Sadly, Malcolm X's call for armed self-defense against "white" racist violence seems to have mostly alarmed the mainstream civil-rights groups, which were dedicated to non-violent direct action. Of course, it was also a cause of concern for federal and local law-enforcement agencies. Thanx for your comment.

The Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) members were never Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's "followers." In fact, there was tension between SNCC and Dr. King's Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) almost from the former's founding in April 1961. But your point is well taken.
