I own a gamo silent stalker whisper. I found that the barrel shakes from side to side. It wobbles on its pivot. Because of it, the shots are all over the target. It stems from the design flaw in my opinion. So if you want to shoot with open sights, it is an OK gun, but if you want to use a scope, it will be terrible. The shoots will be all over the place.

I too own a large number of firearms and bought this rifle for hobby reasons. Indoor shooting range,plinking, and maybe some hedge hogs, coons, muskrats, or the occasional pecker head. Anyway, nice rifle without the scope. I bought 2 more break barrels since: a Benjamin 1500 and a Ruger Air Hawk. The Benjamin is twice the quality of the Gamo and no scope problems. And if you know the Whisper scope setup you know what I am talking about. I do have to say the 1st 50 shots were fantastic.
Also, note that part where I said I can fire it in my backyard on my days off, something I can do with my .22 but is annoying and unsafe to my neighbors.

I have 2 question regarding the Gamo whisper. I'm new to airguns...I have an arsenal of firearms but just got into the Airgun thing to shoot around my 4 acres inside city limits. #1...why the hell does the ammo load so tight I mean when using lead I actually bend the airtrap in the back of the pellet half the time. #2 will using cheap crosman lead ammo damage the rifle? Crosman ammo in particular barely fits and only when you jam it in.
There are "air rifles" that can kill fucking elephants. Some sniper rifles are air powered because they are more silent than a combustion bullet, even with silencers. Dont be an idiot. If you compare a high powered pellet gun to Airsoft, then you will look like an idiot.
@TheOutdoorsman07 yeah it does depend on the pellet to (i have some penetrating shots that work a lot better than flat head) and the person (weak bones or not) but an average person your probaly right

@snowboarddude117 There's still a lot of extra gas that shoots out of the barrel. Eliminating that "pop" makes the gun significantly quieter. Especially since there's no super sonic crack to contend with.

ANYWAY.....stay away from the idiots that hawk 1200 fps air rifles that shoot diabolo pellets. You can go supersonic with pellets that are like regular bullets.....but no weak springer air rifle can get those heavy pellets up to speed. My BSA Lonestar can send lightweight FTT pellets supersonic.....but is inaccurate. Heavy Baracuda pellet for hunting.
Anybody with ANY break barrel air rifle has a standing offer from me to go out to a 320 acre prairie dog town and shoot all day against me and my BSA .25 Lonestar. After calling Gamo and hearing for myself how these people dont know anything about there product, it was clear the right choice for me was Crosman. I went with the NPSS Short Stroke/ digi camo : ). Hhaha, Gamo didnt even know what there own igt (integrated gas technology) was. What a joke. Gamo, good performance, bad quality.

I would recommend the crosman G1 extreme. Is only $100 compared to the whisperer which is $250 and is the EXACT SAME velocity as the whisper (1200 FPS). The G1 has a 4x32 mm scope.
Lol I have a Gamo Big Cat 1200. It's really good for the price, and I would recommend it. Also, the ammo that he's using is Raptor Gamo pellets, made out of real gold. Pretty sick huh?
DON'T BUY THIS GUN!!! gamo guns are thought to be good because they are over advertised. Buy an RWS Diana which will last you three times as long. If they can pay for advertising they are obviously making money off customers. THINK ABOUT IT. HOW COULD THEY PAY TO ADVERTISE IF THEY WERE SELLING GUNS THAT DIDN'T YIELD AS HIGH OF A RETURN IN REGARD TO HOW MUCH THEY COST TO MAKE. it has a nice scope but could not get the open sights to be accurate but then again i only shot about 30 pellets with open sights... im actually scared to buy another pellet gun seeing as my spring broke in less than 2,000 pellets. but my cousin has a stoeger x10 he put over 10,000 rounds through it and still shopts through a soda can without moving it, as it did brand new.
okay so this gun is junk. i loved it when i first bought it for $270. bought a grtIII trigger witch was amazing. the spring broke on the whisper after about 2,000 shots. JUNK. im keeping the trigger and im going to put it on a stoeger x10 witch is a much more reliable gun and about $100 cheaper made by berreta. but going to get my f.o.i.d and get a .22 bolt action. those are much funner to shoot than a pellet gun imo.

I love air rifle hunting SO MUCH more than rimfire or centerfire, i think it requires you to be a better shot, to be stealthy and to all round a better hunter. alot of people Think air rifles are toys and its stupid to have one. there just as strong as a 22 and even stronger there much qiueter so thats wh i don't like it when people say airnguns are for kids onl.
If you want to shoot with a really good spring air rifle you need to get a Wiehrauch HW77, HW80 or Air Arms TX200 or Pro Sport.. This Gamo is cheap-made junk that will not perform as well as you think. You'll spend $213 on this, get disappointed very quick, then have to spend more again for a more accurate, better quality rifle. Buy cheap=Buy Twice!
@milzeh Sorry to dissaoint you but GAMO own BSA...BSA a once great rifle maker made by the best air rifle making nation..the British....has now been reduced to nothing but cheap generic crap by the dirty Spaniards. I think Juan on the manufacturing line thinks leaving the steel on top of the R-10 near the dovetails with no bluing would go un-noticed...such is the mentality and low quality of Spanish gun making amateurs.

@milzeh ahh fair play to you mate. If you've got one of the Pre-GAMO models you've got an absolute anti-vermin tool on your hands. I had a BSA Lightning about 10 years back and it was an absolutely spot on rifle for hunting...then about 2 years back i had a BSA Super 10 and again..absolutely fantastic hunting PCP. I've only had Air Arms and Daystate since but thought i'd try the R-10....got a post GAMO takeover model and it was a shambles. Shame to see a great brand ruined.
@proudfurry1 No .....do yourself a big favour and save up...be patient and wait until you have enough for something by the best....British gunsmiths...If it has to be a springer or gas ram rifle then opt for the Air Arms TX200 mkIII (standard or HC), ProSport , or either the Theoben Evolution or SLR98...or if going for a PCP..again buy British and get the best...Air Arms S400,S410 or S510 SL Carbine....Daystates rifles or Theobens Rifles...or even buy German...any of Weihrauchs rifles.

I prefer lead for pests, pba gold for target. You will have to readjust the site
when you switch pellets. Youll even have to pick equal weights for air rifle competition. Anyhow, speed is not that important if your looking to pop pests.
Anything greater than 600 lead pellet can take out squirrels, rabbits and rats

@skootlad Well, Depends what Gamo has written for it, if it says "Up to" 1000 fps then its probably with PBA ammo, If it could shoot 1000 fps with lead, it should tell you that and something like "1200 fps with PBA"

@chevygearhead454 A coyote isn't classified as in the varmint class, OF COURSE you would have to use something else then an air rifle to get rid of them. An air rifle is for varmint like rabbits, snakes, mice, and birds.

Cheap plastic gun with a nasty trigger. if you want a break-barrel, spring powered air rifle that really knocks down small vermin like rabbits, rats, squirrels and certain birds humanely and is world-class accurate and powerful, with the best trigger in the business, it's got to be a Weihrauch HW80. That's a man's air rifle!

I would recommend the crosman G1 extreme. Is only $100 compared to the whisperer which is $250 and is the EXACT SAME velocity as the whisper (1200 FPS). The G1 has a 4x32 mm scope.

Lol I have a Gamo Big Cat 1200. It's really good for the price, and I would recommend it. Also, the ammo that he's using is Raptor Gamo pellets, made out of real gold. Pretty sick huh?

DON'T BUY THIS GUN!!! gamo guns are thought to be good because they are over advertised. Buy an RWS Diana which will last you three times as long. If they can pay for advertising they are obviously making money off customers. THINK ABOUT IT. HOW COULD THEY PAY TO ADVERTISE IF THEY WERE SELLING GUNS THAT DIDN'T YIELD AS HIGH OF A RETURN IN REGARD TO HOW MUCH THEY COST TO MAKE. RWS Diana for life. plus RWS provides a limited lifetime warranty for all of their guns.

it has a nice scope but could not get the open sights to be accurate but then again i only shot about 30 pellets with open sights... im actually scared to buy another pellet gun seeing as my spring broke in less than 2,000 pellets. but my cousin has a stoeger x10 he put over 10,000 rounds through it and still shopts through a soda can without moving it, as it did brand new.

okay so this gun is junk. i loved it when i first bought it for $270. bought a grtIII trigger witch was amazing. the spring broke on the whisper after about 2,000 shots. JUNK. im keeping the trigger and im going to put it on a stoeger x10 witch is a much more reliable gun and about $100 cheaper made by berreta. but going to get my f.o.i.d and get a .22 bolt action. those are much funner to shoot than a pellet gun imo.

Sitting in a treestand for 3 hours minimum is just not as fun as stalking a squirrel, rabbit or dove for 1 hour. I love air rifle hunting SO MUCH more than rimfire or centerfire, i think it requires you to be a better shot, to be stealthy and to all round a better hunter. alot of people Think air rifles are toys and its stupid to have one. there just as strong as a 22 and even stronger there much qiueter so thats wh i don't like it when people say airnguns are for kids onl.

If you want to shoot with a really good spring air rifle you need to get a Wiehrauch HW77, HW80 or Air Arms TX200 or Pro Sport.. This Gamo is cheap-made junk that will not perform as well as you think. You'll spend $213 on this, get disappointed very quick, then have to spend more again for a more accurate, better quality rifle. Buy cheap=Buy Twice!

@milzeh Sorry to dissaoint you but GAMO own BSA...BSA a once great rifle maker made by the best air rifle making nation..the British....has now been reduced to nothing but cheap generic crap by the dirty Spaniards. I think Juan on the manufacturing line thinks leaving the steel on top of the R-10 near the dovetails with no bluing would go un-noticed...such is the mentality and low quality of Spanish gun making amateurs.

@milzeh ahh fair play to you mate. If you've got one of the Pre-GAMO models you've got an absolute anti-vermin tool on your hands. I had a BSA Lightning about 10 years back and it was an absolutely spot on rifle for hunting...then about 2 years back i had a BSA Super 10 and again..absolutely fantastic hunting PCP. I've only had Air Arms and Daystate since but thought i'd try the R-10....got a post GAMO takeover model and it was a shambles. Shame to see a great brand ruined.

@proudfurry1 No .....do yourself a big favour and save up...be patient and wait until you have enough for something by the best....British gunsmiths...If it has to be a springer or gas ram rifle then opt for the Air Arms TX200 mkIII (standard or HC), ProSport , or either the Theoben Evolution or SLR98...or if going for a PCP..again buy British and get the best...Air Arms S400,S410 or S510 SL Carbine....Daystates rifles or Theobens Rifles...or even buy German...any of Weihrauchs rifles.

my gamo whisper shoots at 1000 fps with lead, 1200 with pba gold or allow
I prefer lead for pests, pba gold for target. You will have to readjust the site
when you switch pellets. Youll even have to pick equal weights for air rifle competition. Anyhow, speed is not that important if your looking to pop pests.
Anything greater than 600 lead pellet can take out squirrels, rabbits and rats
at 50-60ft (15 yards)

@skootlad Well, Depends what Gamo has written for it, if it says "Up to" 1000 fps then its probably with PBA ammo, If it could shoot 1000 fps with lead, it should tell you that and something like "1200 fps with PBA"

what a nice gun. How does it handle 10.5 grain lead pellets?
Its fast when u use alloy or nylon tip 4.5 grains, but not sure if its too accurate.
I get more accuracy with a slower 900fps but a heavy grain pellet.

Cheap plastic gun with a nasty trigger. if you want a break-barrel, spring powered air rifle that really knocks down small vermin like rabbits, rats, squirrels and certain birds humanely and is world-class accurate and powerful, with the best trigger in the business, it's got to be a Weihrauch HW80. That's a man's air rifle!
