Dynasty Warriors 7 Mini-Review (and a look back)

dynasty warriors 7 was a major improvement even though there is no free mode and love this game...i just hope keep the improvements coming in dynasty warriors 8 and bring back free mode.

I love this game in the series. It will be pretty hard to top this one, music, stages and scenery along with the return of the classic hack and slash along with an added realistic twist to it. Love it. 4.5/5 In the series.

The thing I hate about part 2 was that it was on a blue Compaq disc, later did I know the fat ps2 was the problem and not the disc, so any compaq game was a no buy for me after I bought this and Jurrassic park operation genesis I just never picked up a blue disc again returning them more than 5 times I gave up and said to myself, WHyyyyyyy!

I fully agree with this. Thank you kaseius. I'm am tired of ign reviewing these games. They do not take the time to review the game and call it repetitive. Dynasty Warriors changes it formula. You can't call Dynasty Warriors 7 the same. Look at sports games: Same gameplay ,high reviews. You actually took the time to review this game and give it a decent review. Thank you again

Xaihou dun was the 1st character I ever used but my favorite was zhu xu, up until 3 launched and out came MENG HUO! best character in any game.

Big fan of DW2 to 4 but i wish they would reinvent the whole series I don't want to say it but a major "reboot" (God I hate that word) is in dire need:

- Make it more serious and gritty (Major Improvement in graphics)

- Make it a open world where u can go from battle to battle across China

- Allow the player to control near by units (add new units e.g. Cavalry)

- New gamplay mechanics (take enemy weapons and fog of war)

- Much needed A.I improvement

@RedPandaInc Yh i hav da game but i'm talking bout the DW series. Koei need make more of an effort like they did with Bladestorm still needed some tweaks here and there but was very refreshing from Koei. I don't even think they'll make a sequal to it because it didn't sell tht many units

i would also like to state, make more generic officers into playable ones.........although i am pissed i can't play as the Nanman (other then in Conquest mode.........and there are no nanman models for the soldiers.........angers me greatly (theys my favorite faction))

and the generic officers have some degree of differences (hell, Huche'Er looks like a god damn ninja)

Loved the Review! I think what I like best about this game series is that it leaves so much room for imagination. It is how you perceive the game and its characters that make it fun.

wait i watched the video again and you said that you follow the story of the kingdom/faction... does this mean you dont select a character and follow their story?

On DW2 i loved the bodyguards especially when they were fully upgraded... who else liked them??? I thought they were beast!

how do you get 14 skill points after killing an officer? is that for playing on chaos or hard ? >_< I can only get +12 on normal

The drill idea comes from Tadakatsu Honda's weapon on Sengoku Basara 2, one of the best characters on the game.

I noticed in the PS3 version, when you choose the BGM, you can play it, but in the Xbox one (which I have) it doesnt play?

I have to admit, I enjoy the Dynasty Warrior series even though the core gameplay hasn't changed. One thing that has always bugged me though is how incompetent your allies are. Nothing is more frustrating than having to race across the map to save a guy so you don't fail the entire mission. Do you find you still have to do this? Or are they for the most part self-reliant?

@kaseius that was allways a problem for me to, seems like the player allways have to be a 1man army, even in empire where its supposed to be more tactical. did they remove the silly *capture bases* thing? i cant tell.

Love the running montage. Not liking the plastic looking horses in DW7. Although I suppose with the detail on the armour & faces, they had to cut corners with horses opening their mouths to make noise.

Hm, the graphics are kinda cheap. Much improvement over previous installments, but it kinda looks like a PS3 launch title, which is unacceptable because it's 2011...

Doesn't bother me personally though because I'm not a graphics whore

@HptmSteinhauer I think it looks pretty good. Nice draw distance, tons of people on screen -- it's not the best, but it's definitely not that bad. I would have put up a DW6 comparison, but I don't own the game right now, so... :(

@kaseius Yeah I'm sure the number of enemies and size of level have something to do with it. I didn't think about the draw distance actually... Just nowadays you see noticeably more level and player model detail on a PS3 game than that. Maybe it's because I was just playing God of War 3 recently...

Definitely won't say the graphics hurt the game though. And fans of the series certainly won't care lol

@jabbamk1 I prefer Basara a little more, to be honest. I think that the action is done a bit better, but both are really really enjoyable. Something about the controls and flow of SB just feels a bit more right to me. The story presentation in SB is laughable though, and it has no co-op. It's kind of limited compared to DW7. :(

@TheDickshark The reason I didn't include DW1 (aside from not having it), is that it's actually a different series in Japan, and over here they decided to keep the name and just make it the second game in the series. No idea why!

In regards to the series the music is always great and the cheesy acting makes the story really come alive especially when cow cow was in a game with cow pi...

As to a favorite character how about Zhang He or Yue Ying?
