Yeah Twink never does any work just bosses the others and complains that they don' t do any work then he gets to go with Rainbow on her missions and do nothing but go along for the ride--that's a vacation! Pissed me off the way he treated Sunriser. I still love RB!
When I was 5, my mom wouldn't let me name my cat Starlight. I always thought it was because it was too girly for a male cat, but I realize now it's because Starlight is FUCKING ANNOYING.
aha im 14 and this show never gets old xD i havnt watch it since i was like 4 maybe lol but my little couzin loves it he says he wants t marry rainbow brite and go to rainbow land insearch of santa clause xxD :)
It's obvious that she thinks she's a destined Kalki. She's distorted the story for her benefit then added a bunch of color in and perky dialogue to offset her spoiled nature. She could get off that horse and help the little people instead of prancing around like she's actually doing something and making them serve her so in her light. The bad guy never professes to be bad in real life, so she's using the ole' evil argument to justify her selfish cause as well. She's good next to bad.
@returnoftheramble That's an interesting argument, but the thing about the show is that the universe needs colors. Rainbow Brite just happens to be spreading the color everywhere, and the sprites actually enjoy what they're doing. If anything, Twink and Starlight are the real jerks here. Twink just bosses everyone and Starlight is very arrogant. What am I doing? I should be enjoying the show! Not get too technical!! :)
Starlight, or whatever the horse's name is, is SO egotistical in ALL episodes. "There is no horse greater looking, faster, charming..." geez. I never noticed that when I was a kid.

People, it's just a cartoon. All this socialism talk makes me tired. If you want a soliloquy on socialism just listen to Barack speak. He's got a plan for you! A real change to socialism! Leave Miss Rainbow Brite out of it!
woah mastmedia! way to suck the innocence out of a classic saturday morning cartoon! your life must really be gray and depressing.

That doesn't mean I have to be ignorant out everything you see or enjoy. Nor do I have to be oblivious about the hidden messages of imperialism in western cartoons. They've always been there.
Bugs Bunny was just a cartoon, but if you look at old cartoons Bugs was quite a bigot before he teamed up with Michael Jordan in Space Jam (which was a cute movie for kids).
It's kind of ironic. The sprites are kinda like Rainbow Brite's underpaid slaves and so were then Asian animators who worked on this cartoon.
I love Rainbow Brite but this cartoon subconciously desincitizes young kids to work exploitation and makes it acceptable. That's older Americans become submissive to their companies when they become old enough to work.
It's kind of sad that entertaiment is used this way (without children or parents realizing it).
butheadVSbevus, the truth is just the truth. You can deny it, but most Americans pretend to brave, believe in a social order and most can even stand up to their boss. The boss is always the good guy because he makes the money.
But at least, one good thing is that Rainbow Brite wasn't a victim and showed a capable girl who didn't need a man to help solve her problems. Even if, techincally, she was a benevolent overseer.
Your an idiot. Facts are facts and that's all I'm saying. The whole purpose of network kids tv in the 80's were to sell toys and generate sponsorship dollars. In the 70's they saw great potential for sales in the children's market and commissoned these cartoons.
Even in the 20's, the government commissioned artist and cartoonist to campaign against jazz music because it was the devils music. I love Rainbow Brite and the 80's, but most of these shows had bias symbolisms of the Regan Era.
Not to mention, but has anyone besides me ever noticed that all of the "colored" star sprites are forced to work in the color caves while the "white" star sprite barks orders at them while never picking up a tool or pick himself?
It's based upon the western view of entitledment like the Medieval fuedal systems where the serfs worked the land and all their efforts and were given to the noblemen and the royal family in the castle.
It was actually a template for the social system of American were corporations underpay workers and and executives enjoy the fruits of their labor. A modern version of polite servitude.
I'm proboably going feel stupid after I say this but I think there might be some subtle hints at socalism too. Look at the way all the sprites have the same dwelling and even the color kids have the same kind of room. Except for Rainbow, everyone is equal and equaly working twords the same goal (to make rainbow sprinkles). I don't know, maybe I'm just thinking too hard cuase I ahve a cultural anthropolgy exam in 2 hours.
As an artist, all art is a form of subconscious expression. It's generally a reflection of a time or the environment.
Aside from GI Joe, Silverhawks and He-Man, Rainbow Brite was a show that heavily inspired me as a child. I really did find it facinating. You can really see the influence of ancient mythology and the post punk era.
But like the corporate environment of that time, the working man was expendable. Notice the sprites have no personalities.
I don't know, I think Rainbow Brite is clearly an imperialist. In the "origin" episode she comes to Rainbowland, overthrows the government, and colonizes the planet, enslaving the little furry creatures to do her bidding.
Twink has sold out his fellow workers, and he gets to assist Rainbow Brite because he alone speaks the language of the ruling class.
I'm sorry to say, because I know the truth is offensive to most, but Rainbow Brite, the thirteen episode series (not the specials or the movie) were animated by some of the least skilled and cheaper South Asian studios. Might Monstromurk Menace was US animated but looked absolutely horrendous.
We really should humble ourselves and give more credit to the countries that actually help flesh our ideas and, in most cases, to all the work. American pride is one thing. Hubris is another.
Even Disney television shows (like DuckTales)were animated by it's Thailand division. The second season was actually US animated and that's why the quality was so crappy. Disney saved its good animators for its feature films. Outsourcing of animation was custom in the 80's because there was more integrity in the work. I actually think collaborative efforts yeild better results anyway. American companies simply used corporate money to "buy" talent and the result was the 1980's thirty minute ads.
Hello!! Do you have the episode number 12 of Rainbow Brite? The name is "A Horse of a different color", I also need the episode 5 "The Mighty Monstomurk menace Part 2". Thank You for your videos!!!!
Rainbow Brite is NOT an anime, it is an animation that was owned and creaed by Hallmark, you know, the ones who make the greeting cards. And given that Hallmark is an American owned company, Rinbow Brite is 100% USA Made and not anime either, it was one out of a few shows that Hallmark made back in the day.
Sorry, TheLostLenor. Like most cartoons in the 80's, very few were 100% American. Hallmark contracted Jean Chalopin (a french producer and writer) to come up with the concept. Look at the credits. Chalopin came up with many other concepts like Popples, and Wheeled warriors. Americans did the character design and he did the story and most of the animation (like most American cartoons of that era) was done in Southeast Asia because it was cheaper (to outsource) and you got better quality.

Yeah, we got Rainbow White making the colored people being slaves in the mines, while the white people are doing nothing at all. Looks like a racist cartoon to me. Nah, That was just a joke. I'm a white guy. Actually I secretly had a crush on her when I was a kid and never got over it.
that, just might be, the greatest YOUTUBE comment ever, me and my best friend almost DIED laughing at that. I have a weirder crush...You know the Wrestler the UnderTaker....yep, that might be weirder than the rainbow brite...well, at least i have a chance lmao jk :]
I bet if the goverment had such a hard time with spongebob they would have lost their Sh*t over Starlight. He's the gayest creature in cartoon history. Second to that Pink Panther from Hanna Barbara
Everyone loves spongebob. It's just that big thing about the cartoon promoting tolerance of homosexuality or something. Heavens forbid impressionable children should learn tolerance in spite of one anothers differences...what is this world coming to?
Oh yes, now I see what your talking about. How they are saying he is gay and loves Patrick and everything. :( But they are half right there, the show does have it's dirty thoughts that only adults and teenagers can figure out....
don't many children shows have something similar to this situation anyways? like some children's shows i have watched in the past seem so ackward now because we can understand and comprehend it a whole lot better. :P
what the hell is with the top rated comment?!! why would people think that, that looked up this show on youtube?!!

JDavis1982 5 years ago
hey I love Spongebob! I'm one of that shows biggest fans!
Kittylover9393 5 years ago
Everyone loves spongebob. It's just that big thing about the cartoon promoting tolerance of homosexuality or something. Heavens forbid impressionable children should learn tolerance in spite of one anothers differences...what is this world coming to?
JDavis1982 5 years ago
Oh yes, now I see what your talking about. How they are saying he is gay and loves Patrick and everything. :( But they are half right there, the show does have it's dirty thoughts that only adults and teenagers can figure out....
Kittylover9393 5 years ago
don't many children shows have something similar to this situation anyways? like some children's shows i have watched in the past seem so ackward now because we can understand and comprehend it a whole lot better. :P
