MrEndura's comments are correct. Doing a long run 10 days before the marathon would be a catastrophe.
I was advised to do the last long run no sooner than 21days before the marathon. After that run, those next two weeks and the week of the marathon, you will do what's called "tapering." By the time the race comes around, you should be debating whether you're "rested or rusted," haha. Hopefully it's the former.
He is not an "expert." He played water-polo in high school. He is very slow (look up his times), and that's probably because he doesn't train properly. Please seek better advice. It is hard not to find it. PS- The 20 mile run should be 30 days before, not 10.
Yeah lol hes wrong there. Thats like for elite training. The last 20 miler should be done at least three weeks prior the marathon. Im running my second in a week. I should know ;)
reduce your miles gradually 3 weeks prior to your Marathon is what I do, longest run i.e. 20 miles or so 3 weeks before your Marathon, 10 days, come on......
Something that greatly helped me through a marathon is looking down. I know your not supposed look down, I keep a straight posture and I look down without moving my head and keeping a straight posture. I found that this technique helped me by seeing it in a different way. For example, have you looked at bottom of the road when your in the passenger seat in a car? It seems rally cool and really fast. I tried it and before I knew it I came to every mile faster than I thought. Mile after mile.
Gay, douchebag, loser, moron, his pecs etc at least he is making an effort to post this video. I am a gay marathoner and I learn something from this video so be it!
First-time marathoners:one 20 mile run four weeks beforehand.Taper long runs down until the week before, reducing by 25%, 50%, and by 75% seven days before. Second-timers should do at least 2-3 runs between 20 and 24 miles, each separated by three weeks.Consider pulling back every fourth week.Training regimens to include tempo runs (target race pace) starting at 7 and building towards 18 miles and no further. Think seriously about and practise what you can sustain; pacing rules above all else.
It's absurd to claim you should do your long run of 20 miles *ten days* before the marathon. This is just extremely poor advice. I've run 75 marathons and know what I'm talking about. Run 20 miles a month before the marathon date and then taper down your mileage. Trust me!
I like this guy. He's cool :)

Long run 10 days before a Marathon? You must be kidding me.
Do a hot tub after a long run to relax? It just keeps getting better.
If you are a first timer, do not listen to this guy. He is dangerous!
How would I know? I have run several Ultra and standard Marathons in the top 10% finisher field.
