In the 70's my parents had one of those as a pet. They lived in a small community, away from the city, (mind that they live in Brazil, where jaguarundis are very common) and raised the cat unleashed and uncaged. He just stayed around the house and played on the trees with a little capuchin monkey my parents also had. I only know them by pictures, since both animals died before I was born. It was a really beautiful animal.
@kobidobidog First of all he is a she and she loves her enclosure and lives with her sister. She is not happy when we clean the enclosure and that is the reason for all the chatter from her.
@catmandudu Thank you for the clarification . The expression, and chattering was expressing discontent, but I had no idea is was because the enclosure was being cleaned out.
@catmandudu I used to think Jaguars and Jaguarrundis were the same animal just in a different shape and size but then I hear the chattering and now I know they are nothing alike :) by the way she's adorable. Nature is a beautiful thing. but stupid people are too lazy to even grow natures habitat back they just leave the construction they caused
no animal in the world is happy behind bars. please do never forget that!
it doesnt mean that you dont give her/them a better life than before (smaller cage or bad people) but catching wild animals for personal interests is never a good thing. its seems like i am the moralic one here, but i can live with that xD
when i first saw this cat on the internet my initial reaction was, "What the hell is that?" it barely looks like a cat lol. but the more i saw it the more that i became fascinated with this beautiful, obscure cat. Although it does look like a cross between a beaver and a cat lol
aww how cute, too bad it's a wild animal. But does it do the clicking noise to communicate to other jaguarundi's, warn, or just a sign that s/he's ticked off.
it goes for half million due to its extinction and you cant own one unless you have a certified zoo by state law. that thing will rip your face off : ]
@Danny7930 Jaguarundis are not extinct. They still roam the Texas bush;Florida too! I'm not asking the state for shit! And if you raise them before their eyes open- they are as tame as your average pussy... And yes, they do resemble more weasel than cat!!!

Why do they cackle like that? My house cat does that when she sees birds but what's the point?
Precious animal by the way. Would rather see them being saved then being killed or wounded by careless drivers.

Aww, so chirpy! And endearing in that "I'm ready, willing and able to eat your face off'" way that wild cats typically have.
