  • If you took out the words "so", "um", "like", and "basically", this video would only be 20 seconds long. Where are the educated people? What an elementary and oversimplified explanation; must be a presentation to a 3rd grade class.

  • @2184roberto There's always one contrarian in every youtube comment section. Did you take 'speech and debate' in high school? My oldest did, and she corrects everyone now, including her dad who has a masters degree!

  • that loose bun ponytail is turning me on so fucking much!!!!

  • man, i would do her in a heartbeat!

  • The moon isnt real the CIA invented it

  • So does 'differentiation' explain the rocky (heavy) inner planets too?

  • Someone send this video to Bill O'Reilly!

  • Doesnt explain why the moon is hollow, doesnt explain how it can be one fourth the size of the earth, compared to all the other planets in the solar system do not have a moon in comparable size to itself.. Doesnt explain how it is 400 times smaller then the sun and during a eclipse with the distance almost completely covers it perfectly. Nasa = half truths. Nasa = government agency. So you do the math.

  • @tanarus77 "the sun and during a eclipse with the distance almost completely covers it perfectly"

The moon is 400times closer than the sun by coincidence. On Apollo 15 mission reflectors were left on the moon. everyday for the past 40 in new Mexico, photons of light are shot at the moon which reflect off the mirrors and return to earth. over the past 40 years it has been observed that the moon is moving away at 3.8cm per year. so eventually there wont be a perfect eclipse

  • No the planets where formed by mind...energy of the mind. Strange Hu?

  • what ever nasa calls it, planet x / nibru/ nemesis/ maybe it was one of its moons that hit the earth?

  • maybe it was one of nibrus moons that hit the earth

  • randomness and chance...Did that happen to create all the moons of other planets too? or just the earths moon?

  • I love this girl

  • God put it there.

  • october 7th is my birthday!

  • ok but what did happen to that mars sized asteroid that hit, maybe it is planet x?

  • Pretty fucking hot!!!

  • The initial conditions when the gas and cloud dust started to rotating I mean.

  • @RationalEmotive tuck it down

  • yeah, i see what ur saying, why should the earth be perfectly spherical initially, it could have been a bit that sticks out that broke of, hence the lack of iron in its composition and its previous closer orbit.

  • Do planetologists actually believe this archaic view? The spin of a protoplanetary system creates centrifugal force to spin outwardly & tears bodies apart NOT aggregates & builds planets. Plasmospheres in protracted stellar ejecta-tails coalesce into planets. The Moon was not formed from Earth; the Ancient Record relays it was a massive gaseous giant that dwarfed Jupiter; named Kingu. A cosmocataclysm tore its atmosphere away & hurled its iron-silica core into Earth orbit, becoming our Moon.

  • The moon was created by planet x (Nibiru) and its bianary sun....the hit pushed planet x to the outer parts of our solar system but it will be returning in 2012 to cross between us and mars...in a way what she said it true...

  • One major point about our solar system formation that is illogical; metals are denser and will make their way to the core of a body (like Earth), then shouldn't the sun have formed with a metal core? How would this affect initial fusion? Would a metal core help prove the electric sun? Intelligent women are hot!

  • Intelligent women are sexy.

  • Their "Best estimate for how planets form" ... is pretty weak. Rocks just accrete and stick together ? No, they don't. Take a look at the Asteroid Belt. The Moon is the same density as stuff orbiting Saturn and until there's a better explanation than, I'm going with the idea that the Moon came from that region.

  • it's not like rocks would just pop out from around saturn and head towards earth either... they have a coherent story, however unintuitive it might be. who knows, if i live a billion year i might just win the lottery one day.

  • I watched this explanation when I went to the Smithsonian. The animation helped.

  • I was watching the whole thing before this video was posted. Awesome stuff. Really lively presentation.

  • keep lick'en fool.

  • Shes only a NASA scientist, *phf* what could she know?

Sorry she failed to convey a complete understanding of astronomy to you in four and a half minutes you fucking moron.

I assume your preferred explanation is

    "Magic Man made it happen!"

    That's so much better.

  • well all is not perfect. you get unlucky dust that formed less impressive things. look at pluto. it's not even a planet now :(

  • Moron.
