jatt is a caste, and being muslim is the religon. Heer was a muslim jatti from punjab. I'm also jatt but muslim, although there are alot of sikh and muslim jatts in punjab both in india and pakistan. The tomb of both heer ranjha and sohni mahiwal are in pakistan, beautiful places you should go visit some time :-)

There is also a Jatt clan know as "Heer/Hir" but the Heer in this story in actual a Sial. They were both Muslim as were Mirza Sahiba and Sassi Punnu. Heer Ranjha came from the District called Sargodha now in West Punjab, in between Jhelum and Lahore

thanks to some guys like harbhajan mann, punjabi cinema has revived itself and has started reflecting the true culture of the whole punjab region (no countries involved).... i think punjabi cinema is much more decent than the bollywood of today and has remained true to its culture, whereas bollywood is trying so hard to become westernised that it makes hollywood look like an indian film industry....... it's better when the actress is actually wearing clothes, as seen in this film lol
so being a punjabi at least on my own behalf i am very thankful to harbhajhan that he is trying to keep the punjabi culture alive and in this movies he successfully tried to keep the punjabi folk alive.
hey guys i am from across the border but i am punjabi and believe there is no difference in punjabi culture of both sides. it just make me feel home when i watch his movies and its true that i never saw any punjabi movie from across the border before his movies. he actually introduced atleast me to the punjab of urs and it is he who made movies and made me realize that actually the culture and rituals and the customs are almost same on both sides except the religion.
even the built of houses and the love meters of close ones are same even the mothers and sisters and the way they love their sons and brothers are of the same way. gathering on dinner making roties on tandoories and above all lassi is the same.
punjabi movies on both sides of the borders are not coming out. Setting, costumes, dialogues, photography, music are good. Harbhajan need to improve some difficult expressions. Hilasakte the climax scene after seeing Heer dead but he failed. Overall good movie.

Harbhajan bhaji has put a lot of effort into making the look and feel of this movie as authentic and cinematically beautiful as possible, we should value that he has brought the legendary story of Heer Ranjha to today's younger Punjabi audience in such a magnificent production, instead of mindlessly chatting about his moustache (which is what Ranjha had according to Waris Shah's text and what countless artworks depict I might add).
Friends!!! we all should support Punjabi cinema else Bollywood would take over the Punjabi subjects. All Bollywood films are based on Punjabi subjects today!! poor sense of art, literature, direction, script writing, direction and presentation.......they have destroyed and absolutely killed the beautiful love story.
it is tragic that despite being so close to the land and soil they have such poor idea about the subject. priya rajvansh and rajkumar in old heer ranjha is something one should see.......absolutely gorgeous.
Finally, bollywood has actually done research for this latest version of heer ranjha!! looks good...seems to have taken a lot of inspiration from the 1970's pakistani version which was a classic so no harm done i guess.
AGREE! punjabi film makers are more focusing on overseas markets such as UK, US and Canada and they are aware of the fact that NRIs are more interested in cultural movies which they can enjoy with their entire family. it kinda makes sense tho like if sumbody has to see a westernized movie, he would simply jus watch wester movie instead wasting his time watching some " trying to be westernised" movie.
gr8 stuff; this movie has been made many times... but i personally like the original Punjabi one that was released in Pakistan back in 1970...the film and music both were excellent

1) It anybody's films are good, I will say good about them. If they are bad, I would obviously say bad. This is called being unbiased.
2)Punjabi films normally lack artistic value. Box office numbers do not constitute the "hit"definition of a film.
3) I admire great films and I would recommend if you would watch them:
1. Chann Pardesi (Punjabi film)
2. Ijazat (1987, Sampuran Singh Kalra, Punjabi)
3. Mandi (1982, Shyam Benegal)
4. Haasil (2003, Tigmanshu Dhulia)

thanks to some guys like harbhajan mann, punjabi cinema has revived itself and has started reflecting the true culture of the whole punjab region (no countries involved).... i think punjabi cinema is much more decent than the bollywood of today and has remained true to its culture, whereas bollywood is trying so hard to become westernised that it makes hollywood look like an indian film industry....... it's better when the actress is actually wearing clothes, as seen in this film lol

hey guys i am from across the border but i am punjabi and believe there is no difference in punjabi culture of both sides. it just make me feel home when i watch his movies and its true that i never saw any punjabi movie from across the border before his movies. he actually introduced atleast me to the punjab of urs and it is he who made movies and made me realize that actually the culture and rituals and the customs are almost same on both sides except the religion.

punjabi movies on both sides of the borders are not coming out. We need good punjabi movies, lollywood da vi bhatha beth gaya, sadey wal taan sarey umrika, canada daud gaey(including myself, lol). kuch karo yaar, inney punjabi duniya wich teh sada culture mar riya. Setting, costumes, dialogues, photography, music are good. Harbhajan need to improve some difficult expressions. Hilasakte the climax scene after seeing Heer dead but he failed. Overall good movie.

Harbhajan bhaji has put a lot of effort into making the look and feel of this movie as authentic and cinematically beautiful as possible, we should value that he has brought the legendary story of Heer Ranjha to today's younger Punjabi audience in such a magnificent production, instead of mindlessly chatting about his moustache (which is what Ranjha had according to Waris Shah's text and what countless artworks depict I might add).

good costumes......which is irrelevant to the concept of heer ranjha.
poor sense of art, literature, direction, script writing, direction and presentation.......they have destroyed and absolutely killed the beautiful love story.
it is tragic that despite being so close to the land and soil they have such poor idea about the subject. priya rajvansh and rajkumar in old heer ranjha is something one should see.......absolutely gorgeous.

AGREE! punjabi film makers are more focusing on overseas markets such as UK, US and Canada and they are aware of the fact that NRIs are more interested in cultural movies which they can enjoy with their entire family. it kinda makes sense tho like if sumbody has to see a westernized movie, he would simply jus watch wester movie instead wasting his time watching some " trying to be westernised" movie.
