The real reason why it's tougher for him to be "great" (as many say) for Argentina is that when he plays for the national team squad, he plays the role that Xavi and Iniesta play for Barcelona. He distributes to the other players and takes part in the scoring as well. @taffer33 you can't really compare Maradona with Messi, they were different times, and I would say that football nowadays it's way more complex, tactic, technical and difficult if you ask me. Players are faster, younger, and defenders are not like they were 30 years ago anymore, where empty spaces was almost a regular thing and it was easier to break through lines and personal marks were rarely used. Not saying that old times football was easy, but it was less complex if you ask me.

@megadmanz Thing is though teams win world cups, not just players. All those you mentioned were in great teams. Ronaldo was in a great brazil team, Messi isn't in a great argentina. It's terrible. @megadmanz You don't need to move around, loyality is a great thing in football. Zidane won club honours in all these teams but they were all great teams. If Messi went to City now he'd win things, if he went to Bayern Munich, he'd win things. If he went to Milan, he'd win things. These are hardly tiny clubs what zidane played for and he didn't do it all himself, he was in great teams like messi is in right now.

@taffer33 you can't really compare Maradona with Messi, they were different times, and I would say that football nowadays it's way more complex, tactic, technical and difficult if you ask me. Players are faster, younger, and defenders are not like they were 30 years ago anymore, where empty spaces was almost a regular thing and it was easier to break through lines and personal marks were rarely used. Not saying that old times football was easy, but it was less complex if you ask me.
