  • Nice video.....Not sure I'll ever push those speeds but nice to know I can. Would be nice to see the RPMs at those speeds. RPMs let me know how hard the engine is working...but at least I know now the rpms will be low at normal freeway speed.

  • The 1200GS rider was doing this all with one hand..... lol... someone had to hold that camera up the whole time. (wink)

  • Are you 2up, or is that a large camera. At 3;30 it clearly shows you but cant make out if you are alone. Oh, and which do you think is better for camping 2up and commuting to work. A f800gs or a r1200gs. Cant make my mind up. I want to get a secondhand one but cant make my mind up as to which.

  • @MageoftheMoon Single rider on each bike. For weekend rides and commutes to work, the 800GS is better IMO. But, 2 person riding the1200 is far better. Also, stock 800 seat very uncomfortable after 100+miles.

  • PS to all.

I was not the rider on the 1200! Several comments have been directed at me.

  • @MageoftheMoon The 1200 is more massive but also more sovereign. And it has more punch. The 800 is more easy off road, but theres always the question if you will use also the tires for this. The 1200 uses Kardan and you need no more to give attention for a chain.

  • 800's engine is not Rotax..Not easily, but I kill the 1200s on the road.I would like to ride my 800 with a 19 or even 17 inch front tire..Then overtaking 1200s would be piece of cake I suppose..Of course there are times that I beg for a 1200 for some more ass comfort and less back pain..hello all from Turkey

  • That's a 2 beer video worth watching while the ol lady cooks dinner. I didn't realize the 800 had a set of balls like that. Good video... good riders !

  • @thealaskan69

We only had 4 before we rode haha. JUST KIDDING!

  • I don't know what video everyone is commenting on, but what I see here is a 1200 having to slow down to a crawl in the turns so he doesn't run over the 800! Everyone is a speed demon in a straight line...

  • @muzikfan001

It's easy to ride 2nd and "push" the lead rider. Lead rider must judge entry speed into turn, or both may crash.

That being said, 1200 rider is much better than he is given credit for here. There was always

a clear view when centerline was crossed. I prefer to train myself to stay within the lane. No big deal either way.

  • I'm with you mostly on pushing the lead rider and like you very much develop the flow and technique to stay within my own lane. I'm not with you in justifying going over in anything but an emergency or the fact that there was always a clear view in this vid, which there plainly wasn't. Lack of ability and pride will end you. Nice ride though and a beautiful road.

  • @Ciqir Just to clarify, I was not the rider on the 1200.

  • Im not sure what some comments will say, but its not a mystery - the 1200 adventure is of course in no way faster than a 800GS... but the usual 1200GS is it. with 2 persons and baggage the 800GS loses more power and speed than the both types of 1200GS. And of course drive all this GS easily a top-speed of +200km/h Is this really "special"???

  • no way in hell a KLR could have kept up with you.

  • @zenrhythman

Yeah I know, I had two '08's and while good bang for buck, not in same league.

  • wooooeeee... fast ride.. I have a gs 800. and boy that thing takes off from a stand still I have taken it up to 215 KM/H. . I would guess the gs 1200 has more top end speed but not much... and the gs 800 is so fast if not faster I would say. BMW really made a difference from the previous dakar.. ( MY last Bike. ) but it would not go faster than 165 KMH. even do i changed both sprokets... Kind of wondering what that ducatti 1200 can do...

  • bugs teratory..???

  • Great ride, really great. I have a boxer too . If you have continenatals on your adventure, you have no chance. stick with Michelin, andkeep the throttle all the way open next time, and that 800 will be nowhere in sight . keep up the good work.

  • @nevatutube

1200 had Metzeler Tourance, 800 has Battlewings. Dead stop drag race nearly identical. Through the twisties, 800 has slight advantage.

  • My dad owns a BMW R1200GS and he's gone to about 180km/hr, i nearly fly off the back like a rag doll so i wouldn't even imagine going faster than that!!

Although they're pretty good bikes, i would never tell my dad that cause he always takes the shit outta my little Kawasaki GPX 250.........

But yeah they're a really good bike and they handle pretty good aswell, never been off road with the 1200GS but if anyone has i would like to know how they handle?

  • I have had a 1200GS (now a 1200 MegaMoto), I can tell you that the 800GS is a very fast and fun ride and I am seriously thinking of buying the 800 over another 1200GS...Don't get me wrong, the 1200 is probably one of the best all around bikes available, but man that 800 is so damn light and flickable~!

  • My dad took me to just over 135 on his R1200 RT and I almost kacked my pants. I can't imagine what its like to do 200 odd on one of those fancy super bikes.

  • what they didn't how you was the 200+lbs of luggage and camping equipment the r12gs was carrying.

    ;-)

  • maybe 80 lbs. on 1200, 800 also had camping gear and 800 rider is 50 lbs. heavier

  • nice! where is this?

  • That was awesome! Killer road too!

That 800 really has some take-off power.

Was I seeing the speeds correctly? up to 125mph in a few spots?

  • yes 129 mph

  • @cheezwhiz1234

    it sounds better 208km/h ;)

  • @rots4me If the speedometer is correct, I saw 120 mph @ 4:18

  • nice ride and nice places

  • That bike is almost upright around most of the corners he is cutting there. I have no idea what obsession drives people to ride on the wrong side of the road when they encounter even a small corner. Even having TKC-80s fitted does not warrant meandering all over the road like that. (True, looks like the odds of a car coming around one of those corners undetected is slim but I wouldnt bank on it).

  • I agree, the f800 was really better in corners here. nice bikes anyway.

  • Ow, today I go to a BMW dealer and drive 1200 and 800, realy!!! The 1200 gs is the best on corners, if the guy of 1200 is alone in this bike have no chance to 800. The center of gravitty 1200 is very low, If the 1200gs ride changing your boddy position is sure, he win this battle...

This 800 engine is incredible, I realy say, BMW receive a wrong data by ROTAX about power, is more than 85hp...

  • Grammar?

  • He no need grammar

  • Crazy ride! I have to say I'm impressed by the 800's ability on the road. Expect it to be great on the trail, but wow!

  • what a vibration this 2 cyl has!!! :(

  • Camera was velcro'd to handlebar, driver says bike is smooth.
