Jackson never fought again.... Smart move for Norris lol. Brown crushed Norris in 4 rounds to take the title. Then in the rematch Terry got on his bicycle and back peddled away. Running from old man Brown poking only with his jab ( barely any Combinations) to get the decision. Norris was Terrible....in the bad way.

Would have loved to see what Jackson would have been able to do to Marvin Hagler. Jackson had freakish power, but I doubt he would be able to stop Hagler, maybe hurt him, but definitely not knock him out!
Jackson has to be considered among the hardest punchers of all time in any weight class. His power with either hand was frightening, he could fold you in half with a body shot just as sure as he could knock you out cold with a shot to the chin.
@LVSWTZ McCallum also KO'd my favorite welterweight of that era, Donald The Cobra Curry. People don't remember McCallum too much, but he was a BAD MAN.
@LVSWTZ I just looked at the McCallum/Jackson fight. I forgot how good Mac was. He had a lot of good movement from the waist up to dodge big punches and was an accurate puncher and kept his hands high. He did in-fighting without getting hit too much. Was he champion in Junior Middleweights?
@icarus16828 say man, didn't Pacquiao just fight for an 154 lb. championship belt when he beat the shit outta Margarito? It's not far outside the realm of possibility. And if you check, Margarito is actually taller than Jackson but they both have the same reach. Ali on the other hand is 6'3" with an 80" reach.
Jesus man this is why I fuckin' hate postin' on here I just had an idea for a dream fight and you go and be an asshole about it.

Hagler vs Jackson. Edge goes to Hagler, However Hagler could not stand toe to toe with Julian for the entire fight he would have to damage Julian early and finish him! If Hagler trades with Julian like he did with Mugabi, then Hagler falls to a Julian Jackson shot! I don't care how great you are you can't take Jackson shot flush and walk away. Hearns vs Jackson, Edge to Hearns only if he catches Julian early and doesn't get hit! Leonard vs Jackson, Leonard, too much movement, too skilled
@vincespell Hagler and Hearns easily take care of Jackson, Leonard had too much movement and too skilled but Hearns didn't ? lol, Hearns would outbox Jackson all night long and would probably finish him whenever he pleased, Jackson only has a punchers chance against Hearns not the other way around.
Hagler could probably put Jackson away as well, Hagler was much more durable plus he could outbox Jackson as we wanted. You're horrendously over rating him.
@MultiGreat1 Putting someone to sleep with one punch is hardly something I call overrated. Of the 55 victories he recorded, 49 of them fell by TKO, many by straight KO. And his opponent list, alone, refutes any assumption of his power as overrated. This cat could crack ... plain and simple.
@daTruChosen Well stated. Jackson's power was breathtaking. Literally. Even the few times he lost, he had Mike McCallum and Gerald McClellan hurt before falling himself. Not too fighters could have knocked out a prime Terry Norris and Heral Graham the way Julian Jackson did.
@leahpd19 If he only had a chin ... the fatal flaw of so many power punchers; e.g. Tommy Hearns, Kermit Cintron, Diego Corrales and Miguel Cotto (who I didn't realize had a weak chin until Pacquiao got a hold of that ass).
@daTruChosen Cintron doesn't have a weak chin. He got stopped from an accumulation of punches by Margarito's loaded handwraps. Cotto does seemed to get buzzed easily but recovers very fast, similar to Juan Manuel Marquez who has been down about 1000 times but gets back up and wins. Cotto's only losses are from punch accumulation not a weak chin. And getting knocked down against Pacquiau is no crime. Shane Mosley went down and said he'd never been hit so hard and he is known for a solid chin.
Terry, you were a skilled fighter and I definitely give you credit. But you can not, can not, can NOT stand there and let Julian Jackson take aim. Lots of heavyweights would've gone down from that punch. Brutal power!
@breaknfoool Whose Gerald McCuller? It's McCellan, and McCellan was a 6"1 and a half middleweight who was extremely heavy handed. Julian Jacksson was a great light middleweight.
@frEEturk OK yor right. It was Gerald Mccellan. But how much difference is there from junior middleweight to middleweight? 6lbs? Julian Jackson one diminsional ass got his ass handed 2 him twice by this guy. Julian has above average power but below average skills and will. and U kno this man!
@breaknfoool I see obviously you have no clue about boxing, I see you prolly never strapped on a pair of gloves or even sparred in the ring let alone against someone bigger. Above average power for Julian Jackson, don't try to kick knowledge about boxing to me.
@frEEturk Yes, I did box. 4 two years as a kid & 4 two years as an adult. I fought N the Golden Gloves but did not win. I was always talented but didnt hav a lot of heart. Boxing was my dream. & i did spar with bigger guys & beat them. I had my ass handed 2 me from south paws though. & Its hard 2b a great light middlew8 bcaws that is not a gr8 division& hasnt been since S. R. Robinson
Above average power?,if you think Julian Jackson who was pound for pound one of the hardest punchers ever had above average power then you know nothing about boxing..
@frEEturk U think Julian Jackson culd knock out Marvin Hagler? Hell No. He's 2 slow & one dimentional 2 beat Leonard. & Hit Man wuld put his ass 2 sleep. Like I sed. A spoon fed fighter with heavy hands.
@breaknfoool When did I say Jackson wud beat Hagler, puzzing cause I never did. Marvelous was one of my favorite fighters, he would mop the floor with Jackson.
@frEEturk No! U sed that Julian Jackson was a great super welterw8& i am saying that he was not bcwas he wuldnt've beat any of the great fighters that i mention. Hearns, Hagler, or Leonard. Gerald Mccellan was stronger than Julian Jackson but great fighters can overcome good fighters if they got talent & heart. Evry 1 knows that J. Jackson can punch. & thats all. He was spoon fed like i sed b4.
@breaknfoool "FooL" Julian Jackson will go down in history as one of the greatest knockout artist of all time. His punches were pulverizing! and at one point he sported a 40-1 with 39 ko's at that point only Mike McCallum had beaten him! Jackson could knockout anyone, if any of the legends had got caught wih the same punch Norris, Drayton and Graham got caught with they would have fallen too! Hearns would not walk away from a Jackson shot however Jackson would not walk away from a Hearns shot!
I will continue a lot of times a boxer can build a rep as a puncher it's quite easy your handlers simply make very uneven matches it's rife throughout boxing always has been. But there are fighters who are born with power real ko power it just needs a little tweak here & there & you have a beast on your hands. Mugabi ,hearns, bob foster, young Tyson,& Archie Moore knocked out more fighters than the combined alphabet champs have had fights.dick tiger etc I could go on it's natural with a tweak.
Mr Perez , like yourself I too fought for some time . Maybe not at world class level but I held my own. I loved the gym for me it was the best classroom I ever entered .My point is to have knockout power most of it is a god given talent. The rest gets refined with the trainers , balance speed movement & how to throw a punch properly that's what's really needed .
@chamomile21000 Well put. This is the point I was making to the young man who insisted that "punchers are made & not born". Rubbish. If that were truly the case, skilled fighters like Kid Gavilan, Howard Davis and most recently, Juan Diaz would all be KO Artists. Nice insight, chamomile. Cheers.
@Rasclot222 i agree but jackson always had that punchers chance and if he could survive about 5 rds he would have a great chance of catching hearns late to force a stoppage..
@28rampage That is true very true given that hearns lack stamina, I still would give a slight edge on hearns he bigger, longer reach has a good jab and julian is too predicable, we know that he is just going to keep coming foward with little head movement. At the same time we have to consider which hearns we're talking about as well. Hearns at this point was pretty much out of his prime when Julian and McCallem were coming up, Prime I say Hearns.
Gee Whizz! J.Jackson has one BITCH of a right hand punch, one of the sweetest in Boxing History. Norris was OUT like a light straight away, way b4 he hit the canvas. It's rare to find Boxers though who possess raw almighty KO power & have a Great chin too. Prime Sonny Liston & George Foreman are the few that did, also Holyfield at cruiserweight.
@jperez9805 ummmm ok buddy. but the fact remains that he exhibited great timing on this shot and he really got his legs and core into this punch. A lot of people can punch but have horrific timing so how can the hit someone with that power?
@millionstylesboksing I'm talking about natural, raw punching power. What you mentioned has truth to it. My point is that guys like Julian Jackson, Wilfredo Gomez, Ernie Shavers, Carlos Zarate, etc all had one thing in common: natural pop.
Some of these bangers could have delivered a blow standing on one foot and still would have created a drop.
@jperez9805 thats the truth dude sum fuckers can just plain punch! that and norris jus got caught with his left down shit happend but he was still great.
@jperez9805 No such thing as natural punching power. Boxers work long and hard to develop technique to improve their power. On the other hand, speed like Floyd Mayweather has is more natural.
@clintaxe Amen, clintaxe. That was a perfect example. The last thing that an old puncher loses is his punching power. Khennyo, research a little more buddy, don't just assume what you think you know. As a fighter ages, he loses speed, reflexes, even the ability to take a punch, but the power remains. Archie Moore was touring Africa when he was almost 70. He KO'd a big, young African laborer for breaking Moore's camera after he snapped a pic of the guy digging a ditch. Cheers.
@clintaxe Believe what you want. power is based on leverage, speed & technique. It's not natural. You're not born with it. Power can be improve, God blessed boxers with speed
@khennyo Power, speed and Technique? All of which guys like Forman, Shavers and Mugabi NEVER had and still had the highest KO ratios among fighters. Check yourself, kid. Natural power is like natural speed. You got it or you don't, otherwise we'd have a country full of Gold medal sprinters.
@jperez9805 Jack Dempsey, one of the greatest punchers ever (ranked 7th all-time by Ring Magazine said punchers are made, not born. Sorry, but i'll take his word over yours.
You say these boxers didn't have technique? Yes they did. They knew how to positon themselves & use leverage to deliver knockouts.
@khennyo You just answered my very point by mentioning Dempsey as one of the "greatest punchers". Dempsey was not known for his speed or technique but his natural/raw punching power/style. Boxing experts & fighters throughout history referred to fighters of this nature as having natural punching power. Being a retired pro fighter, I know the importance of speed, technique, etc. But natural punchers are a different subject: Foreman, Mugabi, Hamed, Gomez, Dempsey.
Ouch! I think Terry was out on his feet after the first punch and the other two were just icing on the cake. Awesome kayo!
As far as the previous posts about Leonard go, yes Sugar Ray was past his prime in his two losses against Norris and Camacho, but he only has himself to blame as he should have not fought either of those men. Father Time has a habit of putting people in their place and we have seen way too many fighters over stay their welcome.
so? that makes him only 34 yrs. he was much more experienced than Norris and shouldve won
Frankly, neither I nor many legions of boxing fans were pleased with his selection of comeback opponents and consider it a senior's tour mixed in with tomato cans. We got lalonde instead of Jackson. Duran instead of Nunn and punch drunk Hearns instead of McCallum.
He shouldve gotten in there with some new blood for once instead of fighting these sorry repeats.
Probably the biggest punching middleweight in history, although the ring magazines 100 greatest punchers poll has him behind Bob Fitzsimmons(8) Ray Robinson(11), and Rocky Graziano (23) Jackson at no 25. I guess Robinson was a Welter at his peak so he dont count, i would probably put him infront of Graziano, Fitzsimmons was a terrorfying puncher however, his ranking as one of the biggset punchers in history is well placed.
J.J. against Sugar Ray?...Now THAT would be a fight...I'd pay to see that..I'd pick Sugar Ray in that fight because he had consumate boxing skill and hit hard enough to take you straight out. He didn't just "slap" people...that's Bullshit. He knocked people the fuck out...the best combination of punching power and boxing skill as a welter/middle weight since the original Sugar Ray. But J.J. had LETHAL one punch knockout power. It would be interesting to see if he could catch Ray Leonard
that's funny. Jackson was champion at the time 1988, 89. I wonder why Ray didnt fight him or Micheal Nunn for that matter
I dont believe this fight would ever come off no matter what. Ray would rather skip a couple of divisions for lalonde and pudgy 38 year old Duran than risk his neck against live wires like Nunn or Jackson at a more comfortable weight
Truthfully I dont think Ray would have done well. In fact, he would have lost. Look at the problems he head with Norris
Are we talking about Leonard in his prime or in 1988?..If we're talking 1988 I'll conceed your point...if we're talking Leonard in his prime and J.J. in his prime I'm betting Leonard...Even though I'm a huge J.J. fan
Dude I'm the biggest Julian Jackson fan you will talk to...but Leonard beat Hagler (or got the decision anyway)...he could've handled J.J. too much skill dude...and Terry Norris is not a good example...Ray was way over the hill when he fought Terry...and Norris still couldn't knock him out...Leonard was NEVER knocked out, which says something in itself. Leonard would've controlled J.J. the same way Herol Graham was..except he wouldn't leave himself open for a big hit the way Graham did
I know. RL is great at taking on shot fighters so I'm still not impressed
Leonard was ALWAYS getting hit once he stepped up in class. I mean, look how much Kalule hit him. Look how much Howard hit him. Look how much Norris hit him
Norris couldnt do it so forget about Ray ever doing it. add to the fact Ray's chin wasnt the best. He was ko'd by a washed up Camacho who is naturally smaller
Ray Leonard in his prime is an alltime great...a hall of famer...he don't need to prove anything..I will say this though Julian Jackson had a puncher's chance against ANYBODY...including the ORIGINAL Sugar Ray..I think arguably the most desvestating puncher in middle weight history..which includes Ray Robinson, Hagler, Rocky Graziano, Tony Zale, Mickey Walker and Stanley Ketchel..maybe Bob Fitsimmons who knocked out heavyweight Jim Corbet with a body punch! might have hit harder ...maybe
Mate, Leonard did get knocked out once from Hector Camacho in his fight after the Norris defeat.... I agree with you though, a younger Leonard would've thoroughly outboxed Jackson and i'm a massive J J fan. He would've beaten Norris too.
Ok the fight was stopped...technically a TKO...not quite the same as getting counted out but he was stopped so technically you're right...that was waaaay beyond his prime and he shouldn't have been in there...if he'd fought J.J. at that same moment in his "career" he could've been seriously injured...but I think we agree that in his prime Ray was an all time great
Leonard did get knocked out by Camacho, but that was a shell of Ray Leonard also, how embarrassing for a great fighter to get his ass handed to him by such a clown
This is the only time Terry Norris ever fought an elite fighter with a working pulse and look what happened.
Terrence learned from his mistakes and realised that his chances against an elite fighter in their prime was rather limited, which is why he then went on to make a career out of beating up on the old,shot,worn-out fighters of yesteryear
Julian Jackson was living in the shadow of Mike Tyson & Julio Ceasar Chavez all thanks to Don King. He never got a main event and he had what it took to be a superstar a KNOCKOUT punch with either hand .I remember him calling out James Toney,Mcallum,Norris,etc.... & a whole bunch of other fighters but it just never happened .Its a shame because his prime was wasted .We got to see some good knockoutsbut he never got the big mega fight he deserved.
You know you made a good point It may have been, but he never got that main event on a big show like something on pay per view or 1 of these top cable channels especially in his prime when we should of got a chance to see him showcase his peak performances at top level on big shows. I followed his career for a long time & he was always one of my favorite boxers.
Fantastic point! Julian Jackson, for me, is the most devestating puncher in boxing history and should have received a lot more than he did as a fighter. He was vulnerable to a good shot too and thats why I loved to watch him, although his chin never got tested that often. When he hit it was.....GOODNIGHT!!! His opponents stayed hit too!!! In my opinion he's an unrecognised legend!
strongties is mixing Julian Jackson up with SImon Brown, who KO'd Norris but was outboxed in the rematch.

Terry, you were a skilled fighter and I definitely give you credit. But you can not, can not, can NOT stand there and let Julian Jackson take aim. Lots of heavyweights would've gone down from that punch. Brutal power!

hard to find information on how he trained. A combo of mccallum skills and jackson power and there you have an all time legend

julian jackson had power but he culdnt beat other great fighters , Gerald Mccluller destroyed him twice and he was KO'd by the other jackson.
breaknfoool 1 year ago
@breaknfoool Whose Gerald McCuller? It's McCellan, and McCellan was a 6"1 and a half middleweight who was extremely heavy handed. Julian Jacksson was a great light middleweight.
frEEturk 1 year ago
@frEEturk OK yor right. It was Gerald Mccellan. But how much difference is there from junior middleweight to middleweight? 6lbs? Julian Jackson one diminsional ass got his ass handed 2 him twice by this guy. Julian has above average power but below average skills and will. and U kno this man!
breaknfoool 1 year ago
@breaknfoool I see obviously you have no clue about boxing, I see you prolly never strapped on a pair of gloves or even sparred in the ring let alone against someone bigger. Above average power for Julian Jackson, don't try to kick knowledge about boxing to me.
frEEturk 1 year ago
@frEEturk Yes, I did box. 4 two years as a kid & 4 two years as an adult. I fought N the Golden Gloves but did not win. I was always talented but didnt hav a lot of heart. Boxing was my dream. & i did spar with bigger guys & beat them. I had my ass handed 2 me from south paws though. & Its hard 2b a great light middlew8 bcaws that is not a gr8 division& hasnt been since S. R. Robinson
breaknfoool 1 year ago
Above average power?,if you think Julian Jackson who was pound for pound one of the hardest punchers ever had above average power then you know nothing about boxing..
dhlfh 1 year ago
@frEEturk U think Julian Jackson culd knock out Marvin Hagler? Hell No. He's 2 slow & one dimentional 2 beat Leonard. & Hit Man wuld put his ass 2 sleep. Like I sed. A spoon fed fighter with heavy hands.
breaknfoool 1 year ago
@breaknfoool When did I say Jackson wud beat Hagler, puzzing cause I never did. Marvelous was one of my favorite fighters, he would mop the floor with Jackson.
frEEturk 1 year ago
@frEEturk No! U sed that Julian Jackson was a great super welterw8& i am saying that he was not bcwas he wuldnt've beat any of the great fighters that i mention. Hearns, Hagler, or Leonard. Gerald Mccellan was stronger than Julian Jackson but great fighters can overcome good fighters if they got talent & heart. Evry 1 knows that J. Jackson can punch. & thats all. He was spoon fed like i sed b4.
breaknfoool 1 year ago
@breaknfoool "FooL" Julian Jackson will go down in history as one of the greatest knockout artist of all time. His punches were pulverizing! and at one point he sported a 40-1 with 39 ko's at that point only Mike McCallum had beaten him! Jackson could knockout anyone, if any of the legends had got caught wih the same punch Norris, Drayton and Graham got caught with they would have fallen too! Hearns would not walk away from a Jackson shot however Jackson would not walk away from a Hearns shot!
vincespell 1 year ago
I will continue a lot of times a boxer can build a rep as a puncher it's quite easy your handlers simply make very uneven matches it's rife throughout boxing always has been. But there are fighters who are born with power real ko power it just needs a little tweak here & there & you have a beast on your hands. Mugabi ,hearns, bob foster, young Tyson,& Archie Moore knocked out more fighters than the combined alphabet champs have had fights.dick tiger etc I could go on it's natural with a tweak.
chamomile21000 1 year ago
@chamomile21000 - I agree. Jackson had God given power. He was one of the most exciting middleweights ever. Also a great guy.
zlipperyEEL 1 year ago
Mr Perez , like yourself I too fought for some time . Maybe not at world class level but I held my own. I loved the gym for me it was the best classroom I ever entered .My point is to have knockout power most of it is a god given talent. The rest gets refined with the trainers , balance speed movement & how to throw a punch properly that's what's really needed .
chamomile21000 1 year ago
@chamomile21000 Well put. This is the point I was making to the young man who insisted that "punchers are made & not born". Rubbish. If that were truly the case, skilled fighters like Kid Gavilan, Howard Davis and most recently, Juan Diaz would all be KO Artists. Nice insight, chamomile. Cheers.

JJ is the hardest 154 lb puncher in the history of boxing
Rasclot222 1 year ago
@Rasclot222 possibly but i think hearns could give him a run for his money in the power department especially at 154....
28rampage 1 year ago
@28rampage OH hell yeah no doubt. Julian was just a beast but a little too small for 160. Hearns would have ko'd Jackson.
Rasclot222 1 year ago
@Rasclot222 i agree but jackson always had that punchers chance and if he could survive about 5 rds he would have a great chance of catching hearns late to force a stoppage..
28rampage 1 year ago

P4P maybe the most devastating puncher in our galaxy. Unfortunately the chin did not match. If it did, he would still be the champ.

@millionstylesboksing I think natural punching power had something to do with it, buddy.
jperez9805 1 year ago
@jperez9805 ummmm ok buddy. but the fact remains that he exhibited great timing on this shot and he really got his legs and core into this punch. A lot of people can punch but have horrific timing so how can the hit someone with that power?
millionstylesboksing 1 year ago
@millionstylesboksing I'm talking about natural, raw punching power. What you mentioned has truth to it. My point is that guys like Julian Jackson, Wilfredo Gomez, Ernie Shavers, Carlos Zarate, etc all had one thing in common: natural pop.
Some of these bangers could have delivered a blow standing on one foot and still would have created a drop.
jperez9805 1 year ago
@jperez9805 thats the truth dude sum fuckers can just plain punch! that and norris jus got caught with his left down shit happend but he was still great.
mike2hype 1 year ago
@jperez9805 No such thing as natural punching power. Boxers work long and hard to develop technique to improve their power. On the other hand, speed like Floyd Mayweather has is more natural.
khennyo 1 year ago
@khennyo
The fuck are you talking about?
Power is NATURAL, which is precisely why it's one of the last things to go when a boxer gets old (Like Foreman in his 40's).
clintaxe 1 year ago
@clintaxe Amen, clintaxe. That was a perfect example. The last thing that an old puncher loses is his punching power. Khennyo, research a little more buddy, don't just assume what you think you know. As a fighter ages, he loses speed, reflexes, even the ability to take a punch, but the power remains. Archie Moore was touring Africa when he was almost 70. He KO'd a big, young African laborer for breaking Moore's camera after he snapped a pic of the guy digging a ditch. Cheers.
jperez9805 1 year ago
@clintaxe Believe what you want. power is based on leverage, speed & technique. It's not natural. You're not born with it. Power can be improve, God blessed boxers with speed
khennyo 1 year ago
@khennyo Power, speed and Technique? All of which guys like Forman, Shavers and Mugabi NEVER had and still had the highest KO ratios among fighters. Check yourself, kid. Natural power is like natural speed. You got it or you don't, otherwise we'd have a country full of Gold medal sprinters.
jperez9805 1 year ago
@jperez9805 Jack Dempsey, one of the greatest punchers ever (ranked 7th all-time by Ring Magazine said punchers are made, not born. Sorry, but i'll take his word over yours.
You say these boxers didn't have technique? Yes they did. They knew how to positon themselves & use leverage to deliver knockouts.
khennyo 1 year ago
@khennyo You just answered my very point by mentioning Dempsey as one of the "greatest punchers". Dempsey was not known for his speed or technique but his natural/raw punching power/style. Boxing experts & fighters throughout history referred to fighters of this nature as having natural punching power. Being a retired pro fighter, I know the importance of speed, technique, etc. But natural punchers are a different subject: Foreman, Mugabi, Hamed, Gomez, Dempsey.
jperez9805 1 year ago

Piglatinsuperstar 2 years ago
Yeah, for what. So we could watch uno mas with flabby ass overweight Duran instead of sleek, fast, dangerous Micheal Nunn?
Watching punch drunk hearns in a "timely "rematch was MUCH better than watching Ray matched with a peaking McCallum
u dont need to be heavyweight. look at Monzon look at Hopkins. both lasted long becuz they werent abused. neither was ray Leonard
It was the SPEED that beat him!!
and the best in leonard's prime was hagler in his prime (1982 not 1987)
Piglatinsuperstar 2 years ago
so? that makes him only 34 yrs. he was much more experienced than Norris and shouldve won
Dont mistake the truth for disrespect
Piglatinsuperstar 2 years ago
Probably the biggest punching middleweight in history, although the ring magazines 100 greatest punchers poll has him behind Bob Fitzsimmons(8) Ray Robinson(11), and Rocky Graziano (23) Jackson at no 25. I guess Robinson was a Welter at his peak so he dont count, i would probably put him infront of Graziano, Fitzsimmons was a terrorfying puncher however, his ranking as one of the biggset punchers in history is well placed.

Why compare him to Leonard? Sugar just ran around and slapped at people. This guy would have kicked Sugar Rays ass, if he ever could chase him down.
makestoms 2 years ago
J.J. against Sugar Ray?...Now THAT would be a fight...I'd pay to see that..I'd pick Sugar Ray in that fight because he had consumate boxing skill and hit hard enough to take you straight out. He didn't just "slap" people...that's Bullshit. He knocked people the fuck out...the best combination of punching power and boxing skill as a welter/middle weight since the original Sugar Ray. But J.J. had LETHAL one punch knockout power. It would be interesting to see if he could catch Ray Leonard
sonwamac 2 years ago
that's funny.
Piglatinsuperstar 2 years ago
Are we talking about Leonard in his prime or in 1988?..If we're talking 1988 I'll conceed your point...if we're talking Leonard in his prime and J.J. in his prime I'm betting Leonard...Even though I'm a huge J.J. fan
sonwamac 2 years ago
Ray was never strong enough for JJ at 154
look at the problems he was caused by Howard in 84 and Kevin was very small compared to Leonard
If Norris couldnt beat him then Leonard has even less chance
Piglatinsuperstar 2 years ago
Dude I'm the biggest Julian Jackson fan you will talk to...but Leonard beat Hagler (or got the decision anyway)...he could've handled J.J. too much skill dude...and Terry Norris is not a good example...Ray was way over the hill when he fought Terry...and Norris still couldn't knock him out...Leonard was NEVER knocked out, which says something in itself. Leonard would've controlled J.J. the same way Herol Graham was..except he wouldn't leave himself open for a big hit the way Graham did
sonwamac 2 years ago
He was ko'd by a washed up Camacho who is naturally smaller
and Ray doesnt do well against bigger men
JJ takes it in two
Piglatinsuperstar 2 years ago
Ray Leonard in his prime is an alltime great...a hall of famer...he don't need to prove anything..I will say this though Julian Jackson had a puncher's chance against ANYBODY...including the ORIGINAL Sugar Ray..I think arguably the most desvestating puncher in middle weight history..which includes Ray Robinson, Hagler, Rocky Graziano, Tony Zale, Mickey Walker and Stanley Ketchel..maybe Bob Fitsimmons who knocked out heavyweight Jim Corbet with a body punch! might have hit harder ...maybe
sonwamac 2 years ago
Mate, Leonard did get knocked out once from Hector Camacho in his fight after the Norris defeat.... I agree with you though, a younger Leonard would've thoroughly outboxed Jackson and i'm a massive J J fan. He would've beaten Norris too.
yabadabadoobabybaba 2 years ago
Ok the fight was stopped...technically a TKO...not quite the same as getting counted out but he was stopped so technically you're right...that was waaaay beyond his prime and he shouldn't have been in there...if he'd fought J.J. at that same moment in his "career" he could've been seriously injured...but I think we agree that in his prime Ray was an all time great
sonwamac 2 years ago

& a whole bunch of other fighters but it just never happened .Its a shame because his prime was wasted .We got to see some good knockoutsbut he never got the big mega fight he deserved.
steelcage13 2 years ago
This wasnt a main event ? daim !
BringerOfTheTruth 2 years ago
You know you made a good point It may have been, but he never got that main event on a big show like something on pay per view or 1 of these top cable channels especially in his prime when we should of got a chance to see him showcase his peak performances at top level on big shows. I followed his career for a long time & he was always one of my favorite boxers.
steelcage13 2 years ago
Fantastic point! Julian Jackson, for me, is the most devestating puncher in boxing history and should have received a lot more than he did as a fighter. He was vulnerable to a good shot too and thats why I loved to watch him, although his chin never got tested that often. When he hit it was.....GOODNIGHT!!! His opponents stayed hit too!!! In my opinion he's an unrecognised legend!
