  • You can't do that with an iPod.

  • yea you can, speaker dock

  • I'm planning to recreate this scene with my group in advanced cinematography class. any suggestions???

  • aww

  • this is my fav. movie scene of all time!!!!

  • his face expresses a thousand words, the first word is love,i remember that feeling

  • to know Loyd dobbler is to love Loyd Dobbler....

    Cusack is the man...

    WWJCD

  • OMG! I love this movie and paricularly this scene. Aww I literally cry everytime i see this and say I wish I could date lloyd dobbler or i wish a guy would do that for me Lol

  • What's the name of the song? I like it! (btw John Cusack is one of my favourite actors! Keep it up John!)

  • "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel

  • this is one scene i will always treasure, they dont make movieslike this anymore

  • He has a look of such brave, quiet dignity on his face, confronting the heartbreak and devastation of lost first love like a war hero. Lloyd Dobler is a king among men.

  • One of the most romantic film scenes ever. I want to do that for a girl someday, serenade her.

  • she will love it

  • Whatever happened to ione Skye anyway? She was HOT!

  • Sitting here half drunk with out her, I have to say it did not work.

  • keep your head up brother...things will get better.

  • I'm going to try this on Saturday, hopefully i get her.

  • Did it work?

  • Anyone else seen the T-shirt that has Jesus holding up a boombox like Cusack?

  • this is my all time favorite movie!

  • someone who knows a cheap way to get such a radio ;D

  • What a classic scene, Great movie.

  • That wasn't the story. Her dad had great influence on her decisions, and he convinced her to break up with him

  • this movie is sooo good. They dont make them like they used too

  • this movie will always remind me of lisa Casey, she even looked quite like ione sky and this was our first 'make out' date. our first kiss was during the credits, then we made out in my chevy 'nova' and exchanged mixed tapes (i gave her some smiths and she she gave me various alt rock tunes),then i fell asleep listening to the Cure 'distentegration' - dang i'm old

  • wow that is such a nice story dude!! so cool that you have that kind of memory.

  • yaeh, the power of music-it all just comes flooding back

  • This is me and my wife's favorate movie and when we hear this song when it comes on, it reminds us to keep falling in love with one another...to look into eachother's eyes and see nothing but good things, nothing but love for eachother. Good Movie!!!! Thank you John Cusack you sly (jk).

  • this movie looks alot better then alot of the love storys that come out now

  • To mennion 3: It's romantic because it was the song playing on the radio when they made love for the first time. He was playing the song so she would remember.....(so sweet)

  • Would that work in real life? I would totally slam someone who did that to me for being so unimaginative.

  • oh my gosh, i dont know if boys realize the huge help this gives them

  • you know if you love someone soo much, your willing to not even care if the other neighbors are getting annoyed..if they see you outside holding a boombox over your head thats playing a love song..im sure they can put two and two together.

  • Imagine peter gabriel playing this live outside rosanna arquettes window. This song was written specifically for guys to woo out of league girls.

  • ahh when i saw this movie i fell in love with the song and all that came with it

  • My boyfriend asked me out like this.

I thought it was cute, since he knew I loved this movie xD

  • that's so sweet !

  • i was responding to broadwaymelody33; "that's so sweet" doesn't begin to encapsulate this scene

  • tee hee! =) I kind of melted in his arms by the time I got outside to say "yes"

  • But in today's world, people are more creeped out by this type of love message protocol!

Ancillary to this, it disturbs the peace of the neighborhood!

  • Haha, it was actually about 5 months ago xD

My neighborhood is too much by the city for people to be annoyed xD

  • i did this once, i got my ass kicked

  • Damn, I'm sorry to hear that. I have loved this song FOREVER. To go through with that must have taken GUTS.

  • I wish I was John Cusak's underpants!!! He is a total hottie. Something striking about such a pasty colored man of Irish ancestry with jet black hair and eyes. He is still handsome.

  • I agree totally. But he did look a bit hotter in his 20s than now... =]

  • I couldn't resist that-but only if the guy looked as good as Cusak. If not I'd be runnin'. By the way, looks heavy, that must be why his head is nodding.

  • wow, so me and my girlfriend just watched this movie, then we broke it off two days later. and she said she wants to be friends with potential. ive been thinking about doing the boombox thing but i dont know what will happen.

    any thoughts?

  • This only works in the movies. Everyone else gets a restraining order.

  • Only men get restraining orders. It's almost impossible to file a restraining order against a woman. Unless the one filing it is also a woman.

  • Yeah, nice idea.

Take that boombox and smash her fucking face in with it. Bitch.

  • hahaha well that is a good idea, but it might ruin the chance of us getting back together, of course that is only a might... =]

  • An unconscious woman will be more palpable to your heart's desire friend. But hey dont take my word for it, just ask my cellmate!

  • Nice dude. well if by some turn of chance that does end up happening ill have to let you know how it happens. what brand of boombox do you recomend?

  • My cellmate Sanchez recommends something big. Boombox is more of a philosophical term. A sharp and heavy paperweight IS a boombox IF you believe it is.

  • so your in jail while typing this???

  • go with the flow man be her friend trust me things will mend

  • yeah thats what ive learned in the past so ill take your advice.

by the way has anyone noticed the great conversation, i mean its like a chat room only not. idk, its great though...

  • I love the South Park episode when Stan is trying to get Wendy back. They tell him to go to her window and play Peter Gabriel. So he shows up and blast "Shock the Monkey." Classic.

  • Joe lies,...joe lies....when he cries....

  • I want somebody to do that for me.

  • Oh shit....all right,...let me dust off my boombox....what do you want to hear...Wait! I don't know where you live and we don't have a first time song.....sorry can't help.

  • Well that wasn't very nice.

But seriously, I want someone to do that for me.

  • i've never seen this movie:( but it seems like the most romantic scene ever XD

  • i'm thinking about getting a tattoo of him with the boombox on my leg.

  • If I'm getting any John Cusack tattoo, it's gonna be from Better Off Dead. Lane Myer representin' Mutha fucka!!!

  • hahaha

touche'. another amazing movie for sure.

  • fave song, fave scene, fave movie.. amazing! i wish someone would do this for me..

  • This is THE most romantic movie ever. Lloyd Dobler rules!

  • the last time I did what he's doing to a girl I liked I got yelled at and she started throwing things at me lol women are so weird

  • Women often say they want this kind of attention. The truth is that so much of this romantic stuff is too over-the-top, and sometimes creepy. That being said, this scene rocks.

  • love the song and the movie!!!!

  • Very good Song...

  • fAVORITE MOVIE....

    FAVORITE SONG!!!!!

  • i have been wanting to know what this scene is off for soooo long as it has been parodied on heaps of things. i now feel i need to see the whole movie

  • One of my all time favorite movies!! Lloyd Dobler is so the man!!

  • this is a great movie. john cusack is so cool in this.

  • Hey girls, is this a good date movie?

  • uum yea this movie ROCKS!!

  • Hahaha I had a friend who tried this and it ended up pissing her off. She said "why couldn't you do things like this for me *before* we broke up?"

  • wtf?

  • omg.

    soo sweet. :DD

  • this movie really touched my heart in a unforgetable way

  • Stalking is a crime Lloyd.

  • This is a great date movie, one of the best

  • um...YEAH. have you not seen this all the way through?! I love Cusack.

  • soooooo sweet! i love him!!

  • i actually did this to win a girl back in the 80s, but i played "baby got back" and it didnt work :(

  • hhaha ur such a dork!

  • LOL! :D

  • jeff bahh is somewhat right. Everybody is dumb. We're human. We go for the Alpha male/female...the hottie, not the nice one, for the most part. Me, I want the nice one, but she's already taken, dammit!

  • jeffbahh amen amen

  • I am about to do this.

  • sweet

  • i wish a guy would do something like this for me.

i definitely wouldn't be sitting on my bed. lol

    whataho.

  • where do you live ? :)

  • Shows me how pathetic you are your the type of guy who treats women like objects I bet, lemme tell you something, you the one who is gonna end up alone and crying when you have no one left to hold so why don't you go off yourself now and be done with it.

  • I think it's funny how a lot of these comments are saying that more guys need to be like Lloyd. In my opinion, I think girls should stop being dumb and going out with the assholes. They usually already have the perfect guy in front of them and they get with some piece of shit asshole who fucks them over in the end and then the bitch is like, "Why do I always get fucked over / Why does this always happen to me?" Girls are dumb. Girls need to open their eyes more.

  • funny thing is...that has happened to me

  • you are so roght

  • I cried watching this movie...shows you how far a guy will go to show you he loves you

i used to wonder if there really were any guys like lloyd out there...i'm thinking i found him

  • I wish I had a girlfriend :(

  • some david deangelo will help you out

  • If the chick thought it was creepy, she ain't for you. Plus she's probably seen the movie and has a thing about originality. Sometimes girls don't appreciate how well versed some guys are, and that sometimes it isn't a con job. Let's get real - some guys want to be that knight in shining armour. That some guys exploit that to get what they want is inevitable. But I don't want to be punished for it.

  • This is by far one of the sweetest things I have ever seen. I love how much Lloyd cares for Diane. It's so adorable! more guys need to be like Lloyd. lol.

  • i tried and the girl thought i was creepy and she didnt get the refrence...

  • it loses a lot of its significance if a) the song itself doesnt have any relevance in the history of your relationship and b) you are merely copying a movie rather than finding a way to express yourself from YOURSELF.

  • Well said. Precision is the key. Lloyd knew exactly what he was doing, and he knew how to call things off when the time came. But this is classic. It's the modern Romeo outside Juliet's window. In fact, there's lots of Shakespeare in this film.

  • one of these days, man. I'm gonna do that.

  • can someone post up the complete video? it was up here a few months ago, but now comes up as no longer being available :/

    would really* appreciate it!

  • Yeah, thats a good point. Really, any sort of romantic thing you do is probably going to get you laid.

It doesnt even have to be good, youll probably get fucked for effort. It really is the thought that counts. Well, I mean there has to be some effort, but still.

  • I wish I had a girl I liked this much.

  • With your same old safe bet?

  • That's real classy.

  • That's classy.

  • WOW I know how to impress the girl I like now! PG I LOVE YOU!

  • That's classy.

  • did you get to sniff her puckered poop pipe??

  • This is like one of my favorite movies! It makes my little heart flutter like a butterfly!

  • OY, I still have a made crush on John Cusack, I always have and always will.

  • CLASSIC! 5/5

  • My boss (whom I've known since grade school) claims that I did something like this for a girl in 1985 or '86 ...

That would be a few years before Mr. Cusack!

The song was Sarah by Starship, and in fact, I just happened to have talked to that gal last night ...

  • The 80's end of good movies and good music

  • that's soooooo romantic *sigh*

  • Classic 80's. Sheer goosebumps. Must close that window!

  • it is called a boom box not a beat box and you can still find these things pretty cheap at walmart and other discount department stores

  • that is great, id give you candy just for that.

  • best scene ever!

  • I love the rap..Lloyd..Lloyd all null & void...lol

  • In 1989, I fell in love for the 1st time to this movie/soundtrack. Even at the age of 36 now, this song still has sacred overtones. That girl wanted to get married SO BAD at the age of 17, but rocking the mullet and Z-28, it wasn't happening for me then. She is a PA-C now, maybe I should have done it! ;)

  • One of the best movies ever. I never really feel emotion, but, this brings it out of me everytime.

  • Yeah but nowdays it's pretty hard to scrounge up a beatbox - youd have to hold up,like, an ipod with the volume up. Not really the same.

  • Great point! One of the ways technology has made life kind of impersonal. I guess you could sent it to her myspace page in the form of an embed video this song imposed over a video you shot with your webcam and posted on youtube that has been viewed and critiqued over 760,000 times.

Just isn't the same is it?

  • you could put your ipod into a siren speaker. i guess that's closest to a boombox. :)

  • I wish John Cusack would do that for me :)

  • i'll do it for u if you want lol

  • i mean i'm no john cusack but hey.

  • ahhahahahah n1

  • I've never actually seen this movie....it's very weird, I know John Cusack from Midnight in the Garden and as far as Say Anything I snicker every time cause he's not even actually playing that song on the Boombox....I just have to wonder how hard it was to hold that thing up while they filmed it, those things aren't exactly light...

  • INCREDIBLE!....one of my fav's of all time.

  • Classic movie, classic scene. John Cusack rules!

  • stalking? how could anyone call this stalking... pure love man.

    nothing stalking about this!!!!!

    so beautiful and pure.

  • Wonderful scene from a wonderful movie. Cusak is such a great actor. The look on his face says volumes. You understand everything he's feeling, the love, the pain, how he's desperately holding on to the last shreds of hope, and all without saying a single word.

  • Everyone's gonna hate me for saying this, but I don't like this movie.

However, this scene - and Lloyd's character in general - is one of the most romantic things I've ever seen. It's so simplisticly sweet.

Don't even get me started on the song.

  • I was debating with my friends about whether or not this guy's actions could be considered stalking. Some said yes, others said no. We eventually came to the conclusion that the difference between stalking and romaticism is whether or not the attention is desired. The Notebook too, considered one of the most romantic movies of all time. But some would consider Noah's actions in the beginning extremely stalkerish. Others call it romantic. What's the difference?

  • not stalking at all.

    dedication to confessing his love.

  • I say if he were there all night blasting his boombox, playing songs like "Love Stinks" and "Eat My Shorts", that would be stalking. But one song, Peter Gabriel? That's the outcry of a wounded heart. He's just communicating.

  • I think stalking is usually when it's someone you don't know very well or at all, or when you've made it obvious that you want nothing to do with them. I also see stalking as more of a secretive thing; when it's outright like that, I would just consider it flirting. Or just being obnoxious.

  • If it'd Peter Gabriel it's romantic, if it's Limp Bizket, it's stalking.

    No offense to LB

  • omg i love this scene! this is my favorite movie!!!

  • Oh, this movie! This scene! In college, I thought my "Lloyd Dobbler" and i would last forever. Oh well! Still an amazing scene...

  • Well don't leave us all hanging -what happened to your Lloyd that Peter Gabriel couldn't cure?

  • The scene is awesome .. but the movie is overrated!

  • john cusack so young lol

  • classic!!! will never ever be forgotten... a hundred years from now people will still be remembring this scene. :)

    awesomeness.

  • One of my Top 5 Favorite Love Scenes of all time.

  • love this movie, i'm only 17 but it's one of my favorites. This song is so great!

  • me too dude

  • Adoro este filme, esta cena é muito linda, por muito tempo não sabia o nome desta música, que é uma de minhas preferidas.

  • i love this film ..

it makes me cry everytime ..

id love someone to do that for me :P

peter gabriel has an amazin voice ..

    x3

  • lol 14 yo

  • i love how he wears that same clash t-shirt in like the whole movie hahah

  • classic...i saw this when it came out. showed it to younger girls and all of them dig it. works all d time 4 me. thanks lloyd.

  • I'm doing this. No joke. If explaining my feelings for this girl doesn't work, I'll resort to the guitar, and if THAT doesn't work, she's getting a surprise via boombox. I only looked up this video to take notes.

  • oh my gosh, do it. any girl would love that. i would, and she will.

  • I love this scene! It's so romantic!!! I always wanted someone to play this song outside my window!!!
