This is a nice video. I think sometimes Japanese people "ganbaru" so hard with everything they do, trying to making everything perfect. If it's not perfect, it's unthinkable. Sometimes westerners cosplay just for the fun of it, and emphasis is placed on enjoyment rather that perfection/making sure every single hair is in place. Of course that's a generalization and not always true.
Okay, I'm just getting this out of the way. I'm a Western Cosplayer, and I have to make most of my costumes. Most of the Cosplayers over here don't have shops to go to, to buy the Cosplay outfits. Mine aren't perfect, my friends' aren't perfect...but they're pretty good. So, if I were you, I would just drop this whole thing. Cosplay is just for fun, it's costume play.

This video is completely racist. Face shape is all genetics. Saying 'American' is completely contradicting your claim. Sure white people are generally American. However the correct term is Caucasian. America is a like a candy bowl of different types or candies. You can't criticize America on just simple basic shapes. Everyone in America regardless of race is AMERICAN! I really hate titles that divide people (race, heritage, sometimes even gender) but I understand that we use them to clarify what, where, or who someone is but why do we need to divide people further by using it against them? aren't we all classified under the same species?

Cosplay originally started in American Sci-Fi and Fantasy conventions before Asians were cosplaying Anime. If you're ever wondering why I'm so pissed off, it's because I'm pissed off by arrogant Westerners who think they're the best at cosplaying. I'm half Asian and half European descent, I am Italian, German, Filipino, Spaniard, small portions of Chinese and of Sephardic Jewish descent. It doesn't matter your ethnicity, if you enjoy cosplay, have fun with it! If you know know good photographers and anyone with awesome photoshop skills, that always is a plus. Regardless, I agree with your statement.
I think its coz asians have the facial features of the characters rather than the americans! I think its the facial features which the americans dont have to match the cartoon charaters!!
honestly the art of cosplay is just really having fun and playing the role of a character you think fits you well. as for American cosplay... I think it is usually over or under played. either the person doesn't really get into the character through risk of embarrassment or general awkwardness... or it's over played and the person forgets to have fun with it. This video showed a good balance of what Asian and American cosplay can do in moderation. which was best? idc haha cosplay is fun! XD

while i don't usually have a preference towards japanese or american cosplayers, when it comes to country-specific characters, like in Hetalia, it sometimes irks me when i see an asian germany or italy, but that's just me. they still do a great job with the cosplay though, regardless.

well sometimes when america takes on animes and make them into motion pictures they also think should they have asian actors or americans and sometimes when they choose americans people who watch the anime get angry and when they use asians people who have never heard of the anime just the movie get angry

That both Japanese and Americans can cosplay well if they actually try and accomplish it with good funds and skill instead of just tossing clothes in their closet on and buying a cheap wig. Everyone has the chance to be good, and cosplays from both countries can rock or suck.
I think some western cosplays would look better if they got the environment, lighting, make up and details right. I've seen some cosplay western comics and not even get those right.
When people photoshop, they are not always trying to fool the audience into thinking they are born with plastic skin. They are trying make their costume look top notch, like people in theatre.

A lot of video game characters are Caucasian. But I've seen great cosplays from both Western and Asians. Asian cosplay tends to be more soft featured and cuter.
Some anime charaacters really look better Asian like Chii, because of the face shape. Some characters look a little more western.
I think Asian cosplays tend to be better because they do their best to make it artistic, such as getting details right, having the right features, lighting, environment, etc.. things models do.
This video only reinforced the fact that asians are superior when it comes to cosplaying. Just leave it alone, I mean asians made the anime characters anyway so naturally asians would look a little more like them.

many Anime characters are actually European. Like Edward from Full Metal Alchemist, he's German. It points that out in both the anime, manga, and in the movie. The entire series takes place in Germany and the middle east. So if all the characters are white and Arab then how are Asian people cosplaying them "better"?

I noticed "VeryProudAsian" or whatever the hell his name is tends to pick the worst examples of pictures/people for his videos of why westerners are not allowed to do cosplay. Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime/manga by Hiromu Arakawa, a Japanese woman. In the artwork, nearly 19 out of every 20 characters are depicted with non-"Asian" features. I've seen "Asians" try to cosplay FMA; it's a huge pile of failures.
And yes, "Asian" is in quotes because 70% of Asia is Russia.
theirs no difference it only depends on the persons features and the characters features also if the costume is good or bad if you can match up yourself with a character and get a great costume your gold! (that's y it always seems Asians are better sometimes because they are wearing an exact replica of the character)

Saying that just asians can cosplay, because they are cuter is very rude. For instance, I haven't seen any good cosplayer for Enma Ai, no matter where they were from. Everyone was too old for the role, that's it.
Its kind of true. Asia has easier access to the material. the main time people dress up in the US is for halloween. Anyone else notice how anime characters eyes are usually pretty big? Yet asain people eyes are small? So what, right? Who cares what u look like and where your from. Besides that I don't think that it's really necessary to compare American or Asian Cosplayers. They are equally good. The Asian cosplayers also have some really bad ones, just like each other country as well.

Of course Mangas are from Japan, but that does not include that the Storys that are told in the Mangas take place in Japan. For example I never understood why they let asians play L and Watari in the real movie of Death Note because they are both DEFINETLY from ENGLAND.

I don't get it. Why fight I'm asian and I really appreciate good cosplay. There's great asian cosplay but there's great american cosplay too. Anyway it shouldn't be about who the best at cosplay. Because really its hard and a lot of effort are put into costume and some shouldn't criticize it so much. If you look good then great and if its not totally identical to anime at least I cosplay the character I really like. Don't compare on who's better, Its about love of anime. A hobby not a job.

look at it this way. I f Japan didn't distribute anime into other countries many people over in japan wouldn't have jobs and lots of money would be lost, so there is no point trying to change it because we live in 2 completely different place.

I don't even think it matters how well you cosplay as long as you're having fun. When you said Anime characters were based off European features, all you're doing is encouraging the people to think they cosplay better than Asians and that'll promote more hate. I'm half Asian and half European descent, I am Italian, German, Filipino, Spaniard, small portions of Chinese and of Sephardic Jewish descent. It doesn't matter your ethnicity, if you enjoy cosplay, have fun with it! If you know know good photographers and anyone with awesome photoshop skills, that always is a plus. Regardless, I agree with your statement.

honestly the art of cosplay is just really having fun and playing the role of a character you think fits you well. as for American cosplay... I think it is usually over or under played. either the person doesn't really get into the character through risk of embarrassment or general awkwardness... or it's over played and the person forgets to have fun with it. This video showed a good balance of what Asian and American cosplay can do in moderation. which was best? idc haha cosplay is fun! XD

while i don't usually have a preference towards japanese or american cosplayers, when it comes to country-specific characters, like in Hetalia, it sometimes irks me when i see an asian germany or italy, but that's just me. they still do a great job with the cosplay though, regardless.

I've realized that when people make vids like this they usually fin pictures that are the best cosplay or the worst to make their point. I think how good someone can cosplay depends on what you see personally at something like a con rather than looking at pictures people post on the internet.

I think some western cosplays would look better if they got the environment, lighting, make up and details right. I've seen some cosplay western comics and not even get those right.
When people photoshop, they are not always trying to fool the audience into thinking they are born with plastic skin. They are trying make their costume look top notch, like people in theatre.
Really I've seen naturally beautiful Asian/western cosplayers. So let's not argue. :/ Ugly individuals, not ugly race

A lot of video game characters are Caucasian. But I've seen great cosplays from both Western and Asians. Asian cosplay tends to be more soft featured and cuter.
Some anime charaacters really look better Asian like Chii, because of the face shape. Some characters look a little more western.
I think Asian cosplays tend to be better because they do their best to make it artistic, such as getting details right, having the right features, lighting, environment, etc.. things models do.

many Anime characters are actually European. Like Edward from Full Metal Alchemist, he's German. It points that out in both the anime, manga, and in the movie. The entire series takes place in Germany and the middle east. So if all the characters are white and Arab then how are Asian people cosplaying them "better"?

I think that it's good you chose such quality photos from all ethnic groups. I noticed "VeryProudAsian" or whatever the hell his name is tends to pick the worst examples of pictures/people for his videos of why westerners are not allowed to do cosplay. I personally fall into the category of "built like an anime character" but I'm actually Black and Native american. I also know of Beckii Cruel from the Isle of Mann in UK that is quite cute and anime-like too. It's ridiculous the whole thing. . .

Hmmmm... Saying that only "Asians" should cosplay anime/manga characters is a bit... uninformed. That's almost implying that every anime/manga character is modeled after "Asians". Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime/manga by Hiromu Arakawa, a Japanese woman. In the artwork, nearly 19 out of every 20 characters are depicted with non-"Asian" features. I've seen "Asians" try to cosplay FMA; it's a huge pile of failures.
And yes, "Asian" is in quotes because 70% of Asia is Russia.

you know the only MAIN difference i find in the two cosplay styles, is the wigs. The style and color of the wigs.
The american part tends to keep it the way it is, and style it sometimes, but the color is flat.
The Japanese, style every type (most of the time) straight long hair or whatever it may be, so it doesnt look like a wig.
both styles are nice though, sometimes, the hair is too styled, so in that way, the american method is best.

I don't think some people realize that there are a lot of manga and video game characters that are not from Japan (as in the character is not from there and what not). Many Japanese characters (especially in video games) are more based on European features and the like.

Of course Mangas are from Japan, but that does not include that the Storys that are told in the Mangas take place in Japan. For example I never understood why they let asians play L and Watari in the real movie of Death Note because they are both DEFINETLY from ENGLAND.
The real problem in here is that many japanese/asians think that european and american people are rasicst because they are cosplaying. But how can you be racist if you LOVE a country and his culture???

I don't get it. Why fight I'm asian and I really appreciate good cosplay. There's great asian cosplay but there's great american cosplay too. Anyway it shouldn't be about who the best at cosplay. Because really its hard and a lot of effort are put into costume and some shouldn't criticize it so much. If you look good then great and if its not totally identical to anime at least I cosplay the character I really like. Don't compare on who's better, Its about love of anime. A hobby not a job.

Anyone can cosplay,there's people in both races that'll look like shit while doing so, and people who will pull it off perfectly. But that's not the reason why people cosplay. It's not a beauty pageant.
I think we can all agree, however, to at least wear clothes/costumes suited to our weight. Other than that, I'm not gonna give someone a hard time who doesn't exactly look like an anime character.

look at it this way. I f Japan didn't distribute anime into other countries many people over in japan wouldn't have jobs and lots of money would be lost, so there is no point trying to change it because we live in 2 completely different place.
(and I don't hate Asians. I respect your culture and put some effort into learning about it because of anime and I tend to never do that because I admit I'm a procrastinator)
