  • I don't see the Home Sharing in the Settings.

  • Does this app allow me to look inside my anus with a mirror?

  • and do you have to enter a 4 digit code for the apple tv to show up in libraries?

  • Ok so to make your apple tv appear in your library, you just turn on home sharing on the apple tv, right? correct me if im wrong. very nive video by the way. Subscribed for sure :)

  • It never prompts me for the 4 number passcode wtf do i do?

  • So to control apple tv I can't use my ipod to scroll through my musics and movies and have to use that clunky interface? I was planning to retire my squeezebox for an apple tv, but now I don't know anymore.

Do I need to have iTunes Running all the time or this is just a one time setup?

Do it works if my Apple TV connect using Ethernet instead of Wifi?

Can I activate for then One iTouch or iPhone?

  • @sonyinternet Yes, you can control Netflix, no you do not need iTunes running unless you are streaming your iTunes library, yes it works with Ethernet or WiFi assuming everything is sharing the same network/access point, you can use the remote app on multiple devices.

  • can you do it backwards? (control iphone with mac) Fast anwser!

  • @kyrojoki Nope!

  • ive activated it and all that stuff but how do i put that code in

  • how do you also make the music play through the ipod?

  • @carl7lamoureux With iOS 4.3 you can now share your iTunes library on your iOS device. You have to watch my iOS 4.3 video to check out iTunes Sharing.

  • My iPhone doesnt show in the devices list to the left. Help?

  • Can you rate songs with the application?

  • @theSOUNDinterpreter No, you have to use the iPod app for that.

  • Comment removed

  • i can't find my ipod?

  • yo detroitborg, i have 2 computers on my network but the little airplay button doesnt show so i cant control both at the same time

  • @rubix63 AirPlay only appears when Apple TV or AirPort Express are detected.

  • @MLNadam297 I am going to post a link in the description of this video for troubleshooting Homesharing, could be a number of issues.

  • mine dosent tell me to add thoes numbers but its not working for me plz help me

  • @famousvarga16 I have a link in this video description which will lead you to a Troubleshooting Guide. See if that helps you out!

  • Nice video... but I got a basic question for ya. How do I use my iPhone as the remote for my AppleTV without having to run iTunes on my computer? With this latest update, if I turn off iTunes on my computer, my iPhone will not see/find my AppleTV. If iTunes is running, then I'm only AirPlay'ing from computer to the AppleTV... not actually controlling the AppleTV.

  • @62Buford It could be a number of issues but I have posted links in the description box of this video that will help you troubleshoot your issue, it sounds like HomeSharing is the main issue. I would also look at my iOS 4.3 Walkthrough which essentially makes the Remote app largely redundant since you now have iTunes Library control right from the iPod app.

  • when I click on my ipod it doesn't have the little remote icon, it has the iPod pic and doesn't allow me to enter a code.

  • it doesnt show devices without the usb cable but when i click my device it doesnt show the remote app

  • Does AirPlay & Streaming need a good Wi-Fi connection to prevent lag & jog?

  • @1superalex Yes, although AirPlay doesn't really lag like you're thinking, it does a very good job buffering content, you will almost never see problems unless your signal is really bad.

  • it doesnt show up for me under devices for some reason :/

  • @DetroitBORG what if the remote app is sayin theres no library ...cuz after i turned on home sharing on itunes and in the app it still gives no library whatsoever

  • @hockeyguyh8 Make sure you turn on Home Sharing on the Apple TV.

  • @DetroitBORG i dont have an apple tv ..and as soon as i got the app amd turned everything on..it worked perfectly

  • @TheUltimateGothic No, it's completely free.

  • So you can control you're iTunes Library via Home Sharing and the Remote app?

  • @MultiPriceless Yes! Can be confusing when using it, yes ;)

  • @wykunitake I hesitate to recommend iOS 4 for the 3G becauase it negatively impacts overall performance and speed.

  • hey i got mines to work- thanks for your video and your help.

it was as easy as 1,2,3 for me

  • @yelowstar08 Glad to hear!

  • I have the iphone 4, when i go to i tunes it doesnt promt me w/ the passcode. :?

  • @BriannaReneeHoward The same thing happened to me but i dont know what to do....

  • @RoyalMasterQc I think the way i did it was make sure your computer and iphone are on the same wireless network and it should work

  • this is brilliant! You don't even need apple tv if you have this. If you connect your mac to your tv (or not if you have an imac) you can watch all your content there! Amzing thank you so much!

  • great videos, very helpful

  • How is it your ipod is not plugged in but you are still synced to your computer?

  • @11JChancey You are remotely controlling iTunes on the computer over WiFi, you aren't 'synced' to it in the hardwired sense.

  • i really like your demo's. you do a good job of going over most every feature. thank you.

  • @tpieper1 My pleasure!

  • can you just buy an wifi router from walmart then you will have wifi?

  • @tjsolarboy96 yes, i have a wireless g router and only got it for like $40 at best buy and works fine. but put a security on it

  • @tjsolarboy96 Yep! Any networking solution will work, it doens't have to be from Apple just as long as you have a WiFi network.

  • WOW THIS WONT FUCKN WORK!!!!!!THIS IS FUCKIN DUMB

  • @MrNapt I'll send you an Apple Troubleshooting Guide which will help you. In-fact, I'm adding it to the description on this video.

  • so no wifi..no connection?

  • @karloman00 Correct.

  • My iPhone 4 keeps saying it cant connect and its on my WiFi I follow your steps and I still come up wrong what Do I do?

  • @PLAYSTATION3NOOBS Make sure you have activated The Remote function on the Apple TV under settings.

  • @DetroitBORG I dont have an Apple Tv I have Itunes on my Pc.

  • @PLAYSTATION3NOOBS Ahh, best thingn to do is follow Apple's troubleshooting guide. Google HT4437 and that will get you a support document from Apple.

  • I did all the steps you said until the passcode part, my itunes didnt have an area for my to put in the 4 numbers at all. I had homesharing on both devices and they are on the same network. any ideas?

  • @valexbihh Make sure you have enabled The Remote under "Settings".

  • is there a way to block it ???

    please reply anyone

  • @MythoBot Block it, what do you mean?

  • @DetroitBORG cause i think someones using remote on my mac

  • @MythoBot iTunes > Prefrences > Devices > Forget All Remotes

  • cool video

  • For some reason I have home sharing ON on both my iTunes and iPad. But it doesn't connect. And then when I tried it using the pass code. iTunes says my bonjour services have been disabled.

Can you provide any help please?

  • @KM00000000000 Bonjour is the service iTunes use to 'handshake' with other devices on the same network. It may have been deactivated or removed. You can try reinstalling iTunes or just update if you haven't done so already. You can also try installing Bonjour for windows.

  • @DetroitBORG I updated iTunes a while back when the new one came out but it never asked to install Bonjour. I really don't want to reinstall iTunes because then I'll have to move all my music and videos back on to iTunes which is a pain I dealt with on my last computer.

Is there a link you can tell me of where to download Bonjour. I tried Apple's website but the only Bonjour download link I get is for Bonjour Air Print. I don't know if its the same one but I do have that installed now.

  • @KM00000000000 To be honest, there could be dozens of other reasons why Bonjour is acting up, from AntiVirus and Firewalls to disabling the service under msconfig. Go to Apple . com /support/bonjour for some guidance and support.

  • @KM00000000000 You may or may not have Bonjour installed. If it is installed, it may simply be stopped in your Services.

If you go to Administrative Tools, then Services, you should find Bonjour in the list. C

Change the setting as needed. Good luck!

  • @msheavenlykiss OMG It worked. My mom's iPad and my iPod Touch Connect. Thanks. I think I remember watching a video when I didn't have my iPod or iPad and in the video it said to disable Bonjour if you don't use something like the remote application. That way it saves on CPU and RAM.

    Thanks once again...

  • @KM00000000000 You're welcome. I've learned to go to Services to troubleshoot most of my pc issues. I'm glad it worked :)

  • lol this is perfect cause when i wake up ime alwayse confuzing my phone with the remote

  • Hi, please please please can you tell me if you can play music stored on your iphone straight to the apple tv. I would like to know because most of my music is on my iphone and not on the computer, Thankyou!

  • @MdxIxbM Once iOS 4.2 is released, you can use AirPlay to broadcast your Audio and Video to the Apple TV from your iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.

  • the computer must be on to home sharing?

  • @pony029 Yes.

  • i have wifi connected on both my iphon 3gs and itunes.. i have hme sharing on.. but no librarys are detected... help?

  • @reddevil2307 Have you gone through all the steps of setting up your phone as a remote under the iTunes Device list? That's where iTunes sees your iPhone and you are prompted to type in a pin number.

  • @DetroitBORG that prompt doesnt even appear for some reason! it worked well the first time.. then it stopped working.. i reinstalled the app too.. same problm!

  • @reddevil2307 I guess I would just make sure you are connected to WiFi and not 3G on your iPhone. Other than that I'm not sure what could be going wrong. Are you on a Mac or PC? If on a PC, did you change any of yoru firewall settings?

  • GREAT Video! Very thorough! Question - when you were using your iphone as a remote w/the airplay function and went to "Single" to use it for your 2nd Gen Apple TV, I noticed that the phone/remote interface didn't have a volume bar. Is that correct? If so, does that mean you can't control the volume of your 2nd Gen Apple TV with the iphone remote? Or do you need to go into a different menu? Any insight you can share would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

  • @ToshHill Once you select a single device, the volume controller moves back to the media control section at the bottom of the menu (just below the play/pause and shuttle controls).

  • GREAT VIDEO!!! everything that i wanted to see from a remote app video!!!

  • I'm not sure what the deal is, but I can't seem to get the pass code prompt on iTunes. The iPod Touch 3g is plugged in via usb. I have home sharing turned on, on my MBP and iPod Touch 3g. I click the device in the side column on iTunes and never get a pass code prompt. What am I doing wrong?

  • @fulleride05 Disconnect the USB and begin the remote setup process again. You can't configure the device while it's plugged into the USB, the remote pairing is done over WiFi.

  • Well; My receiver does not have an HDMI hook up, so I have the ATV hooked up directly to the TV. I guess I will have to get a digital cable? Thoughts? Thank You; Scott

  • @Oneking2 Yes, you'll need to get a TOS-link cable, dirt cheap on Amazon if you're in the market for one.

  • Just got my 2nd gen Apple TV today and I want to play music through my stereo. Do I have to use the digital cable and plug it into my stereo receiver? I have it connected to my TV via HDMI. Want to control speakers in seperate rooms. Your help is appreciated. Thank You; Scott

  • @Oneking2 Can you connect the HDMI cable to your receiver and then to your TV? The Apple TV outputs audio over HDMI and Optical so you can use either source.

  • Thanks DetroitBORG I was trying to figure out how to do this..

  • this isnt really on topic but why do you always play coldplay?

  • @HaloGod517 It's a controlled example from video to video, so it provides some continuity for comparison's sake.

  • @DetroitBORG oh ok thanks for the reply :)

  • Can I use my touch to control my iPad?

  • @Tacocat21 No.

  • lol how many song do u have??

I guess u didn't pay for all those songs ":P

You must have downloaded top2000 hits or smt coz i cant believe you're fan of rap and r&b ;PP

  • @tafelkleed12 I have about 80GBs worth of music, and indeed I only listen to maybe .05% of it ;)

  • LOL, you and Coldplay.

  • @makprince919 Using the Remote app or just in general? Yes, you can import all your music to iTunes, although it wont' support syncing of certain file types like ogg or flac.

  • @skrbicdu This one took quite a bit of time and more planning than usual so I would say 1-hour of setting up and shooting the clips, another 2 hours editing the mess together ;). Editing is always the most time consuming, especially if you have to fix something you botched during filming. And I watch the final episode dozens of times trying to catch anything I missed. I'm always surprised by how much time and labor it takes to get a video I can approve for upload.

  • @comptutmate That's correct, I muddied that point and cut it out for simplicity ;).

  • I dont have airplay?

  • @JacobCM11 Airplay is really just "Air Tunes", a feature that has been around for years now. It should be available. Fully "Airplay" functioanlity doesn't arrive until iOS 4.2 which will allow you to stream video and audio from your iPad to your Apple TV or iTunes account on a computer.

  • great review! :)

  • @jamjamhobo anytime buddy...hope it helps

  • my ipod touch 4th gen won't connect to my xbox. any ideas?

  • @SplashBlox i think it only works with apple stuff.Srry

  • @SplashBlox You are trying to use the remote app on the XBox? The remote app only works with iTunes, and that's because it's using a background network-handshaking protocol called "Bonjour"

  • @DetroitBORG /sarcasm

  • So we see you like your new white iPhone 4 Case which you reviewed couple days ago.

Very nice vid, good video quality and structure.

Of cause I gave you a "Thumps Up" and I subscribed your channel years ago ;)

  • @Lesega Thanks for the support, and yes the CapsuleRebel is working out brilliantly, love it!

  • @skrbicdu he said that he does it all in one take but edits out all the pauses and stuff

  • Capsule rebel case FTW!

  • @leonghk12 Agreed!

  • Good app better demo!

  • that app looks so cool, but confusing. may come in handy cuz im always confused about playing music from my laptop speakers or my tv's surround speakers. need that apple tv

  • @brownviper13 It's confusing to use since it's easy to forget that you are either controling your computer and sending it to the Apple TV, or you are controling the Apple TV directly and accessing your iTunes library on your computer. I would like to have made that point clearer but hoped people would get it regardless.

  • One of the clearest and most objective "reviews" I've seen :)

  • @piggylee1 Thanks :)

  • Cool Application.

    Also Nice Video!

  • just a quick question about the apple tv. Doesnt your laptop or computer have to be on to stream the movies since there is no longer a hard drive in the apple tv?

  • @Kerpaltheballer If you want to stream content from iTunes on your PC/Mac it does, but not if you are streaming movies from Apple, Netflix, YouTube, etc... With the old Apple TV, you had to sync movies and photos to the Apple TV but you could stream your music library.

  • Great, nice video. Are you planning on doing an iPad version of this video, since it now has a new custom ui? I would like to see how the iPad interacts with the Apple TV. Well, I think this video was worth cutting together, it was very informative. Just a tip, for the scene where you were showing the iPhone and Apple TV simultaneously, you could have shot both with different cameras and then used iMovie's picture in picture tool. You also seem to have an obsession with Coldplay :)

  • @MSComputerVideos Yes, I hope to have the iPad version up today if my timing is right.

  • Comment removed

  • @pieboy013 ?why wat?

  • @jamjamhobo I use it on my Windows computer if that's what you're asking..works great.

  • Great video

  • @jamjamhobo Thanks, this one was difficult to splice together, the Remote app is somewhat confusing to explain (and use).
