I have loved the dead and the kinks my whole life, this song does remind me of some great grateful dead songs. I dont understand why other people like to put their fellow mankind down for their thoughts and opinions. Because I am listening to this right now , my closed-minded husband realizes we have nothing in common. I am so sorry for his loss. He will not get beyond a few bands he loved fro the 90's and cannot go forward.. Be nice to each other people.
@cindy91365 Amen to that! Be nice to other people and everything else becomes a lot simpler. Sorry your husband can't get out of his rut. His loss is right!!
Wow, heard this song on the Toyota Prius commercial and was thinking it was American bluegrass and here it was released 41 years ago by the Kinks. Incredible.
@amesburyroad I was think the same thing. At first I was thinking Son Volt or Avett Brothers...I am humbled once again at the awesome influence the kinks have on modern music.
@purplestuff actually, st stephen by the grateful dead was recorded two years before this song was even released, then released in 1969, a year before this song, in 1970.
I dont think it was a matter of ripping people off, their were in completely different parts of the world.
just noticing a similarity between two groups of very fine musicians. this is really late, seeing as you posted eight months ago.
Thanks for posting for those who never got to experience the time and the place to pick up the music... Its really appreciated when a person my age can finaly find this music, such good taste.

You people are high on patchouli. This song sounds nothing like Saint Stephen by The Grateful Dead. They aren't even in the same chord structure.

Someday the music industry and critics will recognize the importance of Ray Davies and the Kinks. I just gotta be free to do what I want...
