Yes the US supported dictators during the cold war. Just as the Soviet Union was doing the same thing. It was a World War which lasted 45 years. But many of the countries you see today with dictators are there because they always had dictators in their history.

The US supported Pinochet and Saddam and others also. But if you really look at the whole picture of the governments in the world. The US has 300 million people, 45% of world military $ is from the US. So yes the US is very involved in the world. And it does make mistakes but I still think its intentions are best.

Lebanon is a Christian country. That is why it is peaceful with Israel. But it has a standing army of foreigners called Hezbollah in the south that create many problems to the countries democracy. Mauritania is not a democracy they just had a coup de etat. It is an Islamic Authority, under Sharia law.

Lebanon never declared war on Israel. Hezbollah declared war on Israel and the PLO declared war in 80s, not the Lebanese government. It is a law in Lebanon that Lebanon has to have a Christian President. It is about 50% Christian.
