  • Very moving. Coaches play this for your teams every year.

  • I met Brian in summer of '68 (I think) when he came back to Wake Forest and dropped by the Sigma Chi house. He had pledged but never inducted because of football, but said he wished he'd become a member. I think everyone considers him a brother. He was a real cool guy, a memory I still have to this day. When WF calls every year for an alumni donation, I give half to the school and half to the Piccolo fund.

  • Don, thanks for sharing that. And, if you were a fan back then, and watching this today does not bring a tear to your eye, better get that checked out. Two better role models I cannot think of.

  • I was only 4 when Brian passed but I still feel him to this day. Brian and Walter in the backfield kicking butt.

  • Wow. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • God bless you Don Piccolo and your family! I am a school teacher and every year as part of our curriculum we read the teleplay Brian's Song. Every year I get to teach a new crop of students about the life, lesson, and heart of Brian Piccolo. Your brother's message still lives on and inspires others.

  • @TheDonpiccolo I saw your brothers movie when I was 4yrs old. Made a lasting impression!

  • I will never forget Brian's song and still cry when I hear it

thanks for sharing a little piece of Brian and Walter and the town that loved them

  • God bless you, Mr. Piccolo. Your brother will always be an inspiration to me and countless others. I thank God for what he did during his time on earth and in heaven.

  • I so appreciate your comment Don--your brother is an inspiration to me. I live in Omaha NE and my mom went to high school with both gale and roger sayers. Brian was amazing.

  • I never cried so hard when i watched Walter's press conference. He was a great man and a great legend and an inspiration to all! God Bless Him, its players like him that i am proud to say i am from chicago and a Chicago bear fan..the same goes for brian piccolo

  • the music that starts around 6:20 is from the movie "A River Runs THrough It". Great music throughout this entire video. I believe they also use the music from "A Beautiful Mind" also.

  • This is one of the most moving things I have ever seen. I cried like a baby all the way through it and i have every time i have viewed it. it makes one's own health struggles feel trivial by comparison. if someone asked me what a hero was i would sit them down and tell them to watch this. MEN LIKE THIS SHOULD BE OUR HEROS. TY for posting this. Amazing.

  • I had the honor of knowing Walter Payton and it's amazing how a man who accomplished so much could remain so humble. Everytime I was around the man, he made me feel like I was the famous one. I've only met a handful of people in my life that have been like that. I truly do love Walter for the person he was and not for what he'd done......

  • Hi, to all that view this. What a wonderful legacy these two fine men left.

Brian Piccolo was my kid brother. I will always love and miss him dearly. Never got to meet Walter, that was certainly my loss.

Thank you to the great city of Chicago for loving them.

    With love to all,

"may all your troubles be Piccolo"

    Don Piccolo

Don: About 6 or 7 years ago I became curious about how Brian's family was doing. I found the book by Jeannie Morris, which gave more insight into Brian's courageous battle. I recently lost a close friend in a sudden tragic accident who was only 38. She had two daughters, 3 and 2. It made me think of Brian's family from 40 years ago and I saw this story. I just wanted to tell you that you and the rest of Brian's family are still in my thoughts and prayers. Take care.

  • @TheDonpiccolo Hi Don. Is there any more footage, say perhaps interviews, of Brian on the internet. He has been a hero of mine since i was a small child. What an amazing man he was.

  • @TheDonpiccolo Mr. Piccolo, your brother's strength, courage, kindness, and decency have spanned generations now. I was 10 when I saw and cried at Brian's Song. I'm an old man with gray in my beard now and it's still an important moment in my life. My father was killed in a car wreck when I was seven months old. My mother didn't know she was carrying my brother when she buried her husband. Peace, brother.

  • @TheDonpiccolo We will always love Brian. Your parents and family helped shape him to become the man he was and always will be....thank you for sharing him with us.

  • @TheDonpiccolo

I have been inspired by Brian's story these past 40 years. I'll admit that I'm a life-long Packers fan, but the ironic thing is, true fans in this rivalry respect the real competitors who play for the other team. Your brother showed tremendous courage on and off the field and he possessed a great sense of humor. It's good to see that his legacy lives on in the fight against cancer.

  • @TheDonpiccolo My dad named me after him. When I grew up and learned more about him, realized that it couldn't have been a better fit.

  • @TheDonpiccolo Did you every eat shrimp from DiCola's with Brian

  • @TheDonpiccolo i was reading the script of Brian's Song in english and you truly were a lucky man to be his brother, he was a real inspiration

P.S. i cried at the end of the script:'(

  • @TheDonpiccolo

    Hey Don,

my grandma has told me that she is a distant cousin of Brian and I am honored to have any relation to a man with that much fight in him.

  • @TheDonpiccolo God Bless your brother and God Bless your family.........................

  • @TheDonpiccolo My blessings to you on the 40th anniversary of the premiere of the standard-bearing television movie 'Brian's Song'.

  • @TheDonpiccolo Your brother's story touched my life personally.

    God bless yo uboth.

  • @TheDonpiccolo - If Jesus Christ had been walking this earth in 1970, Brian would not have died.

  • I did not have an opportunity to see this when it originally aired. I have read another book about Brian Piccolo that I believe his wife Joy wrote "A Short Season", which I think was the title but not sure. I appreciate seeing the opportunity to see the interview of him while he was still with us. It was nice to see his wife Joy and one of his 3 daughters and also to see the family of Walter Payton. They were both taken far, far too soon. Thank you very much for posting

  • Wow, that's really powerful. Made me cry... a couple of times.

  • if this does not move your soul, then you probably don't have one

  • thanks for putting this up even though I'm a steelers fan I loved Walter Payton
