He doesn't need it because his tone sounds great. Equipment is important when it comes to guitar playing, however, mastering and recoding techniques are by far the most essential tools any musician can have in their arsenal. I've seen videos of players utilizing thousands of dollars worth of "gear" and yet their demos, music, and overall presentation sounded awful.
