I bought mine in 2004 from an Indian company, and it was the best purchase I've ever made. I was hesistant as many are, but was absolutely desperate for relief. The technique shown here and most others is what's called Stage 1, but there's a Stage 2 technique which thoroughly cleans the sinuses, which you draw the water into your mouth (is shown on the DVD that comes with the pot), which gets everything out and the relief is enormous. Then you blow your nose very gently to get the water out.
You can use canning/pickling salt or even rock salt that is ground very fine (I use a morter and pestle + tea strainer). The salt used simply needs to be pure salt (table salt generally contains idodine and anti-clumping agents). A good recipe is 1/2 tsp salt + 1/4 baking soda + warm water-- it really saves money to make your own neti pot 'salt'. :-)
I recently had a septoplasty to fix my deviated septim and have had serious inflammation and stuffed up nostrils since the procedure. Going to try one of these tomorrow for some relief until the process heals up, and probably after because I have the same issues as you.
hi, this is just a tip that i've come across, but I've read that it's important to blow your nose extremely gently after using the neti pot. The way you're doing it in this video may actually cause more sinus irritation. It's one of the most common mistakes.
I tried this out and i am absolutely impressed with how well this works! for the first time in my life I was able to breathe easily through my nose without any straining loud noise. :D
That happens when you first start using the neti pot. Especially if you're totally stuffed up from alergies or if you're sick. Best way to do this is in the shower. Try it three or four times in a HOT shower. The steam will help loosen up the boogers :) Trust me, i totally had the same thing happen to me the first time i used it. :)
I need someones help! i used a neti pot in my right nostril and after 10 or so seconds and it only dripped out of my left nostril. it felt like the water was stuck in my right nostril so i stopped. keeping my head in the titlted position i blew out gently. i dont know why he exhales hard, all the instructions say that that is bad and can give you ear infections, but i feel like i might have one????
my mom is getting me a neti pot today! im sick and my nose is stuffy so she showed my it online and i thought i might try it out... YAY SHE IS HERE AND SHE SAID SHE HAS IT GTG!
I just realized I was tipping my head with you as you poured xD I just bought one and am kind of nervous to use it but this made me laugh so I'm a little less tense now so thanks!!
I have to say I lived with congestion for years and years and finally went to an ENT (Ear Nose Throat) specialist. Diagnosis? Polyps is my sinuses - very badly. So, if you can afford it or got insurance, by all means, check it out. You'll feel 150% better. You'll also want to visit an allergist to make sure you're not allergic to anything that would make those polyps worse.
okay. i have got to tell you. if you have ever suffered with sinus problems...allergies...nasal congestion. This.... is... the best thing ever. I just did it the other night. And i cant believe i waited so long.
it was almost a religious experience.
and yes...
Its well worth the horror.
so if you're on the fence. you are retarded. try this.
theres a easier way. go google neilmed sinus rinse. its what i do. its a small bottle. has small packets like 50 of em. just shogve some hot water in the bottle pour the packet shake shove botle in ur nose squeeze end of story
ummm, it takes several uses to really work. I used to get sinus infections consistantly, I've been using a neti pot daily for the last 3 years and have not had one single sinus problem since starting. Those of you who use it one time and expect to be cured like a miracle, you're expecting too much. It takes regular use.
Thanks for posting this video! Especially for posting the video of your first time using it. I've had sinus problems for a long time, and this might just work.
Nice of you to post this and great vid until you used the oil. Please people NEVER put any oil up your nose. Doing so can lead to something call lipid pneumonia. The best way to keep nasal passages moist and healthy is to keep well hydrated. Always drink plenty of water, and try to keep environment at the correct humidity. Also, using the neti pot with the salt is the way to keep the passages moist, contrary to thinking it will dry them out, it actually helps keep them moist.

ugh can someone help me? when i ever i use it, the water doesnt seem to go through my nasal quickly to the other side and if it does, not a lot of the yucky, mucus water comes out, is there something blocking in my nose? i have nasal problems :[
f-ing minging... and snot etc. isn't what makes you feel stuffy, like tommylane said it's due to swelling. also sticking your finger up your nose flattens the little hairs that stop allergens, germs and dirt from getting into your body and putting unsanitized objects into your nose can introduce germs too. i really don't see the benefits of this neti pot, what you say it does is the complete opposite to what it's actually doing to your body. stick with tech
The neti pot is a technique that has been used for many, many centuries, hellrosemarie. Just because you're skeptical doesn't make you a genius. It's older than you were thought of. Get over it. At least it uses nature's own, salt and water. Purfied water and salt won't ruin the body. Salt also helps the pH balance of the body.
If one doesn't sanitize their product, let them live with it. Stick to your tech, but that's very close-minded.
I'm all for nature doing it's job and I know that my body is natural and can cope without me forcing stuff into it. Our noses are designed to cope with allergens and germs. Just because something is old doesn't mean it works or that it's right. If you like your body to be natural let it get on with it itself. And if I was getting paid to produce tech vids I would stick with it, I'm not saying i'm closed to anything else, just that when I subscribe to a tech channel I expect tech.
So that means we shouldn't bathe, pee in a toilet, or wash our hands. Nice.
Technology doesn't mean fancy gadgets like cell phones or fancy pens with radios. Health has it's own version. Does it need to be battery powered for you?
Breathing is your body's way of living something in my above comment I was praising, washing hands and going to the toilet do not involve pouring liquids into orifices that aren't supposed to have liquids froced into them. As the women said your body reacts by trying not to drown. And yes in this day and age I expect tech to be something that is driving us forward,so ancient teapots used to force things into my nostrils I don't see appropriate for this channel. Maybe a history or health channel?
Clearly you've never had a nasty case of Sinusitis or suffer from allergies all year round. I currently have a pulsating headache from a sinus infection and I'm seriously considering this because I don't want to have to pump antibiotics into me every time I get a sinus infection. I had tried to let my body handle it on its own in the past and that led to the infection getting even worse, not better. Sometimes, the body needs a bit of a helping hand to keep itself healthy.
If you ever experienced chronic sinusitis, you would know that there is no known cure outside of surgery. This is the only thing that actually works. The anti-biotic/steroids are only temporary.
Nature doesn't always do it's job. That's why people get sick. If you have a sinus infection that doesn't go away within a couple of weeks, you need to seek some type of remedy. It won't go away on its own.
I used to do this with a small cup, table salt and a whole lot of nerve. Just sucked it in and tried to keep it in there a little while and the blow it out. Repeat on other nostril. Although not as effective as your "pro-model", it worked better than anything commercial going.
It's not just the mucus in your nose that is stuffing it up. The turbinates are swollen from allergy or environmental irritation. The idea is to keep the mucus membranes in the nose clean and free from allergens so that less allergic reaction will occur which will in turn keep the turbinates
Chris, your nasal passages are probably NOT stuffed up, but the walls are contracting to eachother. Don't ask me how to fix it, but if you ever take a super powered flashlight at hand, when you feel stuffed up, angle yourself so that you see up your nostril in a mirror, shine the flashlight in, and if you see your flesh... um... going toward eachother, your nostrils are closing up on you.
This is just great. So many people have allergies and one girl got an infection because of all the drainage going into her lungs. The Neti Pot will allow her to clean out the drainage without going into her lungs! Just perfect!! She also said her nose gets raw inside so the oil will help her also! Thanks so much Yourlilchinagirl!!
Hey Chris. I have a natural treatment you can try. Worked great for me & for others & recommended it to. It's called Echinacea - Goldenseal Complex. It's natural & is Great for allergy's & congestion. When you 1st start taking it take 2 times the recommended amount for the 1st 2 day's. You can't overdose so no worries. then take it according to the directions. in about 5 to 12 day's you'll notice a Huge difference. Take it with vitamins C,E, & Magnesium & Zinc. Trust me You'll love it !
I have a similar thing which I use when my nose is stuffed. Difference is that I just mix a salt solution and use that. Sesame oil is specifically for "dried up" nostrils which can be natural or caused by the humidity of where you work/sit. Ive struggled with the same kinda thing for my entire life. Had to do an operation to "realign" my sinus cos it was crooked and one nostril was almost blocked. It really affects your life quality if you dont do something about it...
"Your body is going to do what it does to not drown"? Why do people drown then? Why doesn't you body do what it does to stop the reasons you would do something as stupid as this. Don't do it. This Neti pot is pure quackery. At least get the opinion of a real science based Dr.
Like I said, old things that were thought to be scientifically true were proven wrong. I think you need a refresher course on reading comprehension because I did not say that Science itself was pure idiocy. But that it has been wrong in the past.
Not everyone swims with nose-plugs. I don't and I can go pretty deep underwater.
Ironic you would post this video Chris, I've been looking at Neti pots for months now to treat my Sinusitis. It's intimidating! Don't know if I'm ready for drowning myself :P
i known its method! when my myther go tu yoga klasis wher she learning thet but ther wei duze onli solt woter & no oil they just dry nos with special brithing metod may be i make a video response to show how its luks

I used to do this with a small cup, table salt and a whole lot of nerve. Just sucked it in and tried to keep it in there a little while and the blow it out. Repeat on other nostril. Although not as effective as your "pro-model", it worked better than anything commercial going.
Keep Imei around, she's nice. :)

It's not just the mucus in your nose that is stuffing it up. The turbinates are swollen from allergy or environmental irritation. The idea is to keep the mucus membranes in the nose clean and free from allergens so that less allergic reaction will occur which will in turn keep the turbinates
from swelling and blocking your nasal passages.

I hope you don't use that bowl for cooking for guests. LoL

Chris, your nasal passages are probably NOT stuffed up, but the walls are contracting to eachother. Don't ask me how to fix it, but if you ever take a super powered flashlight at hand, when you feel stuffed up, angle yourself so that you see up your nostril in a mirror, shine the flashlight in, and if you see your flesh... um... going toward eachother, your nostrils are closing up on you.

in some advert for a cold remedy they said that being 'stuffed up' was due to the blood vessels restricting in the nassal passage

Good luck! :)

"Your body is going to do what it does to not drown"? Why do people drown then? Why doesn't you body do what it does to stop the reasons you would do something as stupid as this. Don't do it. This Neti pot is pure quackery. At least get the opinion of a real science based Dr.
newcoyote 2 years ago
And I suppose you're a Dr.?
I seem to have read quite a bit of history where what was thought to be science was pure idiocy.
punkrockgoth1988 2 years ago
Really? Science pure idiocy, huh? I guess you are saying that from the comfort of you isolated hut in the depths of the jungle?
newcoyote 2 years ago
Like I said, old things that were thought to be scientifically true were proven wrong. I think you need a refresher course on reading comprehension because I did not say that Science itself was pure idiocy. But that it has been wrong in the past.
Not everyone swims with nose-plugs. I don't and I can go pretty deep underwater.
