My brother had a kenner star wars toy that we kept in almost perfect condition all these years.... and then my mom's dog chewed on it. it's missing a leg now. FML
I think it's funny how they had to get a girl - the only girl seen in Star Wars commercials - to play as Princess Leia. In the real world, some poor chump male friend had to play her, and there was always the "You play her. No, YOU play her!" arguments.
@hannable70 I totally understand this senario, that is why all of us who collected these figures and brought them to school would just show her, then put her away in the ol' lunch box! Unfortunately she lost her head, in my collection, so mad at myself for being that way!LOL!
@deduero LOL! My Princess Leia met her demise between the slavering jaws of my dog. Nom nom nom. I lost a few Star Wars figures that way, as well as the entire Death Star action play set. He tore the whole thing to shreds and was shitting garbage compactor foam for a week. The only part he couldn't chew was the big laser cannon, so I found that intact amid a pile of rubble. True story.
@hannable70 Lol!!!!!!!!!! I think a lot of us have the same "man's best friend, but voracious killer to children's toy collection" stories to share. My Chewie, was chewed and the ends of my Tie-fighters guns gone!!!! OH, and Obie-one, couldn't stop this furry creature from taking him down! Ofcourse my mom told me "let that be a lesson, quite leaving your toys laying around!!! Oh thanks MOM!!!! Bless her soul, LOL!!!! Thanks for sharing your laughs with me!
@deduero Haha, I think it's funny that your Chewie was chewed. Kind of ironic there. Fortunately I couldn't get the "leaving toys lying around" lesson because the Death Star play set was in the garage - exactly where I was told to put it, and also where the dog was kept when we went out. Wasn't my fault! Dogs and toys do not mix, especially plastic ones that dogs can really sink their teeth into. I think my toy collection better served as our dog's dental records.
@hannable70 LOL!! It just kills me though, how much money went out the door for our plastic toys! Or should I say our dogs toy collection? Crazy isn't? Your right, you were told to leave yours in the lions den, definetly not your fault. I recently drove by a garage sale and this guy had a huge collection of Star Wars, (newer stuff) and all the promos as well from Burger King and such. I picked up a few, that a friend of mine and I used to talk about, and gave it to him for his birthday, cool, cool
@ LJK193 Yep, I remember the theme for these commercials when I was 5 years old. They were using that commercial theme up until ROTJ was released, and then they began using the actual theme w/ the ROTJ action figures. It probably had something to do w/ theme music licensing and getting permission from Sir John Williams.
im 14 and i still play with them :P toys back then seemed more fun... :\ now there eather have a HUGE gun that shoots some rocket or they are just plain stupid. i like gijoe also XD
"was that a girl playing with star wars action figures?"
You never had girls play Star Wars with you?
You sheltered, deprived boy. I had plenty of Star Wars lovin' girl pals. And they didn't HAVE to play with Leia either, like this stereotypical unreal girl in this commercial.
Yeah I agree. I am a girl and I loved playing with one of my best friends who was a boy and I didn't play with Leia either! I played with my own figures which included C-3P0, R2-D2, Luke and a Stormtrooper! In fact, I never even owned a LEIA!
Another Star Wars girl here--luckily, my friend had all the action figures! I wonder how many got accidentally left in a woodpile or the heating vent . . . Good times.

it's reaaly sucky, those toys' articulation only their arms, legs move up and down, and this KENNER?!?!?!?!?!?! hasbro has givin every figure awesome articulation, better than this KENNER tm could ever do!! >:D
Yesh, it was almost three decades ago! You're only betraying your youthful spoiledness of modern production standards.
We were not only grateful for these figures, but were perfectly happy with cutting windows out of a cardboard box and calling it the Falcon.
The issue isn't Kenner, it's what wasn't possible yet. In fact, Kenner deserves praise for having the vision to buy the license to SW when other's didn't, and held it until Hasbro saw Kenner's value and bought them.
Well, either way. Kenner was a taker on Star Wars. There were many other toy companies that didn't have the vision and see the promise in Star Wars. In effect, Kenner invested in Star Wars. How can that not be praiseworthy? Kenner was in our corner as Star Wars fans before we even knew it.
Such shallow complaints like fedsre's is in the face of such obvious reasons to be grateful for what we had.
Cool, never knew that. I LOVED those Mego action figures back then. I had the Star Trek set and figures and many of the superheros. It was a neat scale and quality, I thought.
I remember hearing something about their debating the scale of the figures and decided on the 6" standard so they could fit inside of affordable sized vehicles. That would not have been possible with the Mego sized ones.
A company has, over the last year or two, re-released all of the Mego Trek line, including the hard to find aliens....they've even done a Sulu and Chekov, which Mego never produced...and a cool new Gorn, and a Khan figure! They box art on the new figures was even done by the original Mego artist...they are pretty cool...Planet of the Apes retro figures are on the way!
C'mon... they're toys, not gold bonds or Google stocks, and made to be played with; never opening the box/case/whatever is like buying a five-course meal and only eating the bread! Then again, I'm not one of the near-millions with devalued unopened toys; didn't they teach you about supply and demand?
Hey kids, we won't make a real Cloud City play set, so you're going to have to cut up some shoe box you stole from your mother's closet. Hope your parents have fun buying you brats ANOTHER version of C3-PO, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. Ha ha. Suckers.

As a joke, they wrapped it that Xmas and finally gave it to him. He turned around and sold it on eBay for like $5000 or something. I might have thought about keeping it, but hey, thats nice dough.
