  • John Fahey died after open heart surgery in Medford Oregon. I was living there and saw the report in the local newspaper. He was the founder of Takoma Records, so I doubt that he was starving when he died.

  • Bert Jansch And John Fahey beat the junk that we have today.

  • If anyone has sheet music for this piece, please let me know. This has got to be one of the coolest guitar pieces ever written. Fahey Rules!

  • 16,555 views and its get better everytime

  • Anybody got a line on the tuning?

  • @AertPietersz - I just sent this to my Dad (we're both touring musicians) and if anyone can figure the tuning, my Dad can. My question is, I'm originally FROM asheville NC and the entire town is surrounded by the French Broad River. Any link to what river he's playing about?

  • @AertPietersz >Sounds like standard tuning to me, aka Charlie Patton...

  • @AertPietersz Open G

  • Oh God, where are these musicians today? So damn empty out there these days. No soul whatsoever.

  • @DiamondSoul their out there I promise. They just have to be found, however I agree with you that nowadays music is lacking soul and power and the industry has gone completly down the drain.

But dont worry there will be a day when real music is heard on the airwaves once again.

  • go john - youll always be in my heart - died poor in a home for musicians. musicians are fucked now unless they are shitney spears or such like - well thats the internet for ya!

  • Ah YouTube so much to dig, so little background info...

like approximate date and origin of this recording...

  • Taken from the Revenant 4 CD box set: John Fahey's Earliest Recordings: The Fonotone Years (1958-65)

  • or try wikipedia

  • Was Davy Graham influenced by John Fahey or vice versa? Don't know, but 2 great players. Bert Jansch, the only 1 of the 3 still alive, is another great.

  • I believe they were developing similar styles at the same time, and while they may have heard each other across the atlantic, I think their styles are for the most part, their own.

  • @OnkelOtto7 Yeah but don't forget John Renbourn and Suni McGrath for sure, all born between 1940 and '45.

#John Fahey was influenced by all of the old blues players from this country but later by Bola Sete: Brazil.

( Fahey's "Let Go" album has with a few of Bola Sete's guitar pieces included)( A must Listen!)

  • Sir John Fahey is of Great Inspiration

thank You very much Sir John Fahey @

  • Love the rawness of this track. Ive always played bass but john fahey was the reason I started playing guitar. Anyone have some recommendations for similar style guitar players?

  • Robbie Basho, Leo Kottke(more quick and clean than fahey but still good), Ken Perlman(mostly fiddle tunes but good nonetheless), Rev. Gary Davis, Blind Boy Fuller. All these are similar but none quite have Fahey's mystique.

  • check out Stefan Grossman's guitar workshop.

They played together, Grossman is still playing (heard him last year in Bournemouth, England, where he spoke and played a tribute to John Fahey). He has a load of archive and instructional material available re Fahey and many other influential payers for sale on his web site.

  • @ITownley Yeah , Wizz Jones (who influenced Eric clapton) any of the old Delta Blues players, rev. Gary Davis, Big Bill Broonzy, Mississippi John Hurt, Mance Lipscomb, Werner Lammerhirt (Germany) Hans Theesink (Holland).........want more?

  • in this tune its like u hear 3 or four guitars at once!

  • I've never come across this particular piece before. Thanks for posting it!
