Agreed. this is all very true. I knew a beekeeper many years ago and his bees started acting strangely. Today, I know another beekeeper who's bees are also acting strangely, getting diseased, abandoning the hives and so on. This is all over the course of about 20 years. I also notice we do not see the famed bumble bee with the big yellow band (around the body) anymore or very, very rarely. Gradually, I've been seeing much less, next to none over the years. ccd is a result of several variables, but mainly from poor commercial beekeeping practices. The commercial guys rob the bees of their main food which is honey, they use all kinds of chemicals in the hive, they truck the bees thousands of miles across the country. All of these things lead to strees which make the bees extremely vulnerable to disease.
The commercial guys want to make every dollar they can, and they dont give a damn about their bees.

I don't think we can deny that pesticides play a role. It's extremely difficult to believe this stuff can't affect us if we ingest it. It's poison, for godsake. @LemonOdette - i can't remember exactly what prompted me to go entirely organic for eating (and clothes as much as possible, tho there's not even one shop like that in all of scotland) and so forth, i already was a green consumer in the sense anything i bought i'd get the most eco-friendly available (recycled, reused, etc). the price is the only thing that had previously stopped me, and availability. i guess i just realised health & wellbeing & nature is more important.

Almost every commonly used pesticide on the market today is a plant extract of some sort, or a synthetic molecule derived from said plant extracts. California is the only state I have found that has done studies on the effects on humans, let alone opn bees and both studies found harm. Real plant extracts, meaning the oils from compressed plants, can be amazingly beneficial. Wintergreen oil used on cotton in a beehive will drive out some of the predators that invade the colony. Neonics have to be used parts per billion to be safe!

Agreed. this is all very true. I knew a beekeeper many years ago and his bees started acting strangely. Today, I know another beekeeper who's bees are also acting strangely, getting diseased, abandoning the hives and so on. This is all over the course of about 20 years. I also notice we do not see the famed bumble bee with the big yellow band (around the body) anymore or very, very rarely. Gradually, I've been seeing much less, next to none over the years. Our government has lied to us about the dangers of these seeds saying they do not cross gene pools and yet genetically engineered seeds result from messing with gene pools of plants, animals and bacteria that would never have crossed together. Write your Congressperson and say no genetically engineered trees, plants. USDA just OK'ed GE alfalfa.

Reduction of diet quality contributes to CCD susceptibility. Bees produce enzymes which go into honey resulting in anti-microbial properties. These enzymes are manufactured from the nutritive pollens they eat.. Collection of pollen monocultures and removal of honey results in dormant season CCD. When enzyme productivity is low (winter) bees are given poor food substitutes: the hive’s anti-microbial properties are compromised. Then we add clothianidin/chemicals to the environment, not wise!

The EPA scientists are ignored by whoever makes the final decision to OK Clothianidin. @mehigh2marsiansky if u have the space, fruit trees are always good and are always long term, but growing tomatoes,squash,watermellon,or thinks u enjoy growing :) and if you dont have the ground or space, u can always use 5 gallon buckets or containers to grow your food. if u had a place to put a hive up that would be really good to, to increase the probabity of the survival of the bees, the hives are so easy to set up, its so simple and utube has so many videos now showing how to set it up.thx!

ccd is a result of several variables, but mainly from poor commercial beekeeping practices. The commercial guys rob the bees of their main food which is honey, they use all kinds of chemicals in the hive, they truck the bees thousands of miles across the country. All of these things lead to strees which make the bees extremely vulnerable to disease.
The commercial guys want to make every dollar they can, and they dont give a damn about their bees.

Lots of commercial beekeepers love their bees. The chemicals used in hives are to kill varroa mites and small hive beetles. GMO pollen has been proven to weaken bee immune systems and then they have to detoxify from chemicals. True bees are trucked but Iknow many who lost bees don't truck them. Chemical pollution grows by the day

Those who use chemicals to treat for varroa are actually hurting the bees in the long run. In essence, the beekeeper who uses chemicals are creating bees with very weak immune systems.

apparently it's organic fortnight in the uk justnow...glasgow used to have a food show etc about it, but not last year and i don't know if there's anything this year.

Monsanto's new product "round up ready" means the genes of the soybean have been altered so that their weed killing chemical that will kill anything...won't kill the soy.
This company controlled 2% of the US soy crop in 2001, by 2008 they controlled 80%, soon there will be no more nonGM soybeans, monsanto will have exterminated the original plant and holds a patent on the modified plant.

no bees here in nc this year. haven't seen a hummingbird either. i have written my congressmen and senators on other issues and always get "blown off" with form letter that tells me , yes, we know there are problems but we are doing all we can do, blah blah blah.
the bees have gone. i'd say we are going to starve.

A few years ago, when all this started, that was a more common conclusion that was jumped to, however, over the last 2 years, that trend shows up less and less in scientific publications, which would indicate that newer studies are ruling it out more and more. When you search "ccd", al of the articles that make claims about neonics are at least 2 yrs old, or from agenda-based sites.

I do not know what fungus you think caused CCD for worldwide there is still no definitive answer for CCD yet most conclusions point to pesticides as the most probable cause. See my second video disappearance of the bees sequel 2 for more information.

Every collapsed colony that has been treated with flumagellin has made a quick, full recovery. Almost every commonly used pesticide on the market today is a plant extract of some sort, or a synthetic molecule derived from said plant extracts. The reasons the synthetic derivatives are made/used instead of the natural extracts is because they usually smell better, or in the case of neonicotinoids THEY ARE MUCH SAFER THAN THE ACTUAL NATURALLY OCCURRING PLANT.

Show me an independent scientific study that validates your assumption that synthetic derivatives are safer. California is the only state I have found that has done studies on the effects on humans, let alone opn bees and both studies found harm. Real plant extracts, meaning the oils from compressed plants, can be amazingly beneficial. Wintergreen oil used on cotton in a beehive will drive out some of the predators that invade the colony. Neonics have to be used parts per billion to be safe!
