The fact is that the British Empire wasn't fully comitted to advantages in keeping the colonies (USA). We had the French to deal with and saw more resourses in the Carribean...and India, Africa etc. Anyway the war of indepence is essentially civil war, essentially between British people loyal to the crown and British people who wanted idependence, fought on foreign soil.
