  • Great band. Luv Howard's comedy clown/UFO wig

  • I am so glad these live vids are still up. Too bad I can't watch the crazy Cut Out Shapes vid.

  • @BootyFister Actually, the Cut-Out Shapes video is back up now.

  • nice chaos into order segue.

OGWT really showed you the real band, no bluster, no makeup, no marketing. If you played well here you played well period.

  • Nothing new since 82. You took the words out of my mouth.

  • Who's the guy on drums? Doesn't look like Doyle or Jackson

  • @hugegadjit

There's another version of this video with an introduction from the host, and the drummer is Paul Spencer, who played with Magazine as Martin Jackson's replacement for a short time in 1978 before he himself was replaced by John Doyle.

  • That's fantastic.

  • Howard Devoto and Klaus Nomi, separated at birth?

  • I like your nerve. I like what you do.

  • Que delirioo!!!!!! Que temazo por favor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Esta banda no tiene el reconocimiento que se merece es una lastima

  • this is an amazing song. who said punk could not live in peace with progressive?

  • Has anbody got Scree? it's the rareities and B sides, great stuff

  • Brilliant. Absolutely bloody brilliant. Howard De Voto = Pure Genius.

  • forum nxt week ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Well they've put a few OGWT DVD's out but they are really random. However I would buy one if they put this on it. In Roxy Music Eno played the part of mad scientist and looked th epart, here Formula's herky jerky movements at tge kyboards defintely remind me of Dr Frankenstein in his laboratory!

  • I pretty much watch and/or listen to this everyday. This version just kicks ass. I thought the Peel Session was tight. This stomps.

  • Have to agree even though it is obviously the same recording the crashing guitar and fazing sound is much better they must have cleaned up the sound for the other version or perhaps its just mono

  • This kicks ass.

  • Did you know:

Howard was actually the founder of a sexual deviants society at his college?

  • Wow. I would love to have a high quality version of this on DVD or something. This is just genius.

  • And... you shag your missis missionary only?

  • Quality!

  • Love McGs guitar playing , but also Adamsons bass, especially on this ....

  • Devoto thinks hes Brian Eno in this vid -

  • There always was a Roxy Music element to Magazine.

  • Indeed there was a Roxy element to Magazine, probably why i like both bands and Eno !

  • i like

  • Howard Devoto come back, please

  • Playing two gigs manchester and London next year. Tickets on sale now.

  • Just a heads up, they will be playing an extra night in London now, Thurs 12 feb. As for me, Friday 13th will be my lucky night - because I'm going to that gig.

  • Howard Devito? That's his name? My God!! I think I will live a little longer because of the Magazine!!

  • Fucking brilliant whoever posted this..I saw these in 1978, they were mesmerising..Howard Devoto truly amazing and charismatic...Produced by John Leckie, you can hear the early Radiohead and MUSE influence

  • God, that takes me back... what a wonderful group.

  • Fantastic!

the guitar reminds me of Mark F from Part 1!

    Anyone remember them?

  • Saw them in Holland in early 1980 at "de Effenaar" in Eindhoven. Mesmerizing show. McGeogh was brilliant, Adamson awesome. Howard D. wearing his bomber jacket. Perfection!

  • just awesome - RIP John McGeogh

  • Devøtø wøs definitivø brilliantinø

  • Wow would love to get my hands on this whole set fro m the Old Grey Whistle test. They started playing some of the shows on VH1 Classic but you only see like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Tom Petty!!!!

  • Pity this wasn't better quality but thanks for uploading - Great band - Immense guitar from McGeoch

  • Would blow most bands of today to pieces ......

  • Got all of their albums, and to be honest i'm quite chuffed they packed it in, rather than go commercial.

  • Saw them in 1979 and they were really good.

But so loud I was deaf for 48 hours...

I think it was Barry Adamsons 1000W bass stack.

  • Simply ... one of the greatest bands ... EVAAAAHHHH!

  • I thought this song was called "Real Life"? They played it on Peel Sessions.

  • The Album's called real life-the track's definitive gaze-saw them in 79- so under-rated absolute brilliance

  • exactly my sentiments,,i was probably at the same gig! I still rate them as my favourite ever band.

  • Thanks for uploading. This is magnificent.

  • I was a huge Magazine/Devoto remember seeing them play at the Russell Club ..happy memories of being 17 and growing up nr Manchester...

  • bought real life in littlewoods in chapel market for two quid. this was one of many top tracks. what a result. as good today as then

  • Wow - not seen this since it was on TV originally. One of the best bands ever showing how it's really done. Nice to know someone out there cares!

  • magnificence

  • Sheer brilliance. Thanks for posting this rare footage, hope it stays up this time

  • One of the greatest experimental punk/new wave bands to exist.

  • I am soooo very happy to see this! THank yoU for posting it. What fun. Grew up loving these guys and still do.

  • Very brave for Devoto to leave the Buzzcocks for this , turned out well for both bands, Devoto's one leg dance never caught on!

  • Not much needs to be said really, doesn't get much better. McGeoch's guitar - check when he uses the effects pedal - pure coolness. Formula even bothers to style his hair like Brian Eno. Way ahead of its time. You are not worthy.

  • Formula? Or Devoto?

  • magazine
