Certainly along with Prestia one of the legends of funk bass. Am amazing piece of work. Up there with So Only Much Oil In The Ground for shere stamina and bravado.
@MrFruityGerry I agree but the pop music has grown bigger a lot since Stevie's time, and now there's much more "serious" and "entertaner" music listeners. I just think that pop music through mass media have too much room... It's just harder to find THE needle in a haystack
I sure do miss the Stomp cover!!!!! Louis Johnson is a bad mofo!!! Nathan Watts is great too! I LOVE FUNK BASS. Anyone know who used to play bass for the band Slave w/ Steve Arrington? He has great bas lines also.
Now presumably all these variations that Marlowe has spent so much time and energy to learn were improvised by Nathan Watts on the studio track, which is goddamn incredible if you ask me.
I think no more incredible than this. It takes a lot to imitate it becaus the subtleties and I don't think it is any less amazing than improvising it.
I always have to come back and see this. Excellent work, man. You can seriously hold down a groove.
