  • It says here in the beginning that the band's name is Strawberry Swithblade. I can't laughing at the error. No pun intended.

  • An ex-friend turned me onto them while we were stoned. I was already rabidly into 80s music, so it was like Candyland. I wore their album out in 2003.

  • ベストヒットUSAのやつだ、懐かしいっす。

  • The girls' Scotts accents sound more discernible on this track

  • Well, now we all know where Harajuku style came from.

  • Switchblade Symphony is much better...

  • 0:08 LOL @ the typo, "Swithblade"

  • Made in Scotland...but big in Japan. I think Rose McDowall is still performing live gigs.

  • It's like a train wreck. I can't look away from their outfits.

  • lol ;D nice dancing!

  • A world I'd never seen...!

  • The girl in the shorter dress makes me hard.

  • They look so funny dancing with those dresses

  • sort of feels like an updated version The Cake's performance of 'You Can Have Him'

  • @crashsite000 But you have to remember,Strawberry Switchblade performed this song in 1986.

  • @crashsite000 Updated version of Cake's You can have him? This is a 1986 music video/song.

  • @Supersweetguy ...no, not the band, Cake. I was referring to 60s girl group, "The Cake". FKEv1CJWJyg

  • The Pipettes in utero, obviously.

  • they had huge influence on Japanese pop culture

  • This song's cheesiness and stupidity is only matched by its brilliance and catchiness.

  • Diva destruction stole their hair look! haha

  • Love them. Finest bubblegum.

  • to the kids who just discovered this act and loved their music, there's much much more fabulous eighties music to discover :)

  • The faces that launched a thousand animes

  • i love strawberry switchblade, brings back good memories lol... i have two original import eps from them

  • Now, I remember this song during my teenage years. I now know who sang this song. So cool. These girls were cute. Awesome!!!!

  • i love em!,somewhere in my collection i have a strawberry shaped 7inch single.

  • they were incredible...........!!!

  • I loved these chicks when i was a kid

  • new wave icon,, i like who knows what love is,, slow and relaxing tune.. they were billed against propaganda before,, if i remember correctly.

  • 1:44 is she actually playing the guitar here?

  • must realise that THEY created the gothic-lolita style first

  • 80's baby!!!!!

  • i'm not saying they are scene kids, but it looks like scene kids stole their style

  • what scene? gothic lolita? @starberry2947

  • @talktal

no i mean the scene kids with the big hair and pounds of eyeliner.

though they did inspire gothic lolita too.

  • 叶姉妹......

  • They miss spelled Switchblade.

  • thank you posting this amazing video.

  • very cute!!

  • the small one lives next door to me lol

  • @gazza155 is she still this beautiful ? i heard she practises magic .

  • @txfantastic She is beautiful, looks like that chic from the Bangles was a wanna be.

  • @SweetBabeLovinGH very good

  • いきなり小林克也ですね。

  • that guitar came out of nowhere. she's magic!

  • Boris Williams, ex The Cure, is the drummer!

  • don't even compare them to scene kids

  • SkateFastRockHard:

yeah i know, i just hate the whole idea of scene... (don'thate me for it) xD

  • @TheBlackenedWHITE yeah, because they're from the past, obviously they have some timeless aesthetic authenticity, everything was perfect in the 80s, nothing bad ever happened, everyone did everything for the right reasons, and we should all be ashamed of ourselves for having changed it

  • @GlassPike did you just reply to the wrong comment or something?if not, why the fuck do you think that i'm nostalgic about the 80s?

  • @GlassPike yes

  • @TheBlackenedWHITE Whoa, whoa! Who compared this to scene kids??

  • @clyneandras some guy, don't really remember who, it was more than a year ago, i think he said something in the sense "they're the beginning of the scene kids"or something like that.

  • @TheBlackenedWHITE Good Lord. Ugh, kids these days... >.<

  • @clyneandras i checked the older comments and it was a guy named SkateFastRockHard. (3. page of the comment section)

  • @TheBlackenedWHITE This precedes Scene kids, but maybe this band was an influence on the style, who knows?

  • @SkateFastRockHard:. scene kids? fuck you

  • Now I have to dig in the crates to see if I still have this album. I bought it in 1985 and had the U.K. version.

I wonder how much J-Pop and the Harijuku/ Fruits scene was inspired by this band.

  • they great miss them tho

  • rose is very talented

  • Great song, silly dance moves.

    The redhead was pretty.

  • I thought they were a one hit wonder!!! I didnt know they had any other songs out!!

  • So much bubblegum here, my hands are sticking to the keyboard as I type. But it's catchy. :-)

  • she has a mind of her own and shes going to use it

  • thats my mates mom lol

Rose McDowalls kids my best friend !!!!

    =D Yaaya

  • You are so lucky!!! omg jealous much!

  • Jealous!!!

  • Did this song make her rich?

  • Wikipedia says:

However, they attained little more than the unenviable title of one-hit wonders, when all subsequent releases to "Since Yesterday" failed to reach the Top 50 in the UK Singles Chart. In order to pay their tax bills, the band recorded two singles solely for the Japanese market. By early 1986, the group disbanded.

So no, if after more than a year after their only hit they had to release 2 more singles to pay their bills, they didn't get rich of it.

  • な、懐かしすぎる

    しかも、ベストヒットUSAじゃん!

  • I love this song :)

  • I love Strawberry Switchblade! What became of them? Does anyone have some trivia on them? Mark

  • They sounds really good. Btw, they remind me of actual j-pop bands and their way to dress reminds me of those girls i see in Tokyo streets. I think that's so interesting.

  • Your taking about the Harajuku Girls! Gwen Stefani wrote a song about them years ago....Their accessories are deadly!

  • I looked them up as my dad says I look like rose all the time and my dress sense is like theirs :L

  • I want to meet you if you look like Rose and dress like her...she's walking sex!

  • Ehehe.

  • photos!

  • 可愛い。懐かしい。

    当時、良く聴いてました。

  • I also just now discovered Strawberry Switchblade, and I love it. I absolutely adore Rose's hair in this.

  • excellent!!!

  • i really love these two girls since i was in Grade 5 yes! go 80's!

  • i can't believe i only just discovered these girls ~! this is excellent <3

  • @d1sintegration I remember this song was played over the radio way back in 1986. I love the pop melody of this song.

  • @d1sintegration I know right my friend came dressed as one and HAD to look them up after that. How did I miss this?!

  • @d1sintegration

    Mee too ;)

  • HEATHER MAY QUEEN

  • Someone can't spell swithblade Lol!

  • they used to rival with propaganda..both made some great songs

  • They are so cute arn't they

  • Comment removed

  • You know what? I think they invented scene style in a bit.

  • Oh they definitely had a big style influence on many youth subcultures.

  • i am thinking 4nonblondes must have seen strawberries.

  • I just love this - espesh the ribbons in their hair...must buy some :)

  • the year 1986....

  • This song makes me smile.

  • That is the cutest and most lovable guitar riff ever heard and seen in my life ... very anime! Jill is drop dead gorgeous!

  • These girls are - and always will be - geniouses. Love it.

  • evil geniuses...

  • Classic song from a couple of strange little girls. They are Hansel and Gretel and the witch rolled into one - everyone of their songs is janus faced. They're dolls, but the dolls from Barbarella.

  • if you look at Mana from Malice Mizer, this might be where he got his look from. lol.

  • She pulled a guitar out of her blouse. Hehe... blouse..

  • the thing in her head is huge

  • lol! My 11 year old daughter is "scene" so I showed her this and told her they were just copying from the 80s when I was a teen. Sheesh. My friend and I were obsessed with SS.

  • I'm not even an 80s fan and I like Strawberry Switchblade. go figure.

  • Fabulous Duo ,Cmon, somebody bring 'em back ,just sooo 'Camp',gawd , they'd do so well at the Astoria or G.A.Y. club .

  • i agree ...the dark haired one lives in our village! they will fab x

  • legendary...

  • great song from an unforgettable era.

  • Oh I remember these! I had their album (hangs head in shame). Seriously though some of the songs on the album were good and I wanted to dress like them!

  • so did I... twelve inch single anyway :D

  • no like the backround music it suits them its litle girl music!

  • the backing music sucks,if you heard the original it was so much betterwith just guitars.

  • I agree, but both versions are superb.

  • when they got signed up the record company destroyed their wnderful songs with all this digital electronic guff,i saw them many times in glasgow when it was just guitars...ah memories! trees and flowers is a classic.

  • big in Japan no doubt

  • Well, actually they are big in Japan. Easy to see why, they should do a come back here. With the hair and ribbons.

  • I still have their cd found it in Greenhills, bought it for P700+ in 2001.

  • "swithblade" haha, excellent.

  • I remember this vid. I haven't seen this in 20 years. Who knew it was Strawberry Switchblade? I remember I always had a thing for the black-haired one.

  • back in the day i secretly loved this song, hahaha! i was afraid my friends would kick my ass if they knew i listened to this. funny because now when we talked about it, they also had their secret songs and some of them liked this as well.

  • So the Redhead is Straberry, the darkhaired is Switchblade. One is Wicked, and other is Sweet? mmmmm......

  • Miss those New Wave moves. I love Jill Bryson!!!(taller one). Incredible body language.

  • i had a 12inch version of this one..yaya good old days.

  • Does anyone find them so adorable when they go "ba ba ba ba baba ba ba, baba" and bang their fists in the air?

  • i put this on a mix for a friend once and she got all weirded out. sheesh. oh well haha

  • didn't realize this is like a lesbian song. but i still luv it. a classic.

  • A lesbian song? Hmm...thats actually kinda hot. Is it just me or are these girlies addictive?

I like the outfits...I can see where the J-Pop singers get their style from...Awesome!

  • Oh, and for those of you easily offended, I didnt mean that in a derogitory manner...I was actually referring to the music, but upon closer inspection I came across a tad sleazey.

  • This choreography is AMAZING!!

  • they remind me of litle dolls

  • cute!

  • oh man they look hilarious dancing like that... Nonetheless a classic for sure. 5/5

  • Rose & Jill are the best ever! sweet, adorable punk-pop-goth pussycats ;-) I don't think any girl band managed to create anything even close to what they have created with Strawberry Switchblade. and they had so much fun doing it, you can tell straight away! to anybody who is interested in other Rose Mcdowall's musical explorations and creations I sincerely recommend her second band- Sorrow.

  • Legendary. To the two sour-pusses above me, go put on a Hilary Duff record and leave the COOL '80s underground bands out of your negative shitstorm.

They were friggin' adorable, twisted genius occult enthusiasts who deliberately made bubblegum pop for exactly what it is. There's such a haunting beauty in tracks of theirs like "10 James Orr Street" and "Black Taxi" that to this day is chambertombed to my poisoned little heart.

  • ahaha! clint is right! even though i am only 23, this is better than the music now. i love these girls after i saw the since yesterday video a while back, thanks to clint.

  • and i ran the since yesterday song across and my dad said my mother and i used to listen to it when i was little...never knew that! but ive always had a thing for 80s music...

  • yea black taxi is great

  • Don't look up things you don't like. ;o

    Excellent video~! ^^

  • These gals rock and suck all at the same time! I love it!!!

  • This song is like CRACK.

  • Scottish Lassies

  • Oh my God! I'm in love with both of them!

  • Adorable.

  • CLASSIC AND COLORFUL FOR KEEPS
