I currently own two reindeer (mother got killed), and a coyote (he was a cub out on my property, and I didn't see the mother for two weeks with him, so I figured that he was abandoned), and I can tell you that all of these animals can feel, and _will_ be your best friend. Protecting their environment and saving them has nothing to do with their nature. There is no point that anyone would try to prove bears are nice and fluffy. That is not a factor in protecting them.. And in any case they are not, these are wild animals and it takes just one bad day for the bear or his instincts to kick in for some reason and this guy is finished.

Well sure, you can raise any wild animal from a pup and it grow bonds with you. But all our pets have thrown fits or gotten made before. I stepped on my cats tail one time and she took a swipe at me! Step on a bears foot and wham! Your out for the count. So I don't exactly reccomend having a pet that can overpower you..lol
I actually know someone with a pet black bear he has had for years. It is like a big puppy dog, and completely docile. I don't recommend having a bear as a pet, but I doubt this one will become dangerous. It seems pretty happy with its home, and I'm sure the family feeds it well.

Animals have slower logic than humans, so they can get excited and react quickly. Bears or Lions do not eat carnivorous meat such as humans or their kinds, they just attack to danger. If you raise them from birth, they will never suspect the danger from your side. So these guys talk about their dreams....

The bond is real but it is still a wild animal and the biggest mistake would be to consider it domesticated. Even if the bear does nothing to him, it may severely maul someone else in his life. Wild animals should be set free and raised with the goal of setting them free - like Born Free.
Grizzlies are probably not a great roommate, but they are omnivores that eat plants and animals that are already dead. They only rarely attack when they are scared or defending a cub.
Agreed they were going way over the top with this "he might get peckish and bite your arm off" stuff. That said it is true you never really know what will set them off though. It is possible something could scare them or freak them out without you knowing.
Bears, like dogs, have an amazing sense of smell, and wouldn't mistake their life-long companion for a random deer in a million years.. so unless the dude starves it for two weeks and then covers himself in BBQ sauce I doubt its going to try and eat him. Animals are not machines that are incapable of differentiating between other animals and what is friend or foe, if that were the case predator-prey relationships wouldn't even exist.
Look... wild animal trainers will tell you in a heartbeat, train them all you like, they'll do what you teach them to do. But do NOT mistake them for a pet or friend, as they are STILL wild. Tame is not domesticated. A zoo-wolf doing a stunt has the SAME instincts as a wild wolf in a pack setting. You make a wrong move, they WILL see you as prey. This is how trainers of wild animals (bears, wolves, lions, tigers) approach things. This guy is NOT a role model for interspecies relations.
as domesticated as it may seem I still think its dangerous to have what is still a wild animal in the house. Its not a domesticated breed that has been bred to be calm or obediant, it still essentially has all the raw instincts that are tempered only by conditioning. Casey totally knows what he is doing & is no Treadwell fool. He is an educated wildlife expert who respects Brutus & all bears. If you go visit them at Montana Grizzley Encounter you will see that Casey is fantastic with Brutus & all Bears.

It's disgusting for both of you to sit there and proclaim Casey will die. FYI- Doug & Lynne Seus have been raising & training bears for many years. They had a bear named Bart for 23 years & he was loving, gentle & never hurt anyone, even though he worked on many movie sets. Yes, some wild bears will not hesitate to gobble you up, but to say that you can't wait for Brutis to kill Casey is pretty pathetic. Casey raised Brutis from infancy and it's highly unlikely that he would ever harm him.

Animals have slower logic than humans, so they can get excited and react quickly. Bears or Lions do not eat carnivorous meat such as humans or their kinds, they just attack to danger. If you raise them from birth, they will never suspect the danger from your side. So these guys talk about their dreams....

I call this guy an asshole because he's also risking the life of others, mainly his family. Hey, if you feel like scratching a bear's ass cause you wanna be his "friend" - fine. Good luck, man. If you happen to get mauled to death, too bad, but at least it was your choice only. I'd rather have people high-five a bear then shot em in the head. But do it on your own. Don't pretend being cocky Animal-Jesus, and don't go around presenting a false image about wild animals.

I think the big difference is the SIZE and power, not the nature or "instincts" of a grizzy bear. The grizzy might freak out and attack you... yeah but so might your dog... or your son, or your sister.

Look - animals have instincts and - dare I say "personalities" just like us. Yourneighbor is just as likely to maim or kill you if you went in his house and trid to drag him out and stuff him n acage. Bu, if he i born in your house and he grows up feeling dependant on you (without poking them etc. a-la Sigmug tiger) then there PROBABLY wont be a problem. But then you hve Columbine and serial killers b/c people THINK too much. = )

The bond is real but it is still a wild animal and the biggest mistake would be to consider it domesticated. Even if the bear does nothing to him, it may severely maul someone else in his life. Wild animals should be set free and raised with the goal of setting them free - like Born Free.

Grizzlies are probably not a great roommate, but they are omnivores that eat plants and animals that are already dead. They only rarely attack when they are scared or defending a cub.

Agreed they were going way over the top with this "he might get peckish and bite your arm off" stuff. That said it is true you never really know what will set them off though. It is possible something could scare them or freak them out without you knowing.

Bears, like dogs, have an amazing sense of smell, and wouldn't mistake their life-long companion for a random deer in a million years.. so unless the dude starves it for two weeks and then covers himself in BBQ sauce I doubt its going to try and eat him. Animals are not machines that are incapable of differentiating between other animals and what is friend or foe, if that were the case predator-prey relationships wouldn't even exist.

Look... wild animal trainers will tell you in a heartbeat, train them all you like, they'll do what you teach them to do. But do NOT mistake them for a pet or friend, as they are STILL wild. Tame is not domesticated. A zoo-wolf doing a stunt has the SAME instincts as a wild wolf in a pack setting. You make a wrong move, they WILL see you as prey. This is how trainers of wild animals (bears, wolves, lions, tigers) approach things. This guy is NOT a role model for interspecies relations.

as domesticated as it may seem I still think its dangerous to have what is still a wild animal in the house. Its not a domesticated breed that has been bred to be calm or obediant, it still essentially has all the raw instincts that are tempered only by conditioning. It just has to decide it wants to be boss one day and that guys arse is grass
