beat your stupid head against the fucking wall somewhere. Play in traffic. Lick a light socket or something you insolent fool.
@NicaKrnKid It's kind of hard to insult the stupid, because they don't understand what you're saying to them anyway. Who said nature wants to keep algae out of anything? That's a mighty odd twist on my words, now isn't it? What doesn't make sense is your ignorance. You don't like natural swimming ponds? Fine and dandy. Move on down the road. Go gargle your chlorine...
@NicaKrnKid Wrong again, smart ass. Nature does have ponds with constant flowing water, filtration plants, etc. In those environments, algae and bad bacteria are kept in check by aeration, filtration, and dissolved oxygen. There are two kinds of environments. Aerobic, and anaerobic. Aerobic environments with good filter plants (like cat tails around many ponds) equals clean safe water. Nature has plenty of it. Nature also has very dirty water with the bad stuff in it. Learn some biology kid.
@NicaKrnKid Then what the fuck is your complaint, pee wee? What the hell is your argument with a natural swimming pond? Either google your questions or make a fucking point and be done with it. Damn, what planet are you from?
@NicaKrnKid Well, that's all fine and dandy that you want to "think" this or that. The problem is, what you "think" and the facts are two different things, and you'll just have to learn to deal with it. I bet you "think" you are evolved swimming in your chemical soup, but what you "think" and what is true will never jive.
Wow! This is just unbelievably inspiring! Thanks for this!

What kind of "critters" does the pool attract? I don't mind some, but snakes are a no go for me.

We have great places to swim in Grey and Bruce County, Ontario also. COme check out our videos of the area around Sauble Beach!

@Llyranon
Liner is still a good idea. It's relatively inexpensive and will help keep your water levels consistent.
