This part is NOT TRUE. Winton Dean was James Dean's real father just look at pictures of the two of them and you'll see. Even James Dean's friend called out this movie in his biography saying that most of this movie was myth this part especially. I think James Franco was amazing i just dont feel this movie portrayed who James Dean was and it focused on his relationship with his father which is why they said he wasnt his real dad so it would make more sense why he acted like that towards his son

Actually, after Jimmy died, long after, his school teacher Adeline Nall took a biographer to see Winton Dean. He was in a nursing home; he admitted that he could have done better with Jimmy, but that was all. I never heard ANYTHING about Jimmy NOT being his natural son... and I've read a lot of James Dean biographies. I think Jimmy's father was just a cold man. SO sad for poor Jimmy.

@susannebass I agree. It bothered me as to why his father was treating him so bad, especially after James mother died. I thought his father was just a cold hearted asshole who just didn't care... probably about anything, some men are like that! Marilyn Monroe's father didn't....

Glad the father finally told the truth why he was acting that way, it was the best knowing they both can go on with their lives & not looking back to those last horrible years of their father/son relationship!
