  • All of the songs on Selling England By The Pound are excellent in their own way and this one is no exception.

Steve Hackett is one of the best Brit guitarists of all time.

  • Brano strumentale meraviglioso...

  • After the Ordeal: the worlds most special song without words.

    Isn't it?

  • Selling England By The Pound would be incomplete without this piece (sorry Tony). The piano and nylon string guitar are a perfect match and this is a fantastic exercise of that. Kudos to Tony and Steve. With as many talented and creative minds that were Genesis of old, and being only able (or allowed) to produce 1 record a year (typically) it was inevitable that the lineup would change. I respect their talents too much to put them down after Pete or Steve left.

  • +1 ;)

  • In my opinion, Steve Hackett always added that little extra what Genesis made Genesis. Quickly after he left, Genesis became the toy of Phil Collins and downwards from there.

  • It's funny that Tony Banks didn't want the piece on the album, he never liked it. However it's my favourite instrumental song ever!

  • The best classical piece of the century.

  • beatiful, yes.

  • ok-beautiful...

  • One of the most beautiful Genesis songs ever, and one of the best on Selling England by The Pound. Possibly my favorite instrumental piece of all musical composition.

  • I couldn't agree more. I was actually about to write the same thing. Absolutely wonderful!

  • too much reverb, sound's too clean, you almost can "hear the ties", an ordeal is when you are thrown in fire or in water bound and wait for God (?) to save you, so please Steve even if it's your music, "take off the tie" when you play it !

  • Well mate, the song's called *after* the ordeal. This is a look out onto the battlefield after it goes quiet and the dust settles with the sun low in the horizon in the background with that one person trying to make sense of it all. This version is great, I love the reverb and I wish it was recorded in its entirety so that fans may be able to have both this version and the Genesis version.

  • It's called After the Ordeal because it was the track that followed The Battle Of Epping Forest on Genesis album Selling England By The Pound, where this track orginates from.

  • I love this trio with Steve... so butiful.... i have the acoustic DVD but this song's was not there in 2002.

  • Too much beautiful
