you called 911 before you put it in neutral or turned it off? what has this world come to when self preservation has become 2nd to notifying the police?
Where did all of Mr Sikes supporters go??? When this story first came to light, there was about a 50/50 split between people who thought he was an idiot/fraud and people who thought this guy was another 'victim' of toyota's death traps. I'm not saying toyota doesn't have some recall issues or problems, but this was clearly NOT one of them. Forbes magazine just posted an excellent article about this story and presents the facts very clearly. Google 'forbes sikes hoax'
Corvette Owner's Club member can drive car PROFESSIONALLY for 23 minutes WHILE distracted ON THE CELL PHONE with 911 and CAN'T GET CAR STOPPED, can't press down power button for 3 seconds, can not put car at officer's request into a Neutral and can;t simply use a parking brake or just press the brake pedal down hard. Funny? NOT! He's a liar who's in debts. What a great case to sue Toyota's ass, become famous, attend TV shows, give interviews, etc.. In other words to cash in
To all those people who say its impossible to put this car in neutral at highway speeds, leftlanenews just posted a video on youtube demonstrating how easily its done. Check it out before you post that its impossible, or that the computer locks you out. Or that your car will flip like my Sikes said.
It strikes me as odd that most of these people have time to call the police, their husband, etc. and somehow the vehicle then starts to perform normally and the trauma ends and no mechanical or computer problem can be found. Also immediately after this incident hit the news outlets a woman ran her Prius into a stone wall? Does it seem strange to anyone else that there are no passengers in the car during any of these reported incidents the only witnesses are the drivers!
Anyone who believes this story i suggest you listen to the full 25 minute tape of his 911 call. The operator says repeatedly to push and hold the ignition button for 5 seconds (which he ignored). She also repeatedly said to put it in neutral which he said later he ignored because he was afraid his car would flip. ??? Oh and lets not forget that when the officer examined his car, the accelerator was in its normal position. Like i said before, listen to the tape first before you buy this story!
The guy may be faking I don't know. But a lot of people don't know how to handle emergencies. Perhaps he panicked and forgot about the shifting to Neutral or shutting down engine. Or maybe the car's shifter and on/off button are controlled ultimately by a computer. The accelerator and brakes are computer controlled from what I read about Prius.
If anything, this proves that this guy doesn't know how to drive.
Even if his car was "unintendedly accelerating", he needed an officer to tell him to try the emergency brake? That never occured to him? Why didn't he try turning the car off? Why would you call 911 as your first response?
This guy is a piece of shit! So he traveled 30 miles before the cops came. He could have put the car in neutral(you need to hold it in N), held down the power button(turn off) he could have dragged the car along the median, he could have braked before the car got to 90mph. The prius isn't fast by any means. He needs to know how to operate a car in the first place. Looks like someone is trying to score a lawsuit with Toyota!! Hope they find this as fraud. Give him a call. 619-957-7355.
And once again CBS can't find the story or truth. Was their some law preventing your camera men from following the car and filming the investigation? I know, it doesn't make good TV if you dragged a piece of hand cut carpet from the drivers footwell - or how about filming the floor where his foot was instead of the shot of the front wheel. Are you people brain dead or you just don't want to know what to shot?
Ain't it funny, some guy finds a syringe in his Coke can, then all of a sudden everybody's finding syringes in their Coke cans. I remember all the bogus claims about Audi 5000s so called "sudden acceleration' issues. None of it was true. None of this is true either, I bet.
"obviously if I can have a problem, andybody can have a problem" this idiot actually said that. Turn off the key you you complete moron. this man is a shameful american... i hope you read this you coward. if you have kids.... they are ashamed to know that you are a shameful coward lier.... american auto makers obviously make better lies than they do cars. lies lies lies lies
This guy is a complete idiot. Why would you not immediately put the car in neutral? why would you not shut off the engine immediately? the accelerator was floored... he time to call the police, and the officer had time to save him? crap. this man is a coward lier and a puppet. what is this country coming to? It's a lie... all of it, and our corrupt politicians involvement to to allow this type of corrupt business environment of cheating, lying, and stealing. The new american way.
This story is BS!.... the car, the guy, the story,.... it's all crap. I want this story to be investigated, i want this man to be put in jail and the little piggy (california police officer).... there is a good witness. LOL More media lies. This country and the way we do business is crap too. it's no wonder why other countries hate usa. it's because we are so ignorant to have allowed business as usual to be... cheating, stealing, and lies.
The story this guy is telling is full of holes. First, you can see by the way he tells his story, he isn't being entirely truthful. Second, the prius is one of the only cars toyota makes that disables the throttle if both the brake and accelerator are pressed. And finally who calls the police for help when their car is out of control?? That is unless you're looking for attention and to give the media something to report on the evening news
@johnsmithy12345 Yes, and it's interesting how the officer shows up just in time to save the day.... I think that would be a record breaking response time for the california police. And, if you would want to use a police officer as a credible witness, why use a california cop?
The toyota prius dose not let the driver comand the car the computer turns it on and off.the prius also is drive by wire this means that driver does not control the gas or brake. The software cause the problem and the car decides it wants to screw things up you cant do anything about it.
the prius being an idle stop car meaning when it comes to a rest stops the engine does not have a neutral and the car makes all commands the computer puts it in neutral the driver has no direct control over the engine or transmission like cars in the past. If the computer decides to go fast you cant shut it down because the computer decides that's not safe at 65. you cannot switch gears it only has drive and park and it wont put it in park at speed. the brakes are electric as well
I love how people say things that are so untrue. First, the brakes on the prius are not electric. It has a feature which allows regeneration of electricity (using the electic motor) which is a supplement to the conventional disk/caliper system. Second, the prius does have a neutral which can be selected at any speed. And finally and most damming, it has a brake override feature which would have returned the engine to idle if both pedals are depressed. Please learn the facts before posting.
yes in fact there is no mechanical connection between the brake pedal and system your dumbass is making up fake specs. For the record I am an ase certified technician who has been certified to work on the prius Im one of the only mechanics in my shop that can do so.The computer controls the brakes.Investigate before you speak
@ben1969350. Check out the video on leftlanenews demonstrating how you can put the prius in neutral at highway speed. Once again, you're wrong. And yes, the brakes on the prius are hydraulic, not electric like youre saying. You're not convincing anyone here you're a mechanic buddy.
