@SEAWEEDRAVEN I really do not think that you would have been happy in the 1980s. Life had a different meaning from what you have translated. Girls were silly but they were not AT close to psycho-thrill killers. I am telling you, search around YT& find some vintage commercials of our time, even music, you will find that we LOVED that period good or bad. It's ancient ruins today. It is like, there will be no other time than that way of life. It was really fun & livelier. It was a different time
I can actually remember when this commercial was new. I was a little kid and I hated it even then. Plus, my Mom wouldn't buy me Jordache jeans because they were too expensive for just jeans. And that girl is an abysmal actress!!
@beekothefreako Yes, at that time the jeans were quite expensive, however, we ended up with a pair of Gloria (with the swan). I never read into any anorexic experience as many of these comments suggest. Gee so many complaints when the uploader meant for it to be fun and a blast from the past. It was to cheer us up & to make us smile over our youthful years. So far, there are folks who were born IN the 1990s who cannot grasp what things were about. Their reactions are violent & mean-spirited.
This is aimed at the girls with low self esteem. The basic message is: "Wear Jordache jeans and you'll be cool and hot like her mom." Either that or "You have low self esteem so we can relate to you. Buy our jeans!" They don't even show the god damn jeans in the commercial! It's just trying to be all subliminal.
@FlavorRed Not as bad as today. I'd take the 1980s OVER anything shown in this generation. Girls are much WORSE today with self-esteem issues. At least we did not worry about some crazy ding bringing a hatchet to school over envy problems. If you were grew up then, you'd know the difference. It had nothing to do with any of who was cool or who was not. It was a simple commercial designed to make you chuckle not to get analytical or angry. The girls of that era had fewer troubles. Believe me.
WOW this ad would not be shown to kids today..with everybody worried about anorexia, they show a 100 pound girl and show her with mean friends who say shes overweight. I want to buy jordache jeans!!!
Haha. Nice burn! I dont hate her mom, shes supposed to be hot. But I do hate her daughter, the big pile of mindless bimbo afterbirth. Thanks for the comment!
All those Jordache commercials under that campaign ad are so odd...this one just seems the most bizarre, though. Like who the hell sits around being jealous because their mother is prettier than them? Oh, and the the bitch that made her snide comment "Kinda like YOU" should have been punched!
@SaturdayMorningAlive They ALL sounded that way, but many of those types were much sweeter than today's chicks. If you were born between late 60s or early 70s, you would have thought nothing of this AD b/c it was just a cutesy attitude of that time. It was never meant to oust another. The designer of the jeans had a view of romanticism& in those days moms were hot & not fat or weird. It really wasn't designed for violence. That is why I like those days, folks weren't so confused or violent.
@hordeofdemons No, no..you've missed the whole point. Things during those days were "acted out" to show girls doing everyday things like daydreaming while they were wearing their Jordache Jeans. In those days, this image & conversation was not bizarre at all. It was just what it was & our generation loved it. Girls were truly girls. it wasn't until the 90s that girls watched too much of that WWF stuff& femininity was completely lost. Even Gloria Steinum isn't as butch as fems are today.
@SaturdayMorningAlive No, it was exactly what it meant. Fun. Not BORING like today where everyone is blonde and trashy. Nope, I'd rather have this time of life than now. It wasn't even about self indulgence or fixation over one's self. Every girl wanted to be pretty b/c you really had to LIVE during that time to understand the gist. It was a cute homage to mom to get her a pair of jeans&yet the same time, saying that mom is hot & they meant it. It really was a different style of thinking & humor
@hordeofdemons Well, the producers knew that it was more tongue-in-cheek than anything. Think about it. This is how French women speak& French girls could pull this little discussion off without sounding like an American snot. You have to remember, the 80s were pure entertainment &fun& the commercial was truly speaking an attempt of romanticism &drama. This ad alone sent tons of girls for a pair. It was just that way. She was suppose to look like Molly Ringwald & that really was how light it was

Yea you're right. That chick reminds me of Blair from the Facts of life. She seems like a real bitch.

what is the meaning of this? What does this have to do with jeans?

Totally agree with you there, its a nonsensical commercial for sure. Like I said in my article about this commercial, its just retarded...
